Kobe, Kobe, Kobe. Where the hell was he? Berlin moved to stand from his stool to go find him but his newfound friend stopped him by placing a hand on his shoulder and coaxing him back into their conversation “woah, where are you going? Looking for your girlfriend… boyfriend?” The insinuation made Berlin frown “why would you say that?” The stranger shrugged and chuckled “it’s a different era, you never know anymore. Relax, I’m just curious nothing more.” Berlin looked at him for a moment and settled back into his stool, taking the drink in his hand for another sip. He was still ticked off by this guy’s off-key comment but he was willing to be civil for now or at least until Kobe decided to resurface from the crowd. He shut down the topic with a glare and a quick dismissive “I don’t have a girlfriend” before allowing the interaction to move on. His mood never bounced back from their little discord, but at least he got to laugh a couple more times before Kobe sprouted out of left field and crushed the moment. At his core, Berlin was happy to see him but he did feel robbed of a potential friend by the way he promptly dismissed his acquaintance with his icy disposition and a snarky greeting. The stranger looked like he was ready to retaliate for a brief moment, but his senses kicked in just in time and he scurried away without saying anything to Akiyama. Damn, this guy’s reputation sure followed him around.

Berlin looked up at him and sighed, wondering what the hell had happened to their agreement “where were y-“ he was cut off by a disturbing social culture fun fact that was unceremoniously dropped on his lap for consideration. “What do you mean?” He asked, genuinely confused by that the ‘something’ that could be ‘slipped’ into his drink could be– he was a guy, that kind of thing only happened to girls. Right? Berlin looked inside his up of gin and tonic and tried to determine whether something was off about it, but had no point of reference to know if there was anything unusual of the taste of his cocktail. If something was dropped in there without his knowledge it would be too late: he had already drunk most of it. His expression turned to worry and he slid his drink across the bar and away from him, he’d had enough for a night anyways. “Okay” obliged, wondering how he had managed up mess up and piss Kobe off again, it seemed to be the one consistent thing about their interactions. “But I don’t want to dance and I don’t want to drink anymore” he announced as he slid off the stool, knowing there was a fat chance he would still be made t to engage in both those things. When his feet touched the ground he felt the room spin for a split second and realized only then that he was definitely drunk. He instinctively reached up to grab Kobe’s forearm since he felt like his body might topple over, but in the end it was just a visual slip-up. Berlin brought his other hand up to rub his eyes and blinked a few times trying to focus them properly in the dark room. “I have to go to the bathroom” he declared, suddenly with and urge to release all the liquid he’d been putting into his body the last hour or so. This would also serve to stall on having to mingle with Kobe’s friends since he really wasn’t in the mood to be social after maybe being drugged by a stranger. Looking around the room he spotted the bathroom sign and, against all better judgement, tugged at Kobe’s arm to lead him in that direction like he actually had any command in the situation. He was also hungry, sleepy, and giddy all at the same time… drinking was the worst.

xxx Kobe looked down at the boy with quite the piercing gaze. He tried to conceal how annoyed the whole situation made him, but he was one to hold his emotion on his face at times like this. Was this kid serious? The confusion written on Berlin's face spoke for itself causing Kobe to sigh in irritation. He took the moment to remind himself the other had never been somewhere like this. After thinking on it for a moment he decided to drop his annoyance and let it go this time. Acting aggressive toward the boy wasn't gonna get his point across, especially not while he appeared to be a bit more than just tipsy. He was taken from his thoughts when he noticed the other pushing his cup away. He sighed seeing Berlins face also falling into one of worry. "Look, that guy probably just got you the drink as a benevolent gesture." Kobe said in a way that was a bit softer compared to scolding tone. "But anything is a possibility so be careful next time and pay attention." He stated right before Berlin declared he would go along with what Kobe demanded. That was surprising. He was expecting a least a little bit of back lash, though he wasn't complaining. Berlin listening to him and obeying his demands was how it should be.

Kobe thought the other was being a bit bold for a moment by declaring what he wasn't gonna do, but the moment he watched the boy almost fall over the moment his feet touched the ground sort of made him lose his momentary cool. Kobe flinched out of surprise when the other grabbed onto his forearm in order to maintain his balance but could only raise an eyebrow at him. "Gezz you barely drank anything. Damn lightweight." He complained in almost a mumble as he helped the other stand up straight once more. This is exactly what he didn't wanna have to do, baby sit some drunk kid. Sure he promoted Berlin to get some alcohol in his system from the start but he was hoping maybe Berlin would not be a stick in the mud when drunk, guess that was a safe idea to toss. He groaned to himself as he watched Berlin and his attempts to recollect himself. How was he supposed to return to his friends with no drinks, but instead some drunk guy they never met. That was gonna be the most embarrassing way to have to introduce the kid. Kobe groaned at the thought and took a moment to curse his luck.

He thought nothing of the other stating he needed to use the bathroom, he was taken aback though when he felt Berlin tug at his arm. Kobe looked in the direction of the bathroom and then to the other who was holding onto his arm. Now he really did feel as if he were a babysitter. "Alright, alright. He said, still holding the others arm to keep him stable. He pulled him a tad bit closer as he began to lead them to the restroom. The last thing he needed was the attention that would be drawn to them if Berlin did manage to topple over. He guided the two through the large crowd of carousing teens and straight in the direction of the restroom. Once they had finally made it there, Kobe sighed in relief before looking over at Berlin. "Hope you can use the bathroom on your own because my assistance ends here." He stated as he removed the others hold from his arm. "Anyways, you're not gonna throw up, are you?" He asked as took a moment to contemplate offering to go get him a bottle of water but found it best not to come off as too friendly or caring. So, instead, he just let out a sigh and leaned against the wall, his eyes on the other,

A lightweight– that much he couldn’t deny. The walk to the bathroom as framed by people in all directions, avoiding collisions. Berlin was sure if Kobe didn’t have a steady hold on him he would’ve crashed into several strangers on his way over, probably ending in him meeting the ground at some point. They pushed the door in and he was relieved to see there wasn’t a line like the one leading into the girl’s bathroom. That would’ve been an unbearable wait. “I think I can handle it,” he answered sarcastically, his inhibitions reintroducing his abrasive manners. Kobe’s casually-worded question made him laugh, surprising even himself. Although he was sure he didn’t feel like throwing up now, it wasn’t a promise he could hold up if he kept drinking so this would definitely be the end of his run for the night. “Relax, I’m not. I’m fine” he assured him and moved towards one of the urinals. Usually he avoided urinals due to his shy bladder, but right now he felt like he was about to burst and this was the simplest way to go about it given that the stall doors were shut and he didn’t feel like checking for a vacant one.

Relief. There was no better feeling. He tucked himself back in and made sure everything was zipped up before moving over to the sink to wash his hands. Looking in the mirror he noticed his appearance was askew, and noticed with even more interest he simply didn’t care. Is this why people liked drinking as much as they did? Was caring that much of a problem for them that leaving it all behind for a few hours became so necessary? He couldn’t pretend not to understand, now that he had grasped that much it did have its appeal. As someone who cared a lot about intense subjects like his own future hinging on academic success he knew it was draining to always be on top of it. He turned off the faucet and looked over at Kobe, silently wondering what his roommate could be blocking out by seeking these types of environments. He was wealthy and he assisted to one of the best private school in country– there didn’t seem to be much room for distress in that type of lifestyle. Then again, there are some problems money simply can’t solve.

Berlin tugged at the paper towels and dried his hands “alright, all done.” His hand automatically moved to hold onto the other’s arm but, realizing what he was doing with horror, dropped it immediately after “sorry.” His ears warmed with embarrassment, but a twisted determination built up inside of him. No, he wasn’t sorry. He’d been attracted to Kobe from the moment he laid eyes on him and despite his abhorrent personality he still couldn’t deny something about that guy that earned him some prime real estate on his mind. Were he sober he would’ve walked away and pretended nothing happened, submitted to the idea of just skulking back to meet his roommate’s friends and pretend to be easy to talk to for the rest of the night. Instead, he stood right where he was, locked eyes with Kobe, and grabbed onto his arm all over again without offering as much as an explanation for the bizarre behavior. As soon as he made contact he panicked, not knowing where to go from here and for the umpteenth time in his life relearning that he didn’t have a clue how to go about this. He swallowed hard and dropped his hand again. “So… your friends. Where are they?” Maybe by some miracle this had all gone unnoticed. Unlikely.

Kobe sighed to himself as he listened to the other speak, before looking off at some corner as the other did his business. He wondered what is friends must be up to right about now. They were probably wondering themselves as to where Kobe had wandered off to. Or maybe they were too drunk to notice his prolonged absence. Either way, Kobe was not too bothered and shrugged off the thought before turning his attention to Berlin, once he finished up. He raised an eyebrow as he looked down at the other. Maybe he should call an end to things for the night. After all, he wasn't sure how much the other could do without becoming sick or passing out. Kobe wished he were drunk enough to have the same concern for himself, he thought with a huff.

As Berlin approached him and stood by Kobe once more, he thought he might as well tell the kid that they would be going back to the dorm. His words were brought to an abrupt stop though when he noticed the other arm moving toward his. He paused as he watched the other collect himself for a split second and pull his arm back. Kobe could only assume Berlin would shy back away. That assumption didn't last long though as Kobe noticed Berlin's piercing gaze toward him before the boy grabbed his arm once more. Kobe was taken aback to say the least. It was quite a bold thing for the other to do considering all his past actions. Though, it didn't take Kobe long before shaking off the surprise seeing as to how it was most likely due to Berlin's drunken state. Even with that in mind, he couldn't but to turn his head to face away from the other in order to hide the faint tint of pink that crept up on his cheeks. Jeez, it wasn't like it was a sort of cute slip up, maybe had more alcohol than he thought. Now that he thought about it, maybe he just hadn't had enough. "They're in the lounge area." Kobe responded in a forced casual tone before shaking his head and deciding it to better to pretend nothing happened.

Kobe began to lead the two through the large crowds of dancing teens once more. Sure their past interaction was fairly awkward, but Kobe was still sure to keep the other close to him so he wouldn't bump into anyone. He sighed in relief when they finally made it to the dim lit lounging area where Kobe's friends resided. Joel was the first one to greet the two boys. "Hey guys!" He said excitedly while waving at the two of them. Before Kobe had time to respond, the same girl from earlier butted in to speak. "Where'd you go, Kobe? We had to go get drinks ourselves." The girl said with a pouting expression. Kobe's eyes then shifted to the table that sat in front of the lounge chairs which was covered in an assortment of different drinks. "I had to go the bathroom." He said quickly brushing odd her question. "Anyways, everyone this is Berlin." He said almost through grit teeth as he placed a hand on the boys shoulder. His friends all greeted Berlin either with waves or a 'what's up.' He really wanted to be able to keep his little roommate a secret for as long as possible but since Berlin proved unfit to sit alone, he had no choice but to have to bring the kid along. The girl pursed her lips in annoyance seeing how quickly Kobe shifted his attention from her to Berlin. "Jeez, where did you find him." She scoffed in quite the ill-mannered tone. Kobe paused for a moment as he looked at the girl, not entirely sure why her comment sparked such a high level of irritation in him. Before he had the chance to snap back her with a snarky rebuttal, Joel stepped in between them to interrupt. "Ah just ignore her, she's had a little too much to drink." He said nodding toward Kobe, hoping to silence him from creating anymore tension before turning toward Berlin and giving him an assuring nod as well. "Anyways, I grabbed you this." Joel said as he handed Kobe a glass filled with a light colored liquid. "Its just cranberry rum. Oh, and sorry I didn't grab you anything, bud. I wasn't aware you were coming back with Kobe." He said looking to Berlin with a smile. Leave it to Joel to be the mediator. He'd always been one of Kobe's closest friends and not to mention the most pleasant to around both drunk and sober. Kobe stared down at his drink with an expression closely mimicking one that of a pouting child. Why would he get so hot blooded over the girls mere comment. He wasn't one to care if someone insulted another as long as Kobe had no interest in the said person. After all, Kobe barely even knew Berlin and what he did know he didnt like. He sighed shaking the thoughts from his head before taking a big sip of his drink. Surly it was the alcohol, right? .

Whether his stumble into boldness went noticed or unnoticed would remain a mystery, but either way Kobe simply moved past it and guided both of them out of the bathroom and back into the dark and a loud space. The fact that they were headed to the lounge area granted him solace in knowing that the dancing would be done for now. Berlin could tell there was a tension between him and his roommate (on top of the already existing one) that probably stemmed from his bizarre behavior or the fact that he was intoxicated. Hoping that it was the former, he tried his best to keep his drunken state as concealed as possible by focusing on his step and making sure he wasn’t falling behind. He assumed if he could just stay out of the other’s hair and stop making naïve decisions like had had back while he was sitting at the bar then maybe Kobe would stop fussing about him.

Seeing Joel at the table was comforting, the near-stranger had a way about him that out Berlin at ease so at least he would have his presence to look to in the midst of all the awkwardness. He stood and waited for his cue that came in as a forced general introduction to everybody present, making him feel on the spot as all eyes traveled to glance at him with confusion or disinterest. Or so he thought at least. The hand on his shoulder was heavy. “Hey” he greeted them back simply, attempting to make eye contact but dropping his gaze in the end while scanning the seats for an open spot. Just as he was sinking into the realization that he’d have to sit away from Kobe given that the only few spots left were far apart, a female voice tore into the dialogue with disdain. Oh God. His eyes shot towards her but his body fell paralyzed in overwhelming self-awareness– he knew it, they hated him. Even though there was no reason to believe anyone at the table shared her contempt for him, Berlin was quick to build the scenario in his head and feel the idle eyes as judgmental stares wishing for his departure. Self-doubt came naturally to him. This was the exact scenario he was so afraid of encountering before coming here, and it was now thick in the air and truly present. Was it his clothes? His hair? The look on his face? A pauper air about him that gave him away? Was there a glaring red flag on his person that only they could see? Suddenly he couldn’t be so sure he wasn’t going to be sick, although the alcohol wouldn’t be to blame. His jaw clenched, his throat swallowed thick, and his eyes glanced to the side trying to pry himself away from the situation.

Joel was the one to interject and cool the rising temperatures by means of friendliness. Berlin tried to offer him a smile in return but his lips wouldn’t oblige, morphing into a nervous expression instead. “No, that’s alright. I’ve had enough” he assured Joel in return for his kindness. He scanned the seating arrangement a second time trying to figure out where to place himself amongst the rich and beautiful. The girl’s remark hung in the air. Berlin looked at her and then back at Kobe, finding a smidge of please in his displeased expression, and decided this was a sinking ship he might as well go down with. He moved over to sit next to the girl in the spot that, unbeknownst to him, had been Kobe’s only a short while ago and turned to look straight at her “I’m his roommate, I was forced upon him. Where’d find you… the dog pound?” He remarked bitterly, making himself comfortable against the seat in preparation of the backlash. This definitely wasn’t the road to forging friendships and would definitely earn him a few enemies on his first day of being here, but Berlin was feeling sick and tired of this evening and maybe proving to Kobe that he wasn’t fit to be bringing around other people would turn him off the idea of ever putting him in this position again. Not to mention getting booted off the table was the quickest way out of here.

The surrounding air almost seemed to have a stagnant yet awkward feel to it. Kobe himself seemed to be a tad bit more agitated than before. It was even more irritating to know he didn't really have a reason to be mad. At least one that he saw to be reasonable. He sighed and took another sip of the drink in his hand, hoping to cool down for a moment and collect his composure. He looked over at Berlin who seemed to have over a million thoughts in his head. Sure, Kobe didn't care for the boy much, but he still couldn't help but feel a little guilty for what happened. He didn't even know what he could be able to say to the other to cool his edge, maybe it would of been better if he would of just taken the boy home earlier. After all, the only time Berlin seemed to enjoy himself at all was when he was with the guy at the bar. Kobe furrowed his brows and looked back down at the drink in his hand. And to think, none of this would of had to happen if he wouldn't of got roomed with some kid.

Instead of awkwardly standing around, Kobe finally decided to sit down. He sat down on a seat which was directly across from where Joel was sitting down. Kobe's eyes though, were on Berlin. He knew the boy was shoved right into an uncomfortable situation, Kobe only planned to watch and see what he would do on his own in such a situation. Though, he was surprised when saw Berlin place himself right next to the girl who insulted him. He quickly glanced at Joel who only gave a slight confused shrug when he met Kobe's gaze. Surely this kid wasn't that dumb right? The whole group sort of tried to pretend to be forming awkward conversions once again to get back to how things were before the interruptions. Kobe felt as if maybe he should be the one to break the tension, but Berlin took the opportunity before he had the chance. No one seemed to be expecting the words that came out of the boy's mouth because the group seemed to fall completely silent. Kobe for one, tried his hardest not to look as surprised as he was by the remark. The girl seated by Berlin looked at the boy with a look of disbelief. She was obviously flustered and she tried to think of a snarky comment to come back at him with. "You little..." She hissed through grit teeth before quickly turning her head to Kobe. "Aren't you gonna do something?" She asked, throwing her hands up in exaggeration. Kobe only lifted in eyebrow in confusion. "About what?" He asked, pretending to be completely oblivious to what was going on between the two. It wasn't like Berlin was some dog and Kobe was the owner. Even though he had acted as if that were the case multiple times. That only seemed to fuel the girls frustration causing her to raise her voice "About him!" She said as she aggressively pointed back to Berlin. Kobe could only smirk as his eyes trailed from her to Berlin. "Him? What? I can't stop him from speaking his mind." He simply responded with a shrug. Her jaw dropped and she held an over exaggerated expression of disbelief when Kobe nor anyone else would come to her defense. She quickly shot Berlin a glare before quickly making her way to her feet. Joel must of been right when he said she had one too many drinks because she was struggling to stand straight in her heels. "Don't get all cocky because someone has your back. Doesn't change the fact someone like you doesn't belong here." She hissed before finally taking her leave and stomping away.

Silence hung in the air for a moment as everyone exchanged awkward glances. Kobe thought maybe he should just take the boy and go back to the dorm already. His thought was cut off though when the sound of someone in the group started laughing. Kobe looked up to see Joel almost in tears over how hard he was laughing. "Jeez Berlin, I didn't think you had it in you to go against someone like her." He said as he tried to catch his breathe. He seemed to have relieved some of the tension in the group because the others began to smile and laugh lightly as well.
"Yea, you really put her in her place."
"Did you see the look on her face? It was hilarious."
"Damn man, you sure do have some balls."
All different voices arose from the group as people seemed to get more lively once the awkward atmosphere had faded out. Kobe couldn't help but sigh out in relief and let a smile creep on his lips as well. He stood up and swiftly took the place of the girl beside Berlin. He placed a hand on the boys head and ruffled his hair. "Who knew you had it in you. Good going. He said with a smirk. To be honest, he half expected the boy to and leave the group, maybe beg to go back to the bar. Or at least sit down in silence. The kid seemed to have more of a bite than expected. What was also a little bit unexpected was Kobe's not-so-mean attitude around Berlin at the moment. Though, it was easy to say it was due to his definitely more than buzzed state right now.

First there was silence. Everyone at the table simple peered at him and the tension on the room was palpable. Berlin had expected a negative reaction, but this non-reaction was somehow worse as it left him to guess what was going on in everyone’s mind. The girl looked just about ready to strike him for his insolence and it convinced Berlin to lean away slightly in case she was about to resort to violence. She did the second worst thin by calling Kobe into the melodrama, who Berlin knew he couldn’t defend himself from in any imaginable situation. In an unexpected turn of events, however, his roommate showed no interest in getting involved and shrugged her off and took his side. That’s right, Akiyama actually sided with him after he’d just insulted the girl he was probably planning on taking home. Berlin’s eyes widened in surprise, but he said nothing. She stood up and tossed him one last jab before wobbling away from the table, hitting him in the jugular with the reminder that he didn’t belong here. It stung, yes, but no response was better than trying to get the last word in.

The sound of laughter caught him off-guard. Berlin’s eyes shot to look at Joel, who commended his resolution with amusement. After a moment of sheer confusion his lip quirked at the corner into a bashful smile of relief– this wasn’t going to get him sent home like he had planned, but he was happy about the outcome. Joel set the tone and soon enough the others at the table chimed in in agreement, egging him on for talking back. Berlin decided that he liked Joel he was gratuitously nice and he liked the sound of his laughter, not to mention he was good-looking. Not as handsome as Kobe but his personality was carried him the rest of the way. How were all the rich people this pretty? He had never been in a situation where he had managed to land a good first impression on so many people at once. Or… ever. It would be temporary, no doubt about it, but for now he could enjoy the feeling of being welcomed even if he was still intimidated by them.

Kobe took a seat next to him and ruffled his hair, making him grateful that the lights were colorful at the room was dark because his ears were warm with a blush. This side of Akiyama was alluring to put it simply. Seeing how affable he could be when Berlin finally ceased to piss him off made him think that this is how he wanted his roommate to be all of the time. This Kobe was a Kobe he could see himself actually holding a conversation with, or spending time with, or leaning onto, or holding– nope, too far. Whatever shred of hope he had of crossing that line with his roommate had to stay back in the men’s bathroom of this club right where he left it. It was a moment of lunacy.

Time went by at a strange pace in a place like this. Berlin had lost himself in the conversation– even though he wasn’t chiming in all that much this was above his usual level of participation. He mostly laughed when other laughed, nodded to cue that he was listening when spoken to, and took it up a notch whenever Joel was the one doing the talking. The group drank and talked about school and their lives outside of it. The way they spoke of luxuries such as travel, cars, weekend houses, and private events with so-and-so’s son and so-and-so’s daughter like it was routine had him in quiet awe. The entire time he hoped with fingers crossed that they wouldn’t ask about his own home life because their second-hand car and two-bedroom rental apartment had no place in this corner of the world. In fact, he was just now realizing that was a conversation he never wanted to have with anyone from school– it was outright embarrassing. They would find out he was lower class with ease, no doubt about it, but at least he could spare them the details.

At some point or other he wound up with another drink in his hand and sipped it slowly, not feeling good about turning down the generous gesture but also weary of his intake. It was impossible to tell how late it was, but a yawn told Berlin that his night was reaching its end whether he and Kobe wanted it or not. He pulled out his phone to check the time on the screen: half-past three. “s**t” they had class tomorrow–… well, technically today. He was planning on getting some reading done during breakfast but now he wasn’t so sure that would be in the cards. Why was he the only one that seemed to have any concern about staying up this late and drinking on a school night. Berlin stuck his phone back into his pocket and put his drink down on the table, turning to Kobe and speaking in a low voice to keep his word private to the rest “hey, um, I’m really tired. Can we head back now?” He hoped Kobe was still riding on his good mood and that the gentle tone he’d taken would be good enough to persuade the other. Even though his roommate had been drinking all night, he was good at keeping his composure so Berlin was left to wonder how drunk he was exactly. “We have to be up early tomorrow” he added, hoping a reminder would advocate for his case.

xxx Any tension that was surrounding the two boys since they met had seemed to vanish. Sure it was most likely temporary and they would probably fight like cats and dogs the moment they were sober once again in the morning. But for now, it was nice. And maybe it was just the alcohol, but Berlin seemed a lot more ...likable and maybe even cool. Well cool as in less of a nuisance than he had seemed to be. He directed his attention back to the boy when he began to speak. He looked at Berlin but could only see the parts of his face that were illuminated but the street lights that they passed. In fact like this, the other didn't look half bad, but maybe he could just blame that on the alcohol too. He noticed he was looking at the other for a second too long once he stopped speaking. He shifted his gaze before a smile tugged at the corner of his lips at the others remark. "I guess you got me there." He said following his words with a shrug. "And I guess she just wasn't my type." he teased back.

When he looked back at Berlin and noted his serious expression, he could feel a slight heat arise in his cheeks. Maybe he should of chosen a better way to word his tease. At this point he wasn't even 100 percent sure what he was implying, but the other didn't seem too bothered when he joked back. He shook off the thought and continued to listen to the boy as he spoke. "Hmm I suppose you're right about that one." Kobe replied with a shrug. He couldn't help but smirk at Berlins next comment and even raised an eyebrow at him. "An IOU huh? I'm not sure if that's good enough, I mean, you-" He was cut of by the sudden movement of the car stopping. when he looked out his window he noticed that they had finally made it back to their school. He slide the money to the cab driver before the two boys exited the car. The campus almost seemed dead, the only sound was the car pulling off then the familiar sound of crickets.

Kobe led Berlin back to their dorms, making sure the other didn't stumble over while still trying to make sure he didn't do the same. Once back in the room, Kobe let out a loud sigh of relief. "God, I'm tired." He said before throwing himself on a bed. Just as soft as he remembered. That was the one good thing about these s**t dorms, there was nothing better than getting drunk and crawling into the cloud like blankets. It was even better when you had someone in it with you. He thought beck to the girl in the bar and cursed himself not for at least trying to avoid the awkward situation that arose. He then turned his attention to Berlin, it would of been awkward anyways seeing as for her sudden distaste is the boy. Going to bed alone drunk was the worst. He huffed at the thought before leaning up in the bed. "Actually, I may need that IOU sooner than later." He said eyeing Berlin as his mind went back to his initial idea he had in the car before he was cut off. Though Kobe almost instantly regretted the words as soon as they came out. Drunk or not he couldn't ask Berlin to sleep with him. Sure, it implied nothing sexual but they were both guys and sleeping in the same bed? His face turned a heated shade of red at his thought.

Don’t last long? How long was he supposed to last? By the time they left the dorm he would usually be getting ready for bed, at this hour he could be on his third REM cycle of the night, and in just a handful of hours he would be waking up to start his review before classes. Berlin didn’t say anything in that regard but he was now more confused than ever as to how these people even stayed in school with habits like this. He was still oblivious to the hangover that would greet him the next morning, which would only come to add to his bafflement. There was moment of doubt where he thought Kobe would deny him and demand that they stayed longer, but his worry ceded when he saw him pull out his phone and call a ride. Thank goodness. Berlin was already count back in his head: they would probably arrive to school at 4, and if he got ready for bed quickly he could be asleep by 4:15, which means he would have a total of two hours and forty-five minutes of sleep to be up at 7:00 and use that hour to shower quickly and grab a quick breakfast before his first class at 8:00. The alcohol in his blood was giving him the confidence to tell himself that he had done late-night studying before so it wouldn’t be any different. Rough but doable. Boy, was he about to find out how wrong he was in the morning.

He stood up and felt the alcohol rush to his head for the second time tonight to a much lesser degree– maybe he was getting the hang of this. Berlin waved goodbye in the general direction of the table, not wanting to appear rude but also knowing that they were noticing Kobe leave, not him. As he was squeezing past the table Joel held up his fist to him which he instinctively bumped “likewise, have a good night.” That guy’s bright and friendly disposition left him in a good mood for his departure and he secretly hoped he would be able to see him again in the future.

In the car, Berlin caught up with how quiet the real world was compared to the venue they were in only moments ago. His ears were ringing and he wasn’t as drunk as he had been at one point but he also he wasn’t sober. He leaned into his seat and rested his head back, dreaming of a bed and a soft pillow. The dorm pillows were so soft. Berlin’s head rolled to the side to at Kobe as he spoke unexpectedly nice words about is performance tonight. His lips spread into a smile that bubbled into laughter as the other teased him for warding off the girl on the couches. “Sorry about that… although to be fair you didn’t really do much to hold her down” he teased back. He thought back to when his roommate had sided with him and pinpointed it as the moment he first saw another side of him. This side. The one that joked and and smiled and willingly engaged him in banter.

His laughter subsided, expression turning serious at the satirical remark coming from the other for a split second before he chuckled. “I’m afraid I’m not exactly equipped to compensate you” he joked, venturing to let his crude sense of humor show for the first time in Kobe’s presence. “I’m happy to sign an ‘IOU’ for now.” Berlin turned to glance out the windshield, noting how the landscape was slowly morphing into the radiant woods that surrounded their school to signal they were approaching the grounds.

xxx Any tension that was surrounding the two boys since they met had seemed to vanish.

So she wasn’t his type. There was some sort of odd relief in learning that, in knowing that Kobe still felt above going for a girl with a such a wretched personality. At the same time he knew he wasn’t much different, having a distasteful personality of his own, even if right this minute hat side of him wasn’t being coaxed out. For once they seemed to be bouncing off of each other nicely, working smiles and quasi-laughs onto their faces. Kobe had a handsome face, but something as simple as an amused expression on his features just turned him into something picture-perfect. What a view. The catch twenty-two about his roommate was in that whenever he wasn’t busy loathing whatever came out of his mouth or being terrified of him, he was struggling to hold back on liking him too much. This was proving to be a permanence of tension.

Berlin’s ears perked at what was about to be a response to his joking proposal, curious to know what Kobe thought he could possibly get out of him, but unfortunately the statement was cut short. The car came to a stop and so did Kobe’s train of thought. It was kind of disappointing to end the ride and have to tread back to their room where he would only be reminded of how little sleep he’d be getting for his second day of classes. That’s right– the second. That’s how long it took him to greatly dishonor the promise he’d made to himself of making the best of this opportunity. Knowing that turning on the light in the room would positively burn his eyeballs out of their sockets, Berlin chose to brave the dark for a few blind steps towards his desk lamp and lit the room in a warm glow just in time to catch sight of Kobe’s large frame gracefully land onto his mattress.

“I thought you said I had’t lasted long” he dared to teased, going to his closed to find something soft to wear to bed. “I’m ready to fall asleep…” he mumbled and fumbled with his shirt to replace it with a soft light cotton sweater giving Kobe his back. He hoped in time he would get used to changing in front of Akiyama. “Hm?” His head looked up to Kobe attention focused on the favor he was about to ask of him, but there was a heavy silence after the other’s initial start, leaving him hanging. Berlin was smart– he was good at putting together concepts with minimal information, he was great at pulling inferences from unlikely places. This logical muscle he had exercised in school for so long was now tangled and tripping with his personal wants and leading him to some very twisted reasoning. So twisted he had somehow taken Kobe’s inviting position on his own bed and his open-ended sentence and crafted permission to approach out of it.

“How soon?” He asked, swallowing thick. Berlin walked up to his roommate, sweatpants he hadn’t changed into still in hand. He made it close to his bed frame and could’ve stopped there but something went wrong and suddenly he was driven by his monkey brain to kneel on the other’s matters and sit back on his heels like an invasive little brat. Not only that, he had chosen to perch up in the space between the other’s long legs because apparently his drunk self was dead-set on getting his a** kicked. Kobe probably just wanted him to bring him a glass of water.

xxx Kobe rubbed his eyes in a tired manner before letting out an audible yawn. He looked back up at his room mate and could see his dim figure moving around near his closet. He smirked at the boys comment and let out a light chuckle. "Well, I mean, if I was a few more drinks in, I could've lasted all night." He said following his words with an assuring nod even though the other wasn't even facing toward him. He couldn't count on the number of times he had drunken the night away at parties. Hell, he just might of tonight if Berlin wasn't in the picture. Though, even now, he was pretty drunk. Not wasted, but he could tell he was gonna have a killer migraine tomorrow. But for now, he just felt light and at ease. Kobe looked back up to see his roommate's small figure once again fumbling around in attempt to change. He wondered how the boy would deal tomorrow. The first time drinking always brought the worst hangovers. Shrugging off the thought he shifted his gaze and looked down at his own clothes. He didn't feel like making the attempt to change. He stripped off his top layer of clothes, including his shirt but for the decency of his roommate decided to keep on his pants. Though it wasn't like the other would be able to see his in the dim lighting or care in the least. They were both guys after all.

There was a long, drawn out silence after Kobe's comment and he wished he could take it back before it had time to soak in the air even more. Though, he wasn't expecting Berlins verbal nor physical response. Kobe could brush off his words easy, Berlin probably had no assumption as to what was going on through Kobe's head. However, he second guessed himself when the others small frame began making it's way toward him. "Ah..Well." He murmured knowing there was absolutely no way to casually brush this off. He rubbed the back on his neck, almost admittingly feeling nervous about how the boy may react. He paused however when he felt the weight on the other on his bed. He looked at the boys soft features in the dim light coming from the lamp. He was swallowing hard as well at the compromising position they were both in. What in the hell was Berlin thinking?

Kobe knew the other must be pretty drunk to put himself in this kind of situation but Kobe must of been too because he went along with it. He leaned up and reached a hand out, placing it under the boys chin to lift his face. Like this, he could see all of Berlins features and as he noted before, they weren't bad. Maybe going along with his initial idea wouldn't be so bad. That of course could easily be blamed on the alcohol, but that wasn't really a passing thought right now. "You're asking me that, although when you make a face like that, it seems like you're the one really wanting something, huh?" He said in a lower tone, his gaze dead set on the boy while his hand still held him in place. "Like this you're really not so bad." He mumbled to himself. He had been in plenty on situations and positions like this with girls. Maybe that's why his body seemed to instinctively take over. He leaned forward and without out any foreseen warnings, pressed his lips against Berlin's. He caressed the others warm lips with his own for a period of time that seemed longer than reality. Out of no where though, he had a moment of realization and quickly moved back, removing his hand from the others chin. "I-I...uh.. He began to stammer with his cheeks lightly tinted red. He couldn't remember the last time he had felt so flustered or even showed it. Kobe didn't know what excuse to give to Berlin for doing it or even what excuse to give to himself for not hating it.

Kobe’s hands never failed to make him feel like there was electricity running through his veins at the slightest touch. When the other’s long fingers came up to tilt his head Berlin clenched his jaw in anticipation of violence, but was instead met with a gentle nudge upwards to face the light and those eyes of his. His roommate’s stare was so intense and up close it sent a shiver up his spine– they were the absence of color, a gaze of melting ice that made him feel bare despite being the more clothed between the two. His lips parted slightly as he stared back in drunken awe, eyes focused and observant. Kobe’s accusation sped up his heart rate, eyes turning downwards in admittance and shame all at once. He wanted Kobe and he was doing a very poor job at hiding it. However, things took a turn at the faint follow up that came from the young man. Berlin looked up again expectantly, leaning into the touch on his skin as the world around him unexpectedly rose to dizzying speed and before he could process what was happening their lips met.

It was just white noise. His mind came to a halt and sunk into the feeling of the kiss, eyes closing on cue, lungs failing to draw in a breath as he kissed back. It was hard to tell how long it lasted, but it was over too soon regardless. Berlin leaned forward to trail after Kobe as the other pulled away, opening his eyes only when he realized this was the end of it. Holy s**t. Clearly the surprise went both ways as his roommate was visibly reactive to his own actions– face tinted pink and words failing to form confidently on his tongue. In this light the room felt like a private corner of the universe where nothing was real and this wasn’t happening. “Shut up” Berlin commanded cuttingly, wary of whatever the other was thinking of saying by knowing it would make his regret about the situation palpable. He didn’t know why someone like Kobe would ever consider kissing him but he didn’t want to know because all possible answers reeked of drunken misjudgment and he hated to owe this moment to such a thing.

No, things had taken a weird turn into a realm beyond his understanding but he wasn’t ready to shake it off and pretend nothing had happened. Berlin’s hands rose to hold Kobe’s face in place as he leaned in to place a redeeming peck on his roommate’s lower lip. There, now they were even. “Goodnight” he muttered, moving back to slip of the bed. He tossed the sweater he had in his hand on to the ground carelessly and ripped the covers to his bed open, slipping between them without bothering to consider the fact that he hadn’t brushed his teeth. Right now he just needed to close his eyes and let the space between fade back into normal life because it would be dangerously easy to fool himself into thinking that kiss meant anything at all. This would all be a lot easier if it weren’t for Kobe’s radiating presence just a few feet away.

xxx The air around the two was thick in a sense, creating an awkward tension which already seemed to be a reoccurring event. Kobe was at a complete loss of words and couldn't seem to think of a single valid excuse for his actions. He drew his hands back to his side as brain scrounged for even the smallest of reasons, but didnt get far before Berlins words sliced through his thoughts. In any other situation, he might of just hit the boy for speaking to him in such a way, but instead he sat in silence. Maybe it was better this way. After all, the other must of been disgusted with what Kobe did.Though, he couldn't help but note Berlins reaction to the kiss. Berlin didn't push him away nor did he fight back whats so ever. In fact, Kobe could recall him kissing him back. He was taken from his thoughts once more when he felt a hand make contact with his face. Kobe was taken aback when the other gave his a light peck on his lip. Kobe could only hope his disbelief didn't show on his expression, even though he was unconsciously trailing his fingers on his lower lip in shock. He couldn't do anything but watch as the others small frame rose from his bed and made his way to his own. "Ah..yea.." He muttered in response to Berlin's 'farewell'

After Berlin was settled in bed, Kobe could do nothing but sit in place in the room that was now engulfed in a dense silence. He glanced over at where Berlin was lying before sighing and running a hand through his hair in a stressed manner. He wished more than anything he would be able to think of a valid excuse before morning came. He also wondered what the hell could be going through Berlins mind. Especially after being kissed by a guy. Though, the other didn't seem to mind, he kissed back after all. Kobe wondered if maybe if the other liked guys perhaps? He shook the thought from his head, after all Kobe didn't even like guys so this was just as big of a confusion to him as it probably was to the other. He groaned in frustration before leaning back in his bed. Jeez his mind was filled with pestering thoughts, though none of them seemed to come up with a reasonable explanation for either of the boys actions. Well, to be fair they were both pretty drunk, but Kobe had been drunk more times than he can remember but never recalled kissing another guy. Finally he decided to declare his mistake as a drunk slip up and just end the night. He crawled under his covers and tried his hardest to push his thoughts aside so he could at least try and fall asleep.

-Time Skip to Morning-

The two boys room was softly lit with the light of the rising morning sun. There wasn't much noise in the room, well minus Kobe's snores which were borderline obnoxious. Then out of the blue, a loud noise rings throughout the once quiet room. Kobe groaned and rolled over to find out what the noise was, and in barely woken state saw Joel was calling him. He signed and leaned up in his bed in a slow groggy manner. Though the moment he sat up, he could feel a sharp pain in his head and an almost fatigued like feeling in his body. He knew this feeling all to well and could easily admit it was his least favorite part about drinking. Kobe rubbed his eyes which slightly burned from his lack of sleep before pressing his phone to ear. "Yea?" Kobe answered in a voice sounding rough and deep from just waking up. "Hey! Where are you? Class is gonna start in like 10 minutes! Don't tell me you couldn't handle your alcohol last night?" Joel said in a chipper voice that was none the less annoy this early in the morning to Kobe. "Of course I could handle it..But, Im just gonna opt of today. My head is killing me." He said admittingly as he rubbed his temples. "You sure don't change. Anyways, I'll get you the notes so sleep well princess!" Joel cheerfully spoke before hanging up before Kobe even had the chance to snap at him for calling him 'princess.' "That a**." Kobe muttered before tossing his phone on the bed beside him and leaning back down on his bed. His head throbbed with a killer migraine, and not only that, but he could remember every single detail of last night. He groaning once more, this was gonna make for a long day.

Berlin woke up to the sound of his alarm going off on the pillow next to his head. He groaned and took the outdates device, opening his eyes just enough to see the screen and turn off the vile sound. He sighed, filled to the brim with a nauseating feeling and a heaviness behind his eyelids that was gluing him to his bed. His hand rose to rub his eyes, but his movements slowed down gradually until his arm fell limp once again and without being able to fight it he drifted back to sleep still dressed as he was the night before.

There was no telling what time it was when the sound of Kobe’s voice shook him from sleep again. At first his brain tried to fight it and sleep through the sound, but as the words sank into his brain he began to realize what was going on: it was Tuesday, the sun had risen, and he was still in bed. Berlin shot up to his on his bed suddenly, scrambling around the sheets to find his phone so he could check the time. No no no, this wasn’t happening– it was happening. “s**t” he hissed at the sight of the number on his screen. Sheets were tossed to the side roughly as he swung his legs over the edge of the bed and moved to stand, but just as he was about to rise a sickening feeling struck him. “Oh God…” he moaned, closing his eyes and clutching the bed to stop the room from spinning. Point taken, he had to move slowly if he ever wanted to make it out of this room.

He stood up slowly and dragged his feet to the bathroom to attempt a shower, closing the door behind him and turning on the water cold hoping it would help him wake up. At first it seemed to be going well, he stood under the stream and scrubbed his face gently, taking his time even though he ached to hurry and get to class. This was only the second day, it would speak ill of him not to show up to his classes and potentially bias his teachers against him. He couldn’t afford that, he needed to excel, it was all part of the agreement that allowed him to be in this school in the first place. Berlin dropped the soap the moment his body unwittingly gagged out of thin air. Oh. He held on to the tiled wall and tried to convince himself he wasn’t about to hurl, but his hopes were thwarted when he involuntarily gagged a second time. He was forced to exit the shower with the water still running and dripping from his body as he dropped to his knees and made it to the toilet just in time to empty the contents of his stomach.

****

Soapy lather bubbled on the bathroom floor as he panted and flushed the toilet for the third time since he started this shower. He felt week, dry, and his head was throbbing with evil pangs of pain. There was no fighting it. Class should’ve started by now and he hadn’t even been able to leave this bathroom. Berlin stood up and turned off the shower, reaching for his towel and drying himself off before reaching for his toothbrush and brushing his teeth viciously twice back-to-back.

Feet shuffled on the floor languidly as he exited the bathroom, hair still dripping water, towel wrapped around his hips, and lied back down on his unmade bed. “Morning” he mumbled quietly, staring up at the ceiling as the water seeped into his mattress and his skin turned cold at being air-dried. He was so tired and in so much pain it was hard to believe he wasn’t about to die. He couldn’t even think about getting up and drying off properly, nevermind getting dressed. Instead, he patted the mattress until he felt his comforter and pulled a corner haphazardly over his body, feet still sticking out. "Take it you're not going to class?"
