The Forest God's Husband (Yaoi)

Raewyn had a simple life acting as a hunter for his village, and sometimes escort for merchants traveling through the forest by his village. However when a drought strikes and most of the women in the village are struck with an unknown sickness, in their desperation the village offers him up as a "husband for the god of the forest in hopes that he will end the famine and the sickness. What will happen to him once he is left in the forest for the god.

Personality: For the most part Raewyn is a quiet and stoic man, going through his daily life without any complaint however, he does harbor some bitterness towards the people of the village continuously leaving everything to him since he is one of the best hunters of the village. Despite that he does love his people and is willing to do whatever he must to save them.
Background: Raewyn surprisingly was not born in the village, they found him half dead near the outskirts and took him. The lead hunter at the time raising him as his own son. And with the hunter dying a few years back Raewyn took his place.

Personality:Outwardly Saru is very apathetic and playful towards humans and likes to play tricks on them for amusement: If a hunter couldn't get his kill cause a breeze pushed the arrow a different direction, it was Saru. However once passed the facade, its plain to see he loves all the creatures who use his forest, even the humans. He's really calm, protective but easy to anger.
Background: Sarutahiko has been protecting the forest for thousands of years even before the humans came to his land, but it wasn't until the humans came that he became so strong.

It was nearing evening while Raewyn sat in the village head's house, finishing up the preparations for today. Today he would be sent into the woods by the village as an offering the God of the forest. He had a hard time sitting still as he was being fussed over by the elderly ladies of the village, the only ones who had been spared the sickness, they quietly chattered to each other as they braided his long hair and put jewelry on him.

Frankly Raewyn didn't think the God would care but it made the ladies feel better about themselves and took their minds off of what was going on, so he let them do it. He was glad at least they hadn't tried painting his face or anything. '

"There...we're done, oh my he looks so handsome doesn't he?" The elderly ladies said examining him.

Raewyn got to his feet and stretched saying a quiet thanks to the ladies. What they had dressed him in was traditional wedding attire for the men of the village but, they had added more of a beauty to it since he was to be the "husband" of a God.

He stepped out of the tent and the men of the village turned to look at him, Raewyn nodded at them to let them know he was ready and allowed himself to be led into the woods. They had formed a group around in him on the off chance that he might try to escape. Soon they reached what they considered the altar of the God.

Without uttering a word Raewyn allowed the men of the village to bind his hands and feet, setting him in a sitting position on the altar. The men of village murmured their thanks to him, and their prayers then walked away. He watched them go and once they were out of sight let out a quiet breath turning his gaze skyward to watch the setting sun and await his fate.

Saru was laying beside a river on his side. He used his paw like hand to play with the water as it went by him. Anyone witnessing would think he looked depressed, and he was. He let out a grumble that sounded like a bears and rolled onto his back and closed his eyes. It wasn't until he could hear the birds talking about a human waiting at Saru's shrine that Saru opened his eyes and sat up. "a human...?" he asked himself then stood up and started to head over to his shrine. He didn't feel like seeing anyone today but he figured he should at least see what the human was doing. Saru kept walking until he could see the man there sitting with himself all bound up. He looked around to see if it was a trap then proceeded out of the forest and on to the grounds of the shrine with caution. Once he was in full view he tilted his head to the side, "Human...shouldn't you be in your village? That doesn't look like a good hunting tactic." he said teasing him in the last part. Saru stepped towards him slowly and saw how he was dressed and done up. "A bride?" he asked.

"I prefer the word groom but,yes" Raewyn said quietly, instead of averting his eyes like the villagers told him to he looked at the God straight on.

So.....this was the God of the forest, Raewyn had felt his presence many times when he had hunted but had never laid eyes on the man himself. It was strange he expected the God to seem more imposing or dangerous but, as he looked at him he couldn't help but almost feel a sense of safety from the God.

"On the behalf of my village I was sent to you in hopes that you could end the famine and sickness that has been plaguing my people. I am yours to do with whatever you wish" Raewyn spoke inclining his head in a sort of bow.

Saru watched him carefully, "your that hunter..." he said, "You don't fear me?" he asked taking note of how Raewyn wasn't looking away. He stepped closer almost ignoring what the man was saying, "do you like this forest?" he asked looking away and walking behind him. He waited for a minute before pulling the binds on his ankles off with a claw. "your not scared of how i look?" he asked and picked him up bridal style and started to carry him into the woods. As he walked through the woods branches moved out of the way for him and the birds fallowed him. Saru was walking up the mountain a ways. "none of them in the village knows where i sleep and i'd like it to stay that way so im afraid once we get there...you cant go back." he told him flatly, " you understand, right?" he asked to confirm.

Raewyn let out a startled noise when he was picked up like he weighed nothing, instinctively grabbing onto whatever he could to get his bearings. Which in this case was the God's neck.

"Why would I fear you? You've never harmed me when I was in your domain even when I was potentially trespassing" He told him.

As for not coming back to the village Raewyn was torn, he wasn't born in the village and for the most part even though he was lead hunter he had a feeling he would never be part of it. But at the same time he felt responsible to them since they took in a half dead kid they barely knew.

"And what will happen to the village?" He asked quietly.

"Usually people fear their gods, no one from the village 'likes' me they only fear me." he explained, "My job is to protect the forest and all the things in it, your job as part of the forest is to kill and eat until you are killed and eaten, you were merely doing your job," he told him. Saru moved Raewyn so that he was holding him in one arm and used the other arm to climb up a small cliff on the side of the mountain. Once on the level ground again all that was there was a cave, a pond, and an old little house that used to be a shrine. "this is your home now, its not a village house but it has a great view," he said setting him down and pulling off the rest of the binds. "It's not the villages vault..." he said turning away and opening a box that was on the deck of the house and rummaging through it. When he stopped he had a bottle of wine and two chipped cups that didn't match. Saru handed the items over to the hunter and sat on the deck.
