xxx Kobe let out a long, drawn-out sigh before bringing the end of a newly lit cigarette to his lips and deeply inhaling. He had so much on his mind that the voices of his friends weren't even reaching his ears. It wasn't until he felt a kick at his leg he finally looked up at the people around him, being sure to shoot a glare at the friend that kicked him. He seemed unphased though as he continued to talk about whatever he had to get Kobe's attention over. "You seem out of it. You're usually the most hype on the days of parties." He commented before inhaling a bit from a cigarette of his own. Kobe looked off once more. He had been acting a little less excited than he normally would on any other day like today. He had still lacked to mention to the others that he had invited someone. Especially seeing how the said person was bound to stick out like a sore thumb. Speaking of that person, he wondered how much negativity he must have received from such a place already. It was possible he didn't stick out so much when wearing the same clothing as the rest of the student body but he did have a different look to him. It wasn't like Kobe really cared though, he was still just as irritated with the kid as he was when he left the room this morning.

Kobe's day though was pretty good for the first day that is. Though due to his quite negative reputation, a few of his new teachers for this year seemed a little anxious about having him in their class. It wasn't like they'd make a vocal complaint seeing as to how he was the son of their bosses. Oh, how Kobe loved to play that card. After his classes, he met with a group of friends outside of the school, near the old field house. Since it wasn't really used that often, Kobe and his friends found it to be a nice place to camp out in the evening to hang out ever since their freshman year. "Nah, I'm still excited. The first party of the year is always the best." He said in response to his friends finally as he allowed a grin to creep on his lips. No need to worry about how awkward it may be with the kid there, he'd have to fend for himself.

Since it was getting a tad bit later in the afternoon, Kobe decided to take his leave so he would have some time to get ready for the party. After leaving he made his way to the dorm room and was pretty reluctant to enter, not feeling like having to face air that would most likely become fraught. He knew that Berlin would be in there seeing he most likely had no one to hang with and nowhere to go. Except for the library that is. Either way, Kobe bit the bullet and opened the door to the room. He was only greeted with silence. It wasn't until he entered the room that he noticed Berlin resting on his bed. From the look of it, it seemed as though he fell asleep while studying. As mad as he was at Berlin, he had to admit that the sight of him with a highlighter in hand was both funny and sorta cute. He approached the sleeping boy before leaning over him, wondering if he was actually sleeping or just trying to pretend to be so he could avoid Kobe. Though Kobe came to the conclusion that he was actually sleeping. Now that he had a closer look at the boy's face and features...he really didn't look all that bad. He might have even been popular if he didn't have the background he did. Quite a shame he thought as he lifted a hand and used his fingers to push the boy's hair out of his face. He did so in a gentle motion in an attempt not to wake the boy. Now he was able to see the boy's face even better, though, he wasn't quite sure why he wanted to. He didn't like the boy at all but he couldn't help just want to stand here and watch the boys peaceful sleeping face. "You're really annoying, you know that?" He asked knowing he wasnt gonna be heard. "My parents thinking someone like you will make me some 'changed-for-the-better' guy is nothing more than a joke." He said this time in a more irritated tone before leaning back and sighing. He needed to go get ready. He gathered the clothes he was gonna wear to the party and placed them on his bed. His plan was to take a quick shower and get ready for the party. Noting to himself that he needed to wake up Berlin after he got out of the shower so he could get ready too. As he mapped out the plan in his head, he proceeded to dig out all his bathroom supplies from his bags and brought them into the bathroom with him. He didn't even have to open the bottles to get a familiar whiff of the high-end soap and shampoo he had. He placed all his things around the bathroom before finally making his way into the shower.

Berlin’s mind was flickering in and out of a dream, uninterrupted by the quiet all around him. It wasn’t until he heard the shower turn on in the bathroom that his eyes fluttered open– at first he was confused about where he was, what time it was, and why he was there. Then it all trickled back in: his arrival to the school, his roommate, his first day. His brain mistook this bed for his own back home at first, it would take some time before he could get used to sleeping in this room without feeling away from home. He cleared his throat, noticing how he had barely spoken a word since this morning given that he was too shy to actually have a conversation with anyone between his classes. The boy patted his pockets to locate his phone and looked at the time, letting out an annoyed grunt at the precious half hour he had wasted napping instead of reading. He had planned to get through at least another chapter before having to get ready to meet people tonight. A yawn filled him. The room was now almost dark despite the curtains being open.

Berlin stood up from the bed and stretched his back and arms, hearing his joints crack a couple of times behind him. He moved to the light switch between his and Kobe’s bed and flicked it on, regretting it instantly with the aching the sudden light caused his eyeballs. When he was able to see comfortably again he looked around the room, pausing on Kobe’s side and eyeing the open suitcase with curiosity. Just looking at his side retrieved the scent of the cigarette-tinted hands. Berlin shoved away the thought, moving towards his suitcase to being unpacking some of his things and decide on what to wear for tonight. He hated the side of him that was being awakened by his roommate: the fact that Kobe was a handsome dude didn’t mean that he wasn’t an a*****e. Berlin knew in the back of his head that the fact that he was an a*****e was probably part of the reason he was inexplicably inclined towards him. All his life he had prided himself for being a practical thinker, a being of reason… but there were times like this that confronted him.

This wasn’t the first time it had happened. Just last year during a trip with his debate team he had been in this state of mind regarding a guy from his school’s opposing team. He was supposed to have had his head in the game, memorizing facts and evidence to back up their side of the argument. However, his thoughts had been elsewhere. His contender was a sound debater who effortlessly strung together arguments and counterarguments in seconds, keeping the rivalry alive even behind the scenes. During that trip Berlin had to endure more than one jab from this guy every time they crossed paths– he had it out for him and Berlin couldn’t help but feed off of this. He responded accordingly and retorted every single time, but each encounter left him with a sticky-sweet feeling in his gut that he wasn’t sure how to process. It wasn’t until the trip was over and his team had landed second place in the competition that he realized what was happening. The way his eye fixated on the contender’s features, memorizing the curve of his cheekbone, counting the freckles on his nose, all while he was supposed to be listening to weaknesses in his speech. His thinking ability had been hijacked by a pretty face and he had been weak enough to let it happen. He felt cheated.

Underneath a pair of pants in his suitcase the boy found his earphones, which he had mindlessly thrown into his belongings this morning. Berlin plugged them into his phone to play a song and tucked the device in his back pocket, plugging his ears with the music to keep him company as he unpacked. He had picked his favorite song by Phoenix, something nice and easy that he could mentally sing along to during the mindless task at hand. It wasn’t all that hard thanks to the time he had taken to secure everything in place with the suitcase’s straps so that his things wouldn’t tumble everywhere during the move. It was a matter of transferring the clothes as neatly as possible and stacking them in the closet. Suitcase to shelf.

xxx Kobe didn't waste a single second before stripping down and jumping straight into the shower. The instant rush of hot water on his bare body caused goose bumps to cover his arms. After such a long day, the feeling was more enjoyable than ever. He closed his eyes and leaned his head back, allowing his hair to become drenched. He let his mind trail off in thought about what he may do at the party. Consuming a lot of alcohol was definitely on the list, how else was he supposed to get the little annoyance out of his head if not out of his room. Then his thoughts were shifted onto the pestering boy that was, to his knowledge, sleeping in the room right now. Bringing him was gonna be a pain, maybe he would be able to get the kid drunk and set him off on his on. Hey, maybe he wouldn't be such a stick in the mud then. And maybe he'd even doing something embarrassing that Kobe could hold against him when the timing called for. Well that was the point of inviting him anyways.

Kobe proceeded with his shower by washing his straight, pitch black hair. HIs mind still running on the topic of possible things that could happen at the party. He was hoping maybe he could find some cute girls to accompany him. That would also be a good way to get his mind free. He smirked at the thought as it uplifted his mood. It was pretty common for him to mess around with girls, not so much sexually though. He would just find himself in the habit of stringing along girls. Making them feel special, getting their hopes up before completely cutting them off. So it was inferable Kobe was no near a good guy in that sense. He couldn't recall the last time he had been in a relationship or even just felt a general interest in someone else. He didn't expect that to change anytime soon, especially seeing how he had no desire to change it. He found things fine just the way they were.

Kobe finished washing his hair and his body before hopping out of the shower. He dried himself off quickly before sliding on a pair of boxer-briefs and a black pair of skinny jeans. He placed his towel around his neck before exiting the bathroom. The first the thing that caught his eye when stepping in the room was the lack of a body in Berlin's bed. He paused for a moment before seeing his roommate unpacking. Even though he was relieved he didn't have to go through the awkwardness of waking his up, he huffed with a tone that was nonetheless annoyed. Not bothering to speak a word to him, He made his way to his bed and fished out a white graphic tee from his bag and put it on. He picked up his phone which was idle on his bed and checked the time and his messages. Pursuing his lips in thought, he turned slightly to look at the other through the corner of his eye before finally deciding to speak, "What are you gonna wear?" He said in a monotone voice. Sure it seemed pretty random, but it was something to break the silence. Plus the question was gonna have to emerge anyways seeing how Kobe eyed the clothes that the boy had already pulled out in the process of unpacking. God, whatever he chose, it was already a given that it was gonna be a styleless embarrassment. He was tempted to just buy clothes himself for the boy. Well to save himself from the embarrassment of being seen with the boy.

Berlin crouched over his suitcase as he stacked t-shirts on top of each other, some of the few items left in his bag at this point. He flinched when he heard Kobe speak up behind him, he hadn’t even noticed his roommate had emerged from the bathroom. The herbal smell of the steam emerging into their room accompanied the tall figure that was now hanging around the bed opposite to him. Images of spring waters and greenery struck him mind, the fresh scent contrasted Kobe’s personality– it was far too polished and unassuming for someone with aura of bright red. The boy took out an earphone and let it hang, taking in the question “um… I don’t know, actually” he admitted, standing up to walk over to his closet. He studied the clothes stacked in front of him and pulled out a pair of dark-wash jeans and a simple black crewneck long-sleeve he thought was a safe choice. There were very few colors in his wardrobe– Berlin preferred to blend in rather than stand out so most of his t-shirts were the same cut in a few shades of gray and blue. Even after having to update his wardrobe after his last growth spurt he had stuck to the same scheme he had always worn. He hoped the dark colors would allow him to blend into the background. Perhaps this way he wouldn’t be attract any questions, especially ones about his provenance, and he’d be able to enjoy the night as a fly on the wall in the company of his own thoughts. Just how he liked it.

The boy held the items in his hands and turned to face Kobe, who looked effortlessly fashionable in a white t-shirt and black jeans like some sort of modern-day James Dean. He took a few steps towards his bed, which still held the wrinkles evidencing his short nap from today, and set the items down. He pulled off his sweater and changed into the long-sleeve, and then exchanged his uniform pants for the jeans. Indigo eyes looked down at himself and then back up at Kobe “is this okay?” He asked with a hint of worry in his expression, genuinely unaware of what he should be wearing for the night. He went out very sparingly, if at all, so he wasn’t confident on what to wear for different occasions. Berlin was already nervous about having to meet new people alongside Kobe and the idea of getting weird looks based on his outfit terrified him, so he hoped he’s get some sort of useful feedback before he left the room. It probably wasn’t great, but at least he hoped it wasn’t terrible– at least he could count on his roommate to give him in an unfiltered answer given his disregard for pleasantries.

A nervous hand reached up to pat down the bedhead tangles that had formed during his slumber. Perhaps Kobe would realize it was silly for him to be making an appearance with someone like him by his side and would decide to leave him behind. He thought about revealing that he didn’t drink or smoke and didn’t know how to act in social situation and maybe, just maybe, he’d be left behind to do his reading on his own. However, there was still a part of him that wanted to spend time with Akiyama so he could prove he wasn’t as much as an intolerable jerk as he’d let on this morning. His attraction to him was a definite dead-end, but he could at least yearn to get rid of the animosity between them. It would be hard considering he had a knack for making people dislike him but tonight might be the opportunity to accomplish something if he could keep his mind in one piece.

xxx Kobe stared expressionlessly at Berlin when he took out his headphones in preparation to answer his question. Though, his answer didn't ring as a surprise in his ears in the least. Kobe sighed and held himself back from mumbling something that would most likely be condescending under his breath. Instead, he decided to watch the other silently as he looked through his closet for clothes. He hoped the kid at least had something with a tad bit of fashion to it. Though, seeing how unlikely that was, he didn't wanna get his hopes up. If the other maybe had some decent fashion and clothes, maybe he would actually fit in here more...and hell maybe even look pretty good for a boy. He stopped his mind from trailing off when he noticed the other begin to undress and put on his clothes for the party. He would be lying if he said he wasn't staring at the boy's slim figure during the transitioning of clothes. He shifted his gaze from Berlin's body to his face when he finally turned to show off his outfit of choice.

Kobe pursed his lips as he inspected the clothes that the other was wearing. Simple and dull, just like the person who was wearing them it seemed. But, he had to admit, it was a lot better than what he was expecting. It wasn't eye catching at all, which was good. Kobe didn't want any attention being drawn to the other seeing that it would most likely draw attention to himself. There was just a correlation he didn't desire being noticed. "It'll do, I guess." He said with a shrug. Kobe noticed the hint of worry the other had in his voice when asking. Without a doubt, this had to be the kid's first party. That wasn't too surprising though.Just a tad bit interesting to see Berlin take concern in his appearance. Kobe's gazed shifted to Berlin's head when he was working on combing the knots from his hair with his fingers. Sighing, Kobe approached the other and without asking immediately began working on the boy's hair with his own fingers. He ruffled it slightly to look a tad bit messy in the most intentional way possible. "There. That looks better." He backed up and examined his work before giving a final nod of approval. Berlin looked halfway decent. And it wasn't like Kobe cared to help the boy, he was more concerned with helping himself. If he had to have Berlin stuck by him well he better at least look presentable.

"We're leaving soon. You may wanna grab something to eat. Drinking on an empty stomach is never healthy. Kobe said as he placed the towel that was around his neck on his head in order to dry and style his own hair. He didn't care about the boy's health in the least. He just wanted to say something that would casually bring up the topic of drinking. Kobe wondered how Berlin would react. Would he openly admit to not being one to consume alcohol like Kobe already assumed he was? Or maybe he'd put up some kind of front and go along with it. Who knows. Either way, if truth be told, Kobe was gonna find any way possible to get alcohol in this kid's system. Since his motive was to have something to hold against Berlin, getting him drunk was more than perfect. The fear of getting expelled was enough to hush about anyone up. That kind of dirt on the boy would probably earn Kobe a good month or two of being able to go out and do god knows what without the good boy over there ratting him out.

Having his roommates eyes study him with such scrutiny made Berlin feel even more nervous than he was at first. Akiyama's light irises made his state that much more intense, the worried expression on his face deepened. He unconsciously fidgeted with this thumb while he waited for the other's opinion, a nervous habit he'd had since he was a kid. His roommate's final answer came in neither positive or negative terms: 'not great but also not ridiculous.' He could live with that– as long as he wouldn't get made fun of he didn't mind being the least fashionable in the room. The boy eased up and turned to scan the floor for his tennis shoes, but immediately froze when he noticed Kobe was coming his way. The other's cigarette-tinted hands reached for his hair, combing out from the roots, then messing it up expertly. He was so close he could smell that herbal scent on him and it made his head spin, getting lost in the fragrance and the warm touch. The gentleness of his hands as hey fixed his hair surprised him, he wouldn't have guessed Kobe's touch would feel so... tender. Berlin stood still and held his breath, exhaling only when his roommate decided his hair was okay and took a step back. From the outside he looked calm and collected save for the tint of pink that was warming on his cheeks. On the inside he felt like his veins were coursing with electricity. It was then that he realized it was going to be a very long school year if he was going to unwillingly react like this every time Kobe approached him. He didn't think he could endure being sent into overdrive by such banal moments forever, he'd have to find a way to put an end to this. Perhaps if he could place all of this focus on someone other than his roommate it would make his life easier. That was it! All he needed was a crush, a platonic love interest, a guy he could at least confirm was also into guys. It would make it a lot easier to sleep in the same room as Akiyama.

Berlin bent over his suitcase to take out his white tennis shoes, one of few casual pairs of shoes he had brought along since he expected to use his uniform shoes on most days anyways. He heard Kobe's suggestion that he should eat something and despite always being open to eat more, he didn't want to make the trek to the cafeteria at this hour. "I had dinner not too long a-" he suddenly realized what he was answering and turned to face Kobe. He had cornered him so effortlessly it almost made him angry. The smugness coming from the boy across the room revealed he was in fact being questioned on his commitment to immerse himself in tonight's social gathering. Should he tell the truth? Well, at least getting the truth out of the way meant he wouldn't have to deal with it later. Berlin sighed and sat on his bed, bringing his foot up to put his shoes on, speaking quietly "I don't drink." He worked on the laces, tying them quickly and tightly, glancing at Kobe for a reaction. There were two reasons for his decision to insist on remaining sober: the risk of expelled from school if he was caught, and the fact that he hated he flavor of alcoholic drinks. It was common for everyone to dislike the flavor of liquors, but Berlin had a more acute adversity towards beer. What got to him the most was the smell, it was so putrid simply being next to someone having a glass made him want to gag. How could anyone put that into their bodies willingly? He hoped tonight's gathering would be small enough that no one would think of ordering a pitcher of beer. "Ready when you are" he announced looking down at his shoes. He lifted his gaze to look across the room at Akiyama and his damp hair, mourning the pleasant coexistence they had been able to maintain for a whole twenty minutes or so. He guessed Kobe was surely going to either place a demand that he at least pretend to be fun to be around tonight, or would deject him altogether and desist on trying to help he new kid out by bringing him around altogether. "I know it's a drag but... it's not too late to uninvited me if you'd rather go alone."

xxx Kobe finished up drying his head and combed through it few times with his fingers in order to style it. He didn't bother looking into a mirror, instead just decided to trust his skills. He then shifted his attention to the boy standing across from him. His expression seemed to dismay after Kobe's subtle comment on drinking. Ah, so he was quick to catch on huh. Now Kobe would finally get to find out how the boy was gonna react. Though, he was sure already what the response was bound to be. And to the lack of his surprise, he was right. Of course, Berlin didn't drink. That was a given, The kid probably never even thought about touching a bottle of alcohol with a ten-foot pole. Quite a shame seeing the lack of choice he was gonna have tonight. Kobe only scoffed, insinuating he knew that all along "I never said you drink." He said nonchalantly responded with a sharp tone. "Just saying you might wanna be prepared." He added highly nudging at the idea that the boy was bound to have alcohol in his system before the sun arose the next day. He continued to get ready by slipping on shoes he pulled from his bag. Lastly, he threw on a black light-weight jacket and placed his phone and wallet in his pocket.

Kobe couldn't even make it to the door before hearing more pestering words come from his roommate. God, was he ever gonna stop with that? "Do you recall what we discussed this morning. I'm not asking you to come. I'm telling you to." Kobe didn't even bother to turn and face Berlin as he spoke. Instead, he added an edge to his voice that he hoped would silence the other from being so damn disobedient. It was only day one and Kobe was already tired of this kid. His slim girlish body and face were the only thing keeping Kobe from lashing out at him. Well, maybe it would take a lot more for Kobe to actually lash out than just being insanely annoying. Shanking the thoughts from his head he made his way to the door and signaled for the other to follow him. While he was at it, he decided to shoot him an obvious expression of dissatisfaction.

Once they exited the dorm room, Kobe pulled out his phone to confirm the location of the party. An upperclassman had rented out a venue in town, and lucky for them the alcohol was provided. This party would be like the majority of ones Kobe had attended throughout his time on this campus. They are all packed heavily with people, at least half of them drunk by the time you walk through the front door. But they weren't like normal high school parties that were thrown at some guys house. They were usually at rented-out buildings, like venues for example. The alcohol was also pretty grade-A as well. Stuff a lot better than the kind you'd go pick up at the gas station on the way. The whole ordeal was the kind of luxury normal high school kids couldn't afford to enjoy. And even if you didn't drink, it wasn't hard to have a good time, He figured under normal circumstances, someone like Berlin would be able to enjoy themselves. Though in this case, there were motives that demanded to be fulfilled. Quite a shame actually. Kobe finally broke from his thoughts and looked up for a slight moment to meet the gaze of Berlin "We'll need to go catch a taxi. It's not too far from here." He said before looking back down at his phone as he turned to begin to walk out of the dorm building. He didn't turn to look at the other one but he made the assumption that he would follow.

Berlin's eyes were darted into Kobe but he didn't dare respond to his forewarning about tonight upcoming demands. He knew even if he were to snap back he was still under Kobe's control and would have to follow along with the order to drink. If he rejected the idea he'd surely be forced to pay the consequences, but if he went along with it he'd be risking his permanence at Redwood. He had to admit the Akiyama boy had played his cards right: he was now officially facing a double-edge sword. A nervous feeling struck him, knowing he didn't have experience with alcohol and was going to have to figure it out on the spot. Undoubtedly there was a very big chance this would end badly: he'd most likely make himself sick, get into trouble, embarrass himself, or all of the above combined. Berlin nodded to signal he understood, but his pursed lips and angered stare showed his true feelings about all of this.

Like scolded dog with its tail between its legs, he followed Kobe out the room and closed the door behind him. They made their way out the door and towards the exit of the dorms in silence. Berlin's eyes remained glued to the floor the whole time as he recycled his anger through his thoughts as his only outlet. It was only his first day here and he already separately wanted to turn back around and return to his old life. Back home he didn't feel out of place or pressured to do anything by anyone that mattered, he was simply ignored and left alone for the most. If it didn't mean flushing away his hopes of a full-ride scholarship to university, he would have considered it more strongly. Kobe's voice interrupted his escape fantasies: Berlin looked up and met his gaze, holding the icy stare while shooting silent daggers in his direction. It's as if his facial expression was protesting his inability to express himself verbally. Berlin nodded once again, following him to leave the building. As they stepped outside his body reacted to the crisp night with a shiver: back in the room he was so caught up in his roommate’s a**holery that had been distracted from remembering to bring a coat. It was too late now– if they were going to travel there by cab perhaps he'd spent a short amount of time in the open air and get away with it. As they made their way towards the main gate to catch a cab in front of it the lights the only sound was the crunching of leaves under their feet and the faraway voices of students presumably going out for the night as well. Was going out on the first day of school tradition at this place? It was odd... surely unexpected for a Monday night.

A few cars went by before a cab with the roof light signaling it was available become visible down the road. Berlin took a step into the street and waved it down, successfully getting it to stop for them. He opened the backdoor and motioned for Kobe to hop in "after you". The cab wasn’t super spacious but he still made a point to sit as far away from his counterpart as possible, leaning onto the door with his arms crossed in front of him. His eyes traveled over to Kobe, still glowering, and rested on his handsome face “this makes no sense.” His words came almost in a whisper, more of an outspoken thought than a statement. He burrowed his eyes onto his roommate “if you’re just trying to make me drunk and uncomfortable for a laugh…” he stopped himself from saying anything that could remotely sound like a threat, knowing there was no way he could hold it true “that’s just ******** up.” The car hit a mild bump, causing everyone in it to sway. Berlin wished there were no surprises for him tonight: no prank, no ambush, no secret intentions. It was his first day here and he felt like something lurked at every corner. He knew his peer would quickly figure out he was a loser and would want to stay away from him, but he didn’t expect to have to come out with the ugly truth only on his first day here. Every hope he had of leading a calm existence at Redwood was at stake tonight.

xxx Kobe took a deep inhale as soon as the cool air hit his face. He loved fall weather, the air always seemed so light. He could see the other shiver slightly when making contact with the air. Kobe only shrugged and put his hands inside of his jacket pockets. He could obviously see the other was far from happy with all of this, he wore his emotions on his face, making it plain as day. But he probably wanted to show off how upset it made him without saying so. And that was fine by Kobe because he was still getting what he wanted. That was the least he deserved from this kid, after all, he was the one who had to go and rob Kobe of his leisurely rooming situation and freedom. Sure the other may see him as some pompous, entitled kid but he would expect the same if he was in Kobe's shoes, right? He shook off his thoughts when Berlin managed to get them a cab. When he was motioned by the other to hop in, he only rolled his eyes before getting in and sitting on the opposite side from the other, leaving an empty space between the two.

In the beginning, the car ride was pretty quiet. Kobe sat in silence as he looked out the window, well, until he heard a murmur come from Berlin. He sighed in annoyance before turning his head to look at his. Kobe raised an eyebrow seeing the other was looking at him as well. He groaned hearing the other's words. Sure it would be ******** up. But, Kobe, of course, didn't have such motives. He wasn't doing it for the laugh but instead just have dirt on the other. Though, that was probably just as ******** up. Oh well, Kobe never put himself above doing such things. "Is all you do nag?" He snapped back in an irritated tone. "It's just a party. Stop making a big deal out of nothing. Just don't do anything stupid." He hissed. Berlin's attitude was really starting to irritate Kobe. All he did was grumble about stuff. Couldn't this kid just chill out and hope for a good time. Figuring the thought was too much to ask for he sighed once more and turned again to face outside the window. "Besides, with you being my roommate, it would be an embarrassment to me to let you act in a foolish manner or be made a fool of." He stated finally right before they pulled up to the venue. Even though they were early, there were already plenty teens to be seen lingering in front of the building. Kobe's demeanor seemed to take a 180. Instead of letting the annoyance of his roommate drag him down, he began to feel excited about being here. "Here?" The cab driver asked as he parked. "Yep. Thanks!" Kobe said with a nod as he handed the man a twenty before exiting the car. He waited for the other to exit as well before shutting the door.

Music could already be heard before even entering the building. After maneuvering through crowds of people, he finally managed to get the two of them inside. The giant room was dim and filled with various colored lights, music, and moving bodies. For someone like Kobe, this setting was exactly his type of place. Not even two seconds later someone had already thrown their arm around Kobe. "Hey, Kobe! Glad you could make it! I already got us some drinks and hot chicks to hang with! Do you want something to dr-" Kobe's friend started before his eyes moved from Kobe to Berlin. "Um..Who's that guy with you?" He asked Kobe in a lower tone. Kobe glanced at Berlin from the corner of his eye before looking back at his friend. "Ah..That's my roommate." He said feeling as if that was introduction enough. It was up to Berlin to introduce himself properly to anyone. "Ah cool. You guys want something to drink?" He asked finally removing his arm from Kobe's shoulder. "Yea, We would." Kobe answered on behalf of them both. Not long after Kobe's friend returned with two cups, handing one to both Kobe and Berlin. Without asking what it was, Kobe showed no hesitance to take a sip. "It's brandy, huh?" Kobe asked as he licked the residue from his upper lip. "Sure is. You're impressive as always. It's a French brand called Armagnac. Nice right?" Kobe's friend stated. Kobe just nodded in response before taking another light sip. He turned to Berlin and raised a brow as a grin tugged at his lips. "Go ahead." He said nodding toward the cup, already eager to begin this..

Berlin’s irritation only grew with every word that came out of Kobe’s mouth– he was aware that this must not seem like a big deal to his roommate, but to him this whole endeavor was just the promise of a bad night and a difficult morning tomorrow. He had to admit he felt somewhat comforted by the fact that it would indeed be bad for both of them if anything were to happen to him tonight, at least he could count on not being intentionally put in an embarrassing position. Maybe he was making a big deal out of something simple– it was only natural for someone their age to party and find it fun to drink, and it was about time he ventured into his own inhibitions after years on focusing only on being a good student. If only his social anxiety weren’t threatening to show its ugly head, he would probably be able to convince himself to look at this positively. To make matters worse, his worries only heightened as they approached a loud a crowded venue that was holding something far from just the “gathering” he was promised. His heart rate accelerated with the realization that he had been lied to: it was very clear to him that from now on he wouldn’t trust that a*****e Akiyama. Berlin watched as the other got out of the cab, but his own movements were slow for he was trying to process it all.

His eyes scanned the periphery as he followed closely behind Kobe: before he wanted nothing more than to get away from him but now he dreaded the idea of getting lost in this crowd. Once inside, he stood even closer to his roommate in the dark room filled with people dancing and mingling. Someone bumped into him and he turned to apologize but they were on their way before he could get the word out. The music was loud, the sound of a thousand muffled conversations was jarring, and the smell of beer in the air made him crinkle his nose in repulsion. His slender frame flinched as he was startled by the sudden closeness of a stranger that had approached them to greet Kobe. He instinctively took a step back and eyed the newcomer, who didn’t waste any time in expression confusion about his presence there. “Hi, Berlin” he spoke meekly, but his words were overshadowed by the guy’s voice offering them something to drink. The boy opened his mouth to turn down the offer but Akiyama was faster at speaking for the both of them– resignation washed over him. Within seconds he was handed a cup of amber liquid, which elicited a forced “thank you” from him as he swirled the drink and tried to convince himself the stench of it wasn’t that bad.

Having a sensitive sense of smell was seriously hijacking his ability to enjoy himself right now: the air was saturated with several different perfumes, residual cigarette smoke, sweat, and a mixture of beer and spirits. Berlin watched as Kobe casually took a sip of his identical drink and wondered how his expression remained so unaffected– he must drink often enough that his taste buds were used to it by now. His indigo eyes followed the tongue as it picked what he now understood was brandy from his upper lip, making him forget for a second that he was supposed to follow suit. His roommate’s voice broke him out of his thoughts as it coaxed him. The boy looked down at his cup and and back at Kobe: he almost felt bad that such a quality brandy was being wasted on him. He brought the rim to his lips and tipped the amber liquor into his mouth, quickly swallowing to prevent the taste from staying on his tongue longer than was strictly necessary. His expression winced slightly, but only because he was trying very hard to suppress his full reaction for the sake of saving face. However, once it went down his throat and a warm sensation took over he realized it really wasn’t as bad as he had originally expected from the smell of it alone. He met eyes with Kobe and lifted the cup once again to take a proper sip this time around, swallowing it without displeasure while holding his breath, feeling that warm sensation rise once again. He tilted his head up and placed a smile on his lips for Akiyama, trying to play the part of someone that was having fun, “it’s very nice” he said in agreement with the stranger. It wasn't the complete truth (the aftertaste was wretched), but a small lie in the name of social convention couldn't hurt. He had learned his first lesson: never smell what you’re drinking.

xxx Kobe's eyes were trained on Berlin as he watched him with a pure look of entertainment on his face. He watched silently as the other boy observed his drink before finally taking a hesitant sip of the Brandy. He chuckled to himself seeing how it didn't take too much to coax the boy into drinking it. Though his reaction was a little off from what Kobe was expecting. Instead of making a face of grimace, he made a face that was as close to casual as it got when drinking something you had no taste in. He raised an eyebrow at the anti-climatic reaction but still couldn't help but to let a smirk tug at the corner of his lips. Ah, so the other was just gonna go along with it, huh? Or maybe he was actually just trying to enjoy his time here? That option was a tad bit more unlikely. Either way, he was getting what he wanted so the other was free to do as he liked. Well of course under the supervision of Kobe that. So why not go along with it too? He chuckled and placed a hand on the boys head and ruffled his hair like someone does to a child before leaning in to mumble something to him, "Good boy, not so bad now, is it? He asked in a smug tone before leaning back and taking another large sip of his drink.

"Oh, well if you like that, we have all other kinds of stuff you might like to try." Kobe's friend chimed in with a smile seeing the Berlin approved the drink he had brought to him. Kobe only shook his head slightly as he turned to look at him. "Nah Joel, We'll get some later." Kobe said in response. Sure he wouldn't mind getting to try all the various alcohols that were brought out but he had no intention of overwhelming Berlin for the time being. Because even though he didn't care much for the boy, he didn't know how his body would react to various amounts of alcohol so to keep the heat off both of their backs, Kobe would allow them to take it slow. Joel only nodded in response before patting Kobe on the back, "That's fine dude, but hey, everyone's waiting to see you so let's go." He said before turning on his heel to lead them. Kobe nodded in response allowing Joel to guide him to the rest of his friends. Before though, he looked over at Berlin and nodded his head, signaling his to follow him.

As they were finding their way through and moving through a labyrinth of moving bodies, Kobe couldn't help but smile at his surroundings. The smells, the sounds, and even the constant motion made Kobe feel at ease. This was the definition of his type of place. As he watched all the people dancing and swaying to the blaring music that played overhead, his eyes landed on his larger group of friends who were all dancing as well. "Ah, They're over there," Joel said pointing in the direction that Kobe was already looking. As an idea struck his head He grinned and looked over at the smaller boy next to him. Dancing with a large body people would have to cause him a great deal of anxiety, right? Well, only one way to get over it. "Wanna join?" Kobe asked Berlin with a teasing chuckle as he nodded toward the floor where the majority of people were dance. There was a variety of people dance which ranged from groups of girl dancing modestly to couples where practically a few pairs of clothes away from needing a private room. He wondered if Berlin would agree for the sake of seeming cool. Or maybe something so sudden would cause him to back down.

Berlin instantly felt more at ease with the sense of approval coming from two directions, at least his efforts at trying to pass for someone that belonged here weren’t failing just yet. The sound of Kobe chuckling pleased him as much as it unnerved him– it nice to have him say something positive for once, but it was also an ominous warning that he was expected to keep this up throughout the night. The hand that ruffled his hair made him frown even if a blush crept onto his cheeks. He mentally blamed it on the fact that it was warm in this room from the number of moving bodies, but part of him knew he was enjoying being patronized by Akiyama in some twisted way. Perhaps that would explain why he felt so particularly combative towards him. Berlin reached up to pat down his ruffled hair knowing it was never to look as good as it had when his roommate had fixed it for him back in the room. The stranger offered to bring him something else to drink, but thankfully Kobe was quick to turn down the offer for him. It seemed they were both on the same page with taking it slow to avoid the risk of giving this night a bad end before it had even started. This wasn’t the time to get overly confident about his ability to pretend he was enjoying drinking; it would be best if he kept his sips unlike the gulp this roommate was downing.

When Joel, whose name was finally revealed in conversation, brought up the rest of their friend group the boy’s nervousness started to show again. Couldn’t they just stand here and talk so he could pretend he was participating in conversation? The last thing he wanted was to have to appear likeable to a bunch of strangers. He was prompted by a nod, making his way behind the two boys as they snaked their way around the dancing bodies. His eyes watched as girls and guys alike followed behind Kobe with their gaze as he passed them almost gliding across the room. It seemed Akiyama had much bigger reputation than he had initially gauged. All the more reason to shake off these stupid reactions he had to the other. On the bright side, his roommate hogging the attention made him invisible. Berlin’s eyes scanned the room and landed on the group of people Joel was pointing to: a crowd of beautiful people, all of them well dressed, every last one of them looking like they were having fun without the slightest effort. The boy immediately knew he would be immediately stand out as a stick in the mud. The dare came dressed as a question, a chuckle punctuating how much Akiyama was enjoying Berlin’s boundaries. The boy took a sip of his drink and shook his head– it’s not that he didn’t want to, he simply couldn’t. His feet were rooted to the ground, his eyes glued on the group of strangers, he could feel his ears warm at the image of having to make a fool of himself in the midst of them.

“Uh…” He could predict that Kobe wouldn’t be forgiving of him simply saying no, so he chose to elaborate “I think I want to finish my drink first” he said, glancing over to the bar trying to spot an empty stool where he could perch and stay out of trouble. His strategy had shifted once again: between sticking with Kobe ad having to dance and finding a quiet corner to tuck into by himself he immediately knew he preferred the latter. He knew he would feel self-conscious sitting by himself, but it was nothing compared to potentially crumbling under the pressure of having fun with a crowd of strangers. “You should go ahead. There’s a ton of girls looking at you, I’ll probably just get in your way” he added, knowing Kobe was far too smart not to see through his excuses, but hoping he would just let it go this once. His feet began to take steps away from the dancefloor slowly as if he were a creeping away from a predatory beast, his hand clutching the drink he was holding a little tighter. He distractedly took a sip, occupied by the anticipation to Kobe's response "I'll come find you, I promise" he lied.

xxx Kobe's eyes flickered across the abundance of moving bodies. Just the sight was enough to bring a smirk to his lips. He loved this type of environment, it was so carefree. Any stress you had weighing on your shoulder could quickly and effortlessly disappear in the matter of a few drinks. Sure some would say that it's not the best way to handle your problems but hell, it worked just fine for Kobe. Today itself was the perfect day to drink. The first day of school was always annoyance enough but especially after his parent's pretty selfish decision, Why not let a few sips of whatever the hell was in this cup do its job? Kobe's gaze fell back on the tiny boy beside of him. He was basically wearing his feeling of disapproval on his sleeve, even though he was trying so hard not to. Sure Kobe hadn't really known this kid for too terribly long but he could tell the kid was just pretending. Maybe he just knew because of his assumption of the kid's nature? Or maybe it was the response he received seconds after suggesting they both go dance. Berlin's response made it painfully obvious how he felt about the situation.

Kobe could only sigh after the boys continued the effort to express how much he didn't want to go dance in the form of excuses. He had no reason to force Berlin to go dance right now, to be honest. If the boy wanted to prolong the inevitable, so be it. "Hm you're right. A drink might get in the way, but I don't really think you would." He said before downing the rest of his drink and tossing the cup to a table nearby. The cup seemed to disappear into a pile of belongings. These belongings consisted of things like purses, shoes and just a bunch of things people found it hard to dance with. He looked back to Berlin who was awkwardly shrinking away. "Fine. But as soon as you finish it come meet me." He said in a somewhat demanding tone as he eyed the boy. "I'll be watching, so don't try anything funny like sneaking away." He said with a final smirk and chuckle before waving off the boy. He turned on his heel to face Joel. He had already struck up a converstion with some near by girls. Typical.

Once Kobe had made his way to his group of friends on the dance floor, they all greeted him and he did the same in return. They all had a light demeanor and were jovial for the most part. It wasn't long before Kobe found himself in the middle of the group as he swayed along with the other to the music. He was enjoying himself, to say the least. Though sometimes his gaze would travel from the group as he tried to spot where ever Berlin managed to scurry off to. It would most likely be Kobe's job to go find his anyways. There was no way Berlin would approach this group by himself. Kobe shook his head. Why was he thinking about such things now? Enjoying himself didn't involve wondering what Berlin was doing right now. He quickly regained focus to what he was doing when the music happened to change to a song he liked. "Oh you know this song?" A girl's voice beside him said. Kobe glanced over to see a girl who looked to have she pushed through a good few people to get to him. He could barely hear her over the blaring music but he managed to give a nod which a earned him a light giggle from her. It made Kobe tense a little, He was hoping to get to meet a girl here but so soon must be a blessing. Hell maybe if Berlin was here too, Kobe would even maybe be able to get him a girl too. Maybe then he wouldn't be such a stick in the mud. He groaned at the thought. Why the hell did Berlin keep incorporating himself into Kobe's thoughts? It was none-the-less annoying on his part.

Berlin nodded in agreement to his roommate’s terms, feeling relieved at being let off the hook just this once so he could go gather his thought at the bar and bask in his solitude. “I won’t, I’ll find you” he assured him, watching as the young man turned to face his group of friends and melted into the crowd with ease. He took his own path towards the bar and walked down the row of stools until he spotted an empty one, but it was promptly occupied by a girl who slid into place before he could claim the seat as his own. Damn. He was forced to walk over to the side to find the next empty stool, setting the drink down onto the surface to ensure the bartender wouldn’t mistake him for someone in need of a refill. The raven-haired boy sighed lethargically and propped his elbow, resting his chin on the palm of his hand while he absent-mindedly swirled the amber liquid in his cup. There was a slight warmth already building up within him, and he knew it wouldn’t take much more before he’d start slipping under the effects of the alcohol. It was a daunting diagnostic, but he took another sip nonetheless before looking over to his right to spot Kobe speaking to a girl in the distance. Figures, it didn’t take long before he was pounced at.

“You look positively lonely” came a voice from behind that startled him out of his thoughts send his gaze shooting towards the stranger nudging besides his stool to access the bar. An empty glass was set down on the wooden surface by him, so Berlin scooted to one side to make room for him to make his order. “It’s kind of the point. I’m taking a break” he responded without giving much of an explanation and just enough hostility to discourage a conversation. His eyes ventured to look up and over, taking in the appearance of the stranger: pleasant good looks but nothing out of this world, a lithe build, light brown hair cut nicely, dark eyes, and a single silver hoop earring embracing his earlobe. “It’s pretty early still. What are you drinking?” The other probed, promptly changing the subject perhaps due to the tone he’d received to his last question. “Armagnac” Berlin said, quoting Joel as he once again refused to grant their interaction inertia. The stranger eyes his cup and raised an eyebrow with a hint of amusement that left him wondering what was so peculiar about his drink “where’d you get that?” “Someone gave it to me” he replied, “why?” Being interrogated was beginning to strike a defensiveness in him, his expression defiant. “It’s a bold choice, is all. I wasn’t expecting it, you seem more a ‘gin and tonic’ type of guy” the brunette responded implying something that made Berlin think perhaps he should be offended but he couldn’t be sure knowing nothing about drinking culture. Maybe he was overreacting, so he decided to let it be and instead bring some more of his drink to his lips. “Maybe, I’ve never had one” he admitted, mentally putting an end to their interaction by turning his head in the opposite direction and watching the crowd.

He was in the middle of skimming the faces to find Kobe’s when the stranger asking the bartender for two gin and tonics grasped his attention. He insisted on keeping his gaze away, eavesdropping on the conversation and refusing to turn back to face him up until a tap on the shoulder demanded he did. Berlin looked back and realized he was being offered a cup of transparent bubbly liquid looking not much different from a Sprite. He took it tentatively, and peered into it taking a sip to find there was no resemblance to Sprite in the slightest even if this did taste a lot milder than the brandy. “So what’s the verdict?” asked the brunette, who had watched him the whole time he had tasted the mix. “It’s good” Berlin admitted “thank you” he bid in a monotone, feeling his apprehension melt away. With only a few more nudging prompts from the stranger they slipped into a comfortable back-and-forth of casual topics that were paused here and there with sips of either drink. It was harder to tell his pace now that he was drinking out of two different cups, but Berlin knew he was beginning to slip when he laughed loudly at a quip by the brunette that wasn’t funny enough to warrant such a reaction. This realization was confirmed by the casual demeanor with which he finished the brandy, not being able to sense the harsh taste that had once assaulted his senses. He wondered for a moment whether it was time to ask Kobe to let him leave to the dorms to avoid touching another drink tonight, but he was just not starting to have fun. His eyes peered at the crowd and a drowned sense of worry filled him when he realized he couldn't spot his roommate.

xxx The crowd that surrounded Kobe both energetically moved and swayed along with the upbeat music. Some songs and surrounding dancers of course promoted more physical contact than others. This typically involved girls dancing against other guys and vise versa, this would just result in couples drifting from the crowd and making out in some corner. Kobe himself had fallen victim to this cycle a good few times. He thought maybe would have that kind of luck tonight with the certain girl who had approached him earlier. She was still by his side and by her flirtatious dancing, Kobe had high hopes. He had no intention of being shy so he returned the flirtatious actions by placing his hands on her hips as she continued to dance close to him, their body making light contact. A grin a tugged at his lips as he watched her. A second later his eyes drifted up for a moment before he was brought to a pause. Kobe and his group and gotten so engulfed in he crowd that he could no longer see past all the dancing bodies. That meant he couldn't see Berlin. He furrowed his brows, this was only a worry since there was no telling what trouble the other could be possibly be in. Kobe didn't want to taking the blame in case the kid went missing. He sighed before stepping back, but before he could take another step Joel grabbed his shoulder and shot him a questioning glance. "You okay dude?" Joel said, trying to speak over the blaring music. "Yea, I just need a small break." Kobe said, attempting to make up an excuse on the spot. Joel just chuckled at his response, "You must not be drunk enough if only a few minutes is tiring you out, old man." He said poking at his side. "Let's go to the lounge and get drinks." Joel insisted without giving Kobe time to protest before he informed their whole circle of the new plan. He groaned but still followed everyone out the crowd.

Once out of the crowd, Kobe still wasn't able to see the spot were Berlin said said he would preside for the time being. He pursed his lips before sitting down on one of the various couches in the lounge. Joel sat on side of him and the girl from the dance floor sat on the other side, other friends surround them in other chairs and love seats. He felt antsy as he sat, not knowing quite where the other was. Joel leaned back beside him, "Ah, Good idea Kobe, my feet were killing me." Kobe just rolled his eyes. This wasn't his idea nor intention. 'Yea, Yea. Anyways I'm gonna go fetch us some drinks." He said as he made his way to his feet. "Oh I can help." He girl beside him said as he grabbed his forearm. Kobe looked over at her before shaking his head. The only reason he was volunteering was so he could find the other. And the less that knew of the other the better. "No thanks. I got it, you just relax." Kobe said giving her a smirk. She paused before nodding as a slight blush crossed her cheeks and she released her hold on his arm. Kobe gave a final wave before taking his leave. He navigated through the crowds of people, avoiding bumping into them or knocking into their drinks with a certain type of skill he acquired after attending these types of parties time after time. Once the bar was in slight it didn't take him long before his eyes landed on Berlin. Kobe could feel a wave of relief wash over him. He wasn't gonna be in a s**t ton of trouble after all. The boy seemed to be laugh loudly as he sipped from a drink from that Kobe didn't give to him. His eyes then drifted to the guy beside Berlin. He knew the guy beside Berlin had to have bought it seeing the other most likely wouldn't spend money, if he even had any, on alcohol. It was strange to see that the other could make such a face. He crossed his arms as he stared at the sight. Too bad Kobe had to intervene. Berlin was naive and it was fifty percent possible the guy next to him had unpure intentions. Sure, he was most likely some normal dude but these situations were too perfect for something to go wrong. Kobe, of course, didn't want to get the blame for dragging his roommate to a party he got drugged at.

Kobe approached his roommate the guy beside him. He eyed the man before turning to look at Berlin. Damn, this kid had to be light weight. He already seemed to be tipsy. "Someone's enjoying themselves I see." He stated bluntly before shifting his gaze from Berlin to the guy beside him. "I appreciate you watching him, but I think you should go now." He said giving the guy a dirty look, hoping to scare him way with looks alone. He turned back to Berlin before motioning to the drink in front of him with a nod. "You know how easy it is for someone to slip something into your drink the moment you look away?" He said in almost in a scolding tone. It wasn't like he could just leave the boy here alone now. Not seeing him becoming pretty tipsy, and not to mention how naive he was about these things. "What ever. It cant be helped, You have to stay with me for the rest of the night, got it?" He said in a stern tone that didn't leave much room for protest.
