Vellen Elorind
Her lithe body crouched down, tight like a loaded trap ready to spring at any second. Alexi began to count off, but the sound of hooves pounding pavement interrupted her. A wagon blocked their escape route, a much nicer one Vellen noted, as common folk quickly moved out of the way. The elf tensed even more, picking up on the unease her companion felt.
'Aeliana Ventra?' The name didn't ring any bells, though if she thought long enough she could probably recount hearing it once. The woman that stepped forth exuded authority and looked like she had the power to back it up. Vellen watched Alexi cover her nose, blocking some sent that she herself couldn't detect; her ears were much more sensitive than her nose when it came to detecting anomalies.
As soon as the imposing woman spoke Vellen knew for sure, there was no uncertainty that this affluent woman was a threat. Her voice held a certain malice about it and the way Aeliana interacted with the slavers sent a shiver up her spine, like Vyntra wouldn't have an issue with cutting anyone down without a second thought. The scraping of something hidden and heavy grated against her sensitive hearing, she couldn't but wonder what she was hiding. It couldn't be anything pleasant.
It was inevitable that they would open the wagon up and discover it barren but it still caused Vell to shift her weight nervously, fear of being caught by the black haired women danced in her mind. The slavers rushed to follow Vyntra's orders and of course found their cargo missing.
The young woman hadn't any time to dwell much longer on what faced her if she were to be captured, which had seemed inevitable. She felt Alexius' strong hand wrap around her own as she was pulled up and out from under the salver's wagon. She jerked slightly when the violet haired human tipped Vyntra's carriage with repose. It was mere seconds when the two entered the alley, running as fast as their feet could manage.
Over the sound of her heart pumping ferociously in her ears she managed to pick up the sound of shouts demanding their capture. They scarcely had a few seconds before they were being pursued by both the slavers and soldiers alike.
The blinding sunshine reflecting off colorful overhangs filled with a mass of people met the two fugitives as the exited the alley and into the larger market. It didn't offer any relief to the elf as they didn't exactly blend in among the traders and commoners. Vell continued running, slipping past people milling about and pushing them aside when they wouldn't part.
”There! Don't lose sight of them!” Vellen could hear the men as if they were right on top of her and chanced a glance over her shoulder. The sight of them pouring out of the alley like a wave made her run even faster, her grip ironclad around Alexius' hand; if they got separated she feared they would never see each other again.
Vell careened around the nearest corner, her shoddy boots almost slipping out from beneath her as she scrabbled for purchase. ”There!” The elf practically screamed, her ragged breathing wouldn't allow for more. But nothing more needed to be said; in the distance a golden peak sat atop a blindingly white marble tower with ornate carvings too far to discern. It was Adestania's dungeon.
