A GRIMOIRE OF FORBIDDEN SUTRAS
SCROLL XIII: DELAY
Hi. You don't know me yet, but I lived with you for some time. I used to be you.
I'm sending this message from the future. Twenty years ahead of your time. The scientists invented this thing to send these messages into the past and I would love to tell you how it works, but the truth is that I'm not very sure. Out of this and a digital web like you never imagined, everything is just the same.
Humans still die of cancer and AIDS, there's not a vaccine for the flu, no flying cars or teleporters, the Moon hasn't been inhabited and Mars hasn't been visited by an astronaut. All our dreams about the future were just that, dreams.

Oh, and talking about dreams.
If I'm right, you're 8-years-old right now. I know you go to bed thinking about that girl... what's her name? Yeah, Veronica. She's a fair girl and very cute indeed. Right now she has three healthy and pretty kids. But know what? None of them is yours. You told her once what you felt, but she was already dating another guy and gave you the old "I love you like a bro".
She'll be just the first girl in a row of unfortunate and short love stories, so get used to it.

You've been dreaming about becoming a superhero. Let me tell you something very clearly: Superheroes are not real. Later you'll dream with finishing the University, but you won't.
There's an accident, you kill a family in a car crash. Too much for the old superhero stuff, isn't it? After two years in prison you get out and met a girl, you two have an affair but there's another accident that you name Robert.
Little Bobby and your traumatized and guilty mind keep you out of school forever.

Your work wasn't a fancy one. You packed and delivered stuff. Boring, with a poor pay and no future. After three years they got you fired and there was no way to get another job. Depressed and full of debts you found yourself feeling more and more attracted by the luring spell of alcohol and pills... then you'll move into harder junk.

Your girl and boy will abandon you. It's not their fault, really. There wasn't a real connection in the first place and they stayed more than I thought they would.
I also thought that I was used to be alone, but that's not true. My depression got worse and... well... I was walking on the street and it's pouring out there, then I saw this booth, a dry, covered place to cover myself from the rain...
All I can remember every time I felt really bad about life is the rain. Just like now.
Whatever, I was inside the booth and then saw that it was one of those things to send messages to the past. You put a bill in the machine, then talk, and your voice will be heard in the past by the person you pick in a range of up to 90 years back. The only little problem is that the message is delivered in the form of ideas, visions, dreams and the like. So, this is not very reliable... but it's okay...

I know you're eight... at nine you'll see a perfect day and you'll feel in peace, there'll be sun, butterflies and cotton candy. Veronica will be there, feeling sad. You'll talk to her and will tell her that everything will be alright and that she must not feel bad because that's a lovely day.
Please, when you tell that, could you also give her a hug? And do the same for every one of the other girls to come, and for all your friends and your parents. It's not for them, but for me. As I told you, I've lost it all and... I need that hugs...

Well, I hope you have a better life than me. The scientists say that's impossible, that the messages can't fix the past and the only effect is the deja vĂș feeling while sending to oneself... I'm feeling it right now... but I really hope and wish that you do it better.

Take care, boy.

Farewell.
