He picked up his blindness from Toph and is the heir of Earth Kingom that she ruled over once. He's kept in the walls of the palace, but, like his grandmother, he snuck out to the underground battles. He sees with his earthbending as well. He's now left the palace to get away from all of the rules and obedience that he hates to follow.
