The Mysteries are solved once again!
Harry Potter
I haven't read the first one for many years now, (first one being The Sorcerer’s Stone,) and I just found out that Dumbledore set Harry up to go and fight Lord Voldemort, by himself. I guess when I was younger I either over looked this and thought that JKR was kidding, or maybe I just skimmed over it because I was close to being done with the book and I thought that nothing important was going to happen... who knows. It just astonishes me that I never knew of it before!

I'm sure many of you know this but I just wanted to speak out. Or perhaps I'm just too excited for the next book to come out. That's why I ended up rereading the first one to begin with. I plan to read them all before the seventh book! (Or maybe I’m bored.)

The scene takes place after Harry came in contact with LV, he woke up in the hospital wing and after talking to D, Ron and Hermione come in to get the whole story. After Harry tells them what happens he asks R and H what happened to them after they parted.

Hermione starts to explain:

“…we were dashing up to the owlery to contact Dumbledore when we met him in the entrance hall – he already knew – he just said, ‘Harry’s gone after him, hasn’t he?’ and hurtled off to the third floor.”

“D’you think he meant you to do it?” said Ron. “Sending you your father’s cloak and everything?”

“Well,” Hermione exploded, “if he did – I mean to say- that’s terrible – you could have been killed.”

”No, it isn’t,” said Harry thoughtfully. “He’s a funny man, Dumbledore. I think he sort of wanted to give me a chance. I think he knows more or less everything that goes on here, you know. I reckon he had a pretty good idea we were going to try, and instead of stopping us, he just taught us enough to help. I don’t think it was an accident he let me find out how the mirror worked. It’s almost like he thought I had the right to face Voldemort if I could…” (302)

So therefore D lead Harry to LV.

And to make my point even more apparent… is that Quirrel was the evil one, right? He wanted to use the stone for selfish reasons. However, in order to get the stone from the mirror, a person had to look in it and wanted the stone but who didn't want to use it at all; which leads to how Harry got it. Three first years could get though all the other obstacles… but the last one was the one that D set up so even if LV got to the mirror he wouldn’t have been able to get it because he wanted to use it for himself. This makes it even more obvious. LV never would have gotten it even if Harry showed up or not. So in away D made sure nothing would go too wrong.

Am I making any sense here? Did you fully get the fact that Dumbledore set Harry up? Any comments about Harry Potter?

Edit: to replay to what Lemongrass said, D wanted Harry to come face to face with LV so he wouldn't become afraid of him like everyone else. He needed to comfront him so he could understand the reason why everyone is so fond of him. It makes it more of a reality for Harry. I also think that by doing this is strangthens Harry.

Edit: Good question Lemongrass. See, D wanted Harry to come face to face with LV so he wouldn't be afraid of him like everyone else. He needed to confront him. It makes it more of a reality for Harry. I also think that by doing this it strengthens Harry, so in the later books he can fight against LV again, (which he does in every book, whether it be physically or mentally.) But these are all my reasons personally.

In the book Harry states that he thought D wanted to give Harry a chance, and that D knew Harry was going to try and stop LV from getting the stone anyway so D thought that it would be ok to just let Harry do it by himself. He even helped Harry along by letting him find the mirror and telling him how it worked.

I hope I made things a bit clearer.

I think you're making sense here.
It does look like Dumbledore set up Harry.. to me anyways.
I haven't read the first one through in awhile now.
But I kinda remember it from the movie... did they put it in there?
I don't remember, maybe I'm thinking of something else.
But why would Dumbledore set up Harry in the first place? I guess I didn't get it. :/
