A GRIMOIRE OF FORBIDDEN SUTRAS
SCROLL IX: DARK SECRETS
She had a secret. A secret that embarrassed her. A dark secret.
There's a thing with dark secrets, they stain all they touch.
Normal secrets may be a nuisance, even a pain, but dark secrets have special qualities that make them both unpredictable and poisonous, venom for the mind, the heart and sometimes even the soul.

He had a secret too. A little and foolish secret that to cover itself (ashamed of other, bigger secrets) decided to put a mask on its face. The mask worked so good, that soon the little secret seemed like a real secret that even was able to change from light to dark.

You all know how things go.
He met her. The old tale. Boy meets girl. Let's go for coffee, let's chat a bit, if we get along maybe we could be more than just friends, we'll share experiences, comfort each other, have sex, fall in love... c'mon, this can even end with a new and happy couple doing the "forever thing" if we play it right.

Whatever. They played their cards.
She was a beauty. Great face, big eyes, awesomely kissable lips. Oh, not to mention her fabulous, round, delicious a**.
And he was both a gentleman and a rogue. Charming, fun, intelligent, cocky in a really great way. Damn, if I were gay I'd date him!
It was a two sided no-brainer. They had to fall for each other. And they did.

But there's something else about dark secrets. They seem to have an intelligence of their own. An evil intelligence. So, her secret did what it had to do: Convinced her of sharing it.
"Go on," the dark secret whispered, "if you really love him, open yourself and tell him all about me. We'll be nice friends, I promise."
And she believed the secret. Maybe that's not the most sensitive, smart or practical thing to do when it comes to dark secrets, but you know that's how it works some times. Those damn critters know how to silver tongue people.
And so she told him all about her secret.

He heard her secret and thought that it was unfair, she having a dark secret to share and he sharing nothing, and his little masked secret agreed. So the little secret disguised as dark, and he shared it with her.
She felt better at first. He didn't just understand her secret, but even opened himself. But as the days passed, she felt that his secret was darker than hers. And this feeling grew inside of her, filling her with cold, dark, slimy ideas that clouded her love for him.
And the same happened to him, but worse, because he said to himself that at least his dark secret wasn't more than a construct, while hers was real.

He said the truth to her; he did it because he wanted to be better than her, free of the burden of a dark secret. And the truth hurt like hell.
She felt the anger of his every word, she felt the betrayal and the deception, she felt that something had gone wrong but couldn't find what it was.
You don't need me to say that they broke up and that they did it badly.

Two years later, he met her again. In fact he visited her. She was in a mental institution trying not to hurt herself, heavily medicated in an attempt to cure her fractured self. Or so the medics said.
They talked for a while. She mentioned that now her dark secret wasn't anymore a thing of two. She had revealed it to a handful of doctors, and for that she apologized.
At first he didn't understood why the apology. Well, she was crazy, but anyway. But then she mentioned how ashamed she was since her finding out that his secret wasn't real. When she discovered that, she realized that all the ideas she made about his dark secret had been not only unfair, but applicable only to a real secret like hers, and so, all that negative stuff she felt about him... she started to feel it about herself.
And so she learned to hate what she was: A tainted, disgusting, unworthy creep undeserving of being loved or even accepted by anyone.

He left the institution, feeling like a scolded kid.
And then he realized that now he had a dark secret: He destroyed the life of a loved one because he couldn't endure the burden of her secret.
And at the same time, the little masked secret greeted its new and really dark brother. Now they were ready for a poisoning party which beginning was in regret and shame... not bad for an impersonator and a baby.
