It all started the day of their grandfather’s funeral. Eva and Reina received a great inheritance. They received their grandfather’s house in OakSpring, a place with marvelous old houses, on the terms they allow Mr. Linden and his son to stay there.
Mr. Linden is a man who loves books. He lives in OakSpring with his son Thomas. Mr. Linden met Reina and Eva’s grandfather fifteen years before his death. They were both book lovers and they had an instant connection. Mr. Linden sold his bookstore to own a private library on Mr. McDowell’s property. They were close friends.
When they arrived at their new home they saw the old building and almost cried. Reina almost cried for such a horrible home and Eva for its beautiful architecture. They had always been completely different girls.
They were greeted by Mr. Linden and Thomas Linden.
“Hello. I thought you two would be here sooner,” Mr. Linden said as they ventured toward the main hall.
“Yeah we kind of got lost,” Reina replied truthfully.
It was already around dinner time when they got there.
“If you direct me to the kitchen, I shall prepare supper,” Eva said when she saw everyone looked famished.
Thomas then objected, “ Its your first night here. Why don’t we just eat out?” Eva’s response was, “I only trust my cooking.”
Thomas realized that she was perfect. Her long blonde-streaked silver hair shined in the sun, her blue eyes glowed brightly when they met his, her lips a soft light pink, and her skin pale yet elegant. Thomas himself was just a middle class gentleman. Short dark brown hair, hazel eyes, and a light tan skin color. Some one like Eva would never like him.
“Thomas will you show Eva to the kitchen?”
“Oh, yes father.”

On the way to the kitchen it was mostly quiet.
A few questions were asked by Thomas before Eva finally said ,“Look, I’ve seen it. You like me.” Thomas had no idea how she figured that out. He just asked ,“How did you know?”
Eva, in her regular calm voice, said, “So you admit to liking me.”
Thomas had been fooled into admitting his feelings, but he liked her even more.
Once they arrived in the kitchen, Thomas told her where everything was located. Then he asked, “So what are you making for dinner,”
Her response, “ You’ll see.”

Fifteen minutes later dinner was set.
“Hey sis, how’d you make this so fast?” Reina asked.
“I had Mr. Linden prep the meal before we arrived.”
Two hours before they had arrived Eva made a phone call to ask a favor of Mr. Linden. Mr. Linden agreed to her plan and he prepped the dish.

After supper Mr. Linden , Eva, Reina, and Thomas went to the library. There were many old books on the maple wooded shelves.
“You may all select one book to read for as long as it takes you to finish. Many of these books are in Latin and Greek so watch the text.”
“Its okay Mr. Linden. Reina and I learned ancient languages a while ago. At least I did. I think Reina was skipping out on classes.”
“Not funny Eva. It is impossible for me to read in any language except English. Mr. Linden what about this book?” Reina asked holding up a book.
“It’s a good book but it can cost one’s life. If you read it at midnight on a Sunday it could mean someone’s death.”

That night it just so happened to be a Sunday. Saree opened the book and began to read from it. She thought Mr. Linden’s warning was just for show but when she read from it she began to feel uneasy. He had warned her about the book and now it was too late.
Everyone was awoken by her scream. Mr. Linden rushed in to find her surrounded by a strange black misty cloud.
“Foolish girl!” Mr. Linden grabbed her from the mist at the risk of his own life. He saved her body, but her soul was gone.
With his last breath Mr. Linden shouted “THE BOOK OF PRAISE!”
Eva and Thomas looked horrified by what they just saw, but The Book of Praise was what they needed. They ran to the library and searched the shelves. They couldn’t find it anywhere. Finally they came across an old chest.
“What do you think?” Thomas asked.
“I have no idea. But we might find the answer here.”
They opened the chest. Inside was an old book. It was silver with gold trim.
“Can you read Latin fluently?”
“Yes. Very well.”
It was time. They reentered the room and read from the book. She spoke Latin so nicely. It was as if everything was falling together. The darkness was disappearing. The lights were visible and her sister was breathing with words of what she had seen.
“The lights were dark. I couldn’t breath. There were demons!”
It was okay now. Only Mr. Linden was gone. He had given his life to save Saree. He was brave to sacrifice himself to the darkness, but he was the fool. In the end Thomas Eva and Reina sold the books so the darkness would never overcome them again. Reina got half the money from the books and bought herself a new house. Eva and Thomas ended up becoming good friends and they soon moved in with Reina. Eva and Reina were grateful that they had the chances they did to meet Mr. Linden and Thomas. The book though was not so lucky. It was burned along with the house. The only book they kept was The Book of Praise.
