The house wasn't big. Soku knew that. Somehow, he was aware of the fact that this house was so much like the one he and Nake shared.
Nake never did have ears.
That's right. He was different, too.
No one - no one in Soku's world had hair that was a solid color. It always had streaks, or tips - like Soku's own. But Nake's hair was a solid black, and so very smooth... Soku always did love running his hand through that black hair.
"you can sit over there if you'd like," Kane stated before remembering that Soku did not know the language. Therefore, pointing to a chair, he stated, "Sit," and hoped that the cat-eared boy would realize what was needed of him.
Soku followed the motion of the hand with his eyes, nodded, and settled down on the chair. At least the furniture in this world was similar. His tail twitched slightly at the sound of the closing door - Kane gave the little girl food, and she went away.
Just like Nake... Nake would have done the same.
It annoyed Soku, the way his memories came back in snapshots, how he knew one thing or another - how he just knew.
A yawn, and Kane turned around. Soku was slumped in the chair, asleep. With a smile, Kane went back to cleaning.
Soku purred, feeling Nake's warmth beside him. Reaching out, he wrapped his arms around the older boy, snuggling closer.
"Soku?" Nake's voice was sleepy - apparently, he had been asleep.
"Yes?" he replied, nuzzling the base of Nake's neck affectionately.
"I dreamed of something strange... another world, where there were people like me. I think it was called Earth..."
"Do you want to go there?"
"It's possible?"
"Yes. I can take you, but..." Soku shrugged slightly, nuzzling Nake's neck yet again. "It's likely I'll lose my memory, or we'll get separated, or both."
"I'll find you. If anything happens, I promise you I'll find you and keep you safe." Nake sounded worried.
"I trust you. You know that. You wanna go now?"
"Yes."
Soku woke up abruptly. Nake is in this world - searching for him. He needed to get outside, find Nake - he definitely had more of a chance. He knew magic beside world travel - and finding someone would be easy.
But Nake had the same magic. He should be able to locate Soku as easily as Soku could locate him.
Magic. Soku remembered how to use it. Never did he lose track of that.
"Wasn't there a spell to learn a language?" he muttered, looking around for Kane. The spell would require the cooperation of a native speaker.
The sound of a door opening and closing, footsteps, then Kane's voice. "Soku? You awake? I got food, if you're hungry..."
Soku's ears perked. He smelled something - and it smelled good. Ontop of that, there was the chance of learning the language now, without further delay.
Kane walked into the room seconds later, setting a bag onto the table infront of Soku. "It's sushi - store bought, but sushi all the same."
Soku instinctively reached out for Kane's hand, taking it into his own, and bringing it up to his lips to run his tongue along the back of the older's palm. It was a way of thanks back in his own world, and it would also provide the contact necessary for the spell to work.
"Thank you," Soku stated, saying the words of an unfamiliar tongue perfectly.
A blink from Kane. I shouldn't have surprised him like that... "I have gathered your language - by magic. Don't mind it too horribly much... I am from another world; it seems, however, that my beloved is from this one."
"Your.. Beloved?"
"Yes - Nake. You sounded surprised when you heard me say his name. Tell me: do you know him?"
"Nake was my twin. I take it that, with the news you bring, he still is."
"I don't think he remembers you. In fact, I don't think he remembers anything of this world. Like me - I lost my memory, temporarily, when I came here. Though it seems that he himself never regained his."
"Do you know where he is right now?"
"Searching for me. Therefore, I think we better stay put - and you tell me Nake's story, as you know it."
~*~
"Nake is the older one. Our mother died giving birth to me, and so we were orphans. We got money once a month from our father, but have never seen him face to face. And then, about two years ago, Nake simply disappeared. I was the only one that looked for him, but found no trace. I thought that perhaps he ran away - but why not take me with?" Kane had settled down across from Soku, leaning back in the chair.
Soku had been leaning on the table, his chin resting on folded hands. "It seems to me like Nake cast a spell without knowing. He has magic - did you know? Or, he did when he came to my world..."
"He never did fit in," Kane muttered softly before addressing Soku again. "Things used to happen whenever either one of us was around. Does that mean I have magic too?"
A smile on Soku's lips. "I could check, of course... But it would be dangerous to leave you in this world if you do - and it would be against the rules not to take you with me when I leave if I know for sure that you possess power. Are you sure you're willing to risk that?"
"I have nothing in this world. You saw the little girl - she's the only one that is acutely aware of my existence. No one else cares - not even the man I work for. He could find another easily. So, if I have magic, tell me."
Soku's eyes narrowed slightly as he leaned back.
"Um... Soku? Your pupils are vertical... Is that normal?" Kane questioned, staring.
"Yes, it is. Now, sit still for a second."
Another moment spend in regaining the concentration he lost, and a smirk ran across Soku's lips as he clearly saw the aura of magic that circled Kane.
"Kane... You, indeed, possess magic. Quite powerful magic, in fact."
~**~
For the past fifteen minutes or so, Nake had been desperately pushing his way through the unyielding crowds of people. He sensed Soku, he knew he did, but then Soku had moved, and then Nake could 'see' only something else, some other power. But magic of this level in this world? There as no one in the crowd of people that had any magic. What had Soku gotten himself into?
Nake was starting to panic. He shouldn't have told Soku about his dream. He shouldn't have said that he wanted to come here. It was because of him that Soku was here, and now at the mercy of another power.
Then, for a minute, there was a glimpse of Soku's magic, and Nake grabbed on to the thin thread like it was his lifeline. He wouldn't let go now, not until he found Soku, not until they were safely back in their own world.
There was a definite direction to Soku's 'scent', and Nake followed it, stalking and weaving through the dense crowd, agile as a cat.
~*~
A knock on the door, and Soku stood up, his ears perked and tail waving slightly - much like a dog's. "That would be Nake. 'Bout time he found me." With a smile, he walked to the door, and turned the knob, swinging the door open to face an astonished Nake.
"Soku?" Nake asked, questioning green eyes meeting smiling yellow.
"Yes, Nake. It's me, love," Soku replied, stepping forward to wrap his arms around the older boy.
A blush overtook Nake's face. "Soku... I was so worried about you. There is another here, with powerful magic he doesn't--"
"It's your twin, Nake. His name is Kane - and his magic just as impressive as yours."
"My... Twin?" Nake's eyes widened as Kane stepped into the hall.
Soku smiled, turning to Kane and switching to the language he gathered from the boy. "I was right. He truly doesn't remember.."
||That be all - for now. I promise I'll add more!
>__<
I cut out a whole long part of Kane explaining to Soku exactly what sushi was.
Felt like that was too much like 'me Tarzan you Jane' for this story.
.__.
Though some may disagree..||
