So I've been babbling on and on about being excited about our kitchen reno, I thought I'd better put some pics on here for people to ooh and aah over...so here's a little story about our new kitchen...
These are huge pictures - I apologise, but I had a ton of trouble with photobucket - I just gave up and put them on huge.
Here's day one - before anything was touched. Old fridge, crappy floor, tacky handles. Tired kitchen. Notice three shelves over the fridge. That is only 50" high, and you can't get a fridge that short nowadays!
The cupboard over the fridge was cut off first - this is the whole reason we started this process. The cupboard was too low, and we couldn't get a new fridge, and our old one was slowly dying. Just because we needed a new fridge, we are getting new windows, floor, painting the cabinets, and new backsplash. Yay!
Mike took off the old - plastic - that's right, plastic tiles. They were white in the picture, but they'd been painted many coats of different colours over the years. Originally they were yellow and black - bumblebee kitchen!
We never had a light over the sink, even though we have the alcove for it. It makes such a huge difference now!
Old linoleum tiles under our no-wax floor that we could never get clean. Nice yellow and black!
Working on the tiles. I like them more and more each day!
This rotten floor was under the fridge - from an obviously very old fridge leak. It had been covered by linoleum, tile and no-wax flooring! Finally we decided to repair it!
The tiling is all finished. I love the blue!
This is the repaired floor that was under the old fridge. Much safer now!
This is the completed floor, morning of July 18th. The quarter round went in today after this picture was taken.
This is the new fridge on the completed floor - July 18th!
We're still waiting for the windows to be ready, but we are replacing those too, and I will be repainting the cabinets and all the trim in the room over the next few days, as well as replacing the hardware. As more gets finished, I'll post a few more pics. I can't wait until we are done, and I can put all my stuff back in the cupboards and actually cook some good food again!
