Yeozree wandered quietly across the park, moving through the darkness like one of the night's own children, his eyes catching the moonlight every now and again like bright chips of mirror glass. His feet were small and bare, cutting through the dewy grass with very little sound, the nails fine and painted, the color difficult to tell in this light. The shoes in his hands were a rich, cherry red, the material sleek and solid and slightly transparent, the toes pointed and curled upward in an old, traditional Thai fashion. His clothes were the same, Thai, older rather than modern, his shirt a sleeveless button down, the collar loose and raised, arched higher in the back and sweeping down into neat little corners around his throat, red like his shoes with gold and green trimmings. His pants rested low and snug about his hips, loosening in the legs, the material soft and fluid, tinted with blues and greens that gave it a sea water sort of color. The belt and sash about his hips glittered in the few snatches of light that slid over his body, the belt a thing of silver chain links with an ornate, floral buckle, the sash all silk and flowy, a tail hanging off each hip, a rich purple with red hues and a dusting of gold like stars caught in the fabric. The darkness muted the colors, stealing their warm brightness as cool shadows slid over golden browned skin. Yeozree picked up the pace, his eyes focused on a grassy hill just off the paved and lamplit paths. It would do just fine and he made a run for it, enjoying the chance to stretch his legs.
When he made it to high ground he stopped, breathing in the cool night air, staring up at the sky. His hands slowly uncurled, dropping his shoes as he sank into the grass, his long hair pooling around him as he lay down, sprawled and stretched out against the soft damp earth. The sky was perfect all ink and stainless night, pinpricks of glittering white and blue inlaid like diamonds stitched to silk. His breathing settled, his muscles relaxing, stress and strain and nerves, his almost constant companions, melting away as he stared into the dark. He felt safe there. He thought he was alone. He hadn't paid the park benches much mind or the concrete paths, any of it. Normal people just didn't come here so late and the loons usually had better things to do.

Yeozree sat up, scrambling backwards in a wild rush. In his haste, he almost wound up tangling himself up on his own tail, a long forked thing that trailed out behind him, coated in soft, waxy fur like spines that bore a dazzling Cheshire-cat-like array of colors better meant for an artists renderings of sea water than any living creature's mantle. As strange and alien a thing it was on an otherwise human looking boy, it wasn't even normal by its own standard. It was damaged, marred. Where the tail split into two halfway through its length, one forked end cut short, significantly lesser than the other, its sudden, stumpy end obviously not what nature had intended given the ragged, naked tip where fur refused to grow again. Even strung out across the grass between sprawled and quivering legs, it lay at an odd angle, its nervous, agitated movements slightly off kilter -- only further suggestion that the missing portion of that tail wasn't the only damage it had suffered. Vertebra broken and cracked along the base, the healing gone all wrong -- Yeozree remembered very well what kind of agony that kind of damage had caused. Its echo remained with him to the day -- tendrils and jagged spikes lingered, creeping up on him now again but he had learned to live with it. He had learned, because now there was nothing for it, no remedy or surgery, no way back, nothing to erase what had been done or even the memory. But he had survived and he could live with the memory. Now he lived to survive.
His hand darted to his hip, the movement fast and fluid, much better than a human's reflexes and then his arm shot out in front of him, his hand fisted around the handle of a wicked little blade, its razor edge gleaming in the moonlight. "I know," he hissed, his grip tightening on the blade, dark eyes narrowing. Yes, he knew, better than most. To him, nowhere was safe, so everywhere he went, he went prepared. The blade in his hand wasn't even the only weapon he had on him but he hid his defense very well. His eyes flicked over the stranger, taking everything in very quickly. Clearly the man wasn't human but neither was he, the fact held little shock value. It didn't matter what he was. The man could have been a rabbit for all he cared, his chest still rose and fell heavy and fast, his breathing panicked or verging on it, fear rolling off him even as he put on a brave face, his lips pulled back over straight white teeth in something of an animal's snarl, his chin raised like he wasn't scared out of his wits, his body a live wire of tension from head to toe.
