The Eight, Powers of The Angels
A powerful story regarding the destinies of several humans thrust with the task of saving the universe, with a twist. [Updates delayed]
Chapter 4: James And His Power [EDIT]
James felt the snowball hit the back of his head. "Hey! Who did that?!" HE turned around sharply and stared down at his younger brother Simon. He was half of James's height and acted twice James's age. "i should have guessed it was you, certin."
"Aw, don't act so stuck up. It was only harmless fun," Simon pointed out. He kicked at the soft snow with a green boot. "Anyways, Mom told me to tell you that you're suppsoed to take over Duncan's shift. You're the one to be teaching the newbs how to ride slopes."
James cried out in frustration. He was always taking over someone's job around the Ski Lodge. His parents claimed it would put character into him. James beleived that it was a waste of time since he couldn't be paid for all the work he did. He couldn't have his weekends planned out since something there always came up sooner or later.
They really need to stop relying on me, James thought. I have a life and I want to be able to use it someday. Outwardly he sighed. "Alright, tell her I'll be up the gondola car in a sec." James turned his back around and walked off. He was headed down the slope in the opposite direction of the gondolas. He wanted thinking time and needed his space.
James kept walking and soon came to the river that flowed down the mountain. It was his safe haven from the world of work and school. For some reason he always felt calm near the water and always loved it up here. One thing he noticed was that his emotions seemed to be tied with the body of water he was near. On a trip to the Atlantic over the spring holidays, James had an angry disposition at the same times as the storms that hit. The river he was near now flowed gently but steadily and helped him think over all his problems.
"Sometimes I wish I could just stop everything," James mutttered.
The air around him got colder just then. James shivered and wrapped his arms around himself. He looked down at a sudden cracking sound and stared in wonder. The flowing water of the river was slowly freezing over. James stepped back and instantly fell. The water nearest him was almost frozen over when the the ice closest to him became a geyser and exploded onto the sandy river sides.
With this happening, James scrambled up and ran as fast as he could. He peeked behind him to the water somehow trailing him and again he tripped. James looked behind himmin horror as the water rushed up in front of him......and did nothing.
