Okay, if you want information about where I was, then click this. That's information on Doe River Gorge. Located in Elizabethon, Tennessee. It's a Christian camp that seems fearful to the eye, but totally easy, safe, and fun. There's a lake there to swim in each day. And in the lake is a blob, slide, three ziplines, diving dock, water trampoline, volleyball net, and basketball hoop.
But, what Doe River Gorge is most famous for is their train. And their train rides around the gorge. It hugs onto the edge of the trail. Seeming like you'll fall off any second. The mountain used to be mined for iron.
The food in the cafeteria is great, too! It's awesome! When waiting for breakfast I did some air banding with my room mates. cool We were awesome. I was lead guitar until solos that my counselor took. Another dude was bass guitar and rythm guitar. We had an excellent drummer and lastly a super keyboardist. cool Most songs we played were by Relient K. 3nodding
Lunch was first come, first serve since everyone was at their activities. 3nodding The campers had to clean the tables every single meal, every single day. For dinner you had to be one of the cleanest rooms. The best you got was a 140. You needed to clean toilets, the sink, the floor (bathroom and cabin), mirror, door window, showers, beds, trash cans, and door mats. 3nodding I cleaned my own bed, the toilet (just outside), door mats, door window, the sink sometimes, mirror one time, and the floors one time. If I wasn't there then they would have been one of the last people to of gone to dinner. 3nodding
Now for the activities! blaugh On Monday I rappelled from a 90' high rock. Very hard if you walk it. sweatdrop Tubed in the rain at about 170 inches and higher Tuesday. pirate It was freezing and dangerous. I cleaned the tables that day at lunch because I felt like it. I was cold and tired, too. sweatdrop The hot shower that day felt great. heart Wednesday we did The Bride, A.K.A. "The Way". This was a climb of netting up to a small platform as the width of the length of your foot. But it can fit 3-4 people on it. Held by a wire above you, you walk across a bridge that's as wide as your foot and as long as about 50 yards or 100 feet. Then a platform that can fit about 20 people on it (in space) you rappel from that in mid-air which is a lot more fun than on the rock. Finally, we did the Via Ferada. Meaning "The Iron Way". We had to cross the river, or creek on steroids, first then traverse about 100 square feet of rock. 3nodding We do a small zipline to safety and eat our bag lunches. Last, but definitely not least, is the Adventure Race. We do all of our activities together. We were at the octaball court and did a quick, small sprint to The Bridge. One guy had to go all the way to the end and back. We said his girlfriend was watching, which she was, and he got faster. rofl She blushed, too! rofl We ran down to a four foot fall and two people fell down. I did that with another guy. Third, we ran all the way to the rock rappel who had to run up a huge hill I suspect and do it. Then, we run to the zipline gazeepee set up the last three people who run up the somewhat same hill as the rappeller and zip down. After they unharness we do a last sprint down the mountainous hill, past the lunch hall, past the kitchen, past the big top (where service is held), and back to the octaball court to finish in 36 minutes and 21 seconds. The reason we were so slow is because we had some people in front of us that were only ten minutes behind us. stare The whole thing was about one mile long and easy to run since we rested a lot. 3nodding
Our cabin won and our girl counterparts won, too. 3nodding There were three tracks with 4-6 teams. Alpha, Beta, Charlie, Delta (me in track 3), Echo, and Foxtrot. And in those are a boy and girl counterparts. Gosh, I had a crush on this cute girl in our girl counterparts and... nevermind.
I stayed there from Sunday afternoon to Friday noon. My counselor was Daniel Teague. Nicknames for him: Captain T, Teague, and Danielle (for our cabin). Our S.W.A.T. was Tim Boswell. He's the only guy lifeguard I think (lucky). Our L.E.A.D was Bradly. The girls' counselor was Hillary. And the girls' S.W.A.T was Rachael who a lifeguard, too. Daniel Teague goes to Furman University of Christian Knigts (yes, I know the acronym for that). The only left to say is that I went to sleep at midnight and woke up at 8:00 in the morning. I was finally not the loudest snorer, but instead contributed to the symphony of snores. mrgreen And that's about it. Thank you for reading. pirate
Random pictures of the place:
Here is one picture of the open railing of the train. This is a picture that has the zipline gazeepee in the background very top. And this is a picture of random people. But the Mountain Meadow lodge is to the left and that's where I stayed. A picture of two other people with the cafeteria behind them.
