Chapter X
"Well Your Highness. Time to rise." She was too perky for me this early in the morning.
"Christ let me sleep!" I groaned.
"Sorry but you need to my lady." She gripped my arm and pulled me out of my bed.
"Oi! Hey, hey, hey!" I stumbled to my feet. She pulled my clothes off and helped my gown on.
"I can clothe myself you know." I snapped at her.
She sighed happily at her work. "Now we have to fix your hair."
I groaned again and was pulled over to a woman waiting for me. They combed and twisted my hair so many times I thought they'd pull out my hair. They finished my hair and let me look. It was in a bun letting the hair on the front side of my head dangle down.
"You look more like a woman."
It then clicked to me. "What year is it?" I looked at the woman panicking.
"It's 737 CC." She spoke shakily.
I realized that it's been 3 years since I set out for Tuor. Was I unconscious for that long?! I stumbled and fell back on the chair with a sigh. Kai was gone from my life forever. Tears started to swell in my eyes and I put my hands over my eyes.
"Don't worry my lady, you'll be fine in the ceremony." The girl that woke me up said while patting my shoulder.
"No I won't. I only wanted to do this so our Empire will be free. I had a lover before I came."
The girl put a hand over her mouth. "Are you the one that slayed all those Tuor soldiers?" She whispered.
I nodded at her.
"Wow! Aurora, you'll make a fine Queen. Though I hope you get rid of Aurel."
"I know."
"My name's Vinny. I want freedom as much as you do. But boy do I feel for you! I mean, Aurel is an old guy!"
We both looked at eachother and laughed.
"Well it's a good thing you aren't like one of those stuck up people." She spoke.
"I wasn't even born into royalty. I was an orphan all my life."
She blinked and stared at me intently. "how old are you?"
She made me think for a moment. "Ninteen."
"So young. I'm twenty-two!"
"Christ you looked like you're fourteen." I complimented her.
"Thanks. You're not bad yourself. No wonder Aurel wants you." She shivered at a dirty thought.
"How old is he anyway?"
"He's thirty!" She exclaimed and pulled out a head dress from a giant closet.
"Oh god!"
We both laughed again.
"Well we better put this on you." Vinny held up a large veil adorned with blue diamonds. She put it on my head.
"The chocobo feathers really make your skin more appealing." She smiled and batted the dangling yellow and orange feathers of the large bird. The trumpets went off then my fate was sealed.
"Good luck!" She shouted as two guards stood behind me and we walked out onto a large floating platform. Aurel was dressed in a blue robe smiling at me. My stomach flipped and churned while walking to the alter. The priest that was at the table with the ministers nodded at me. I sighed and stepped up onto the alter and felt Aurel grab my hands.
"We are gathered here today for this holy royal matrimony. Of these two people of the royal line of Spira. Prince Aurel and Princess Aurora."
I started to zone out and glanced over at the guards standing a few feet away from the alter. Aurel rubbed my knuckles and I growled under my breath.
"Do you Aurel take Aurora as your lawfully wedded wife?"
"I do." He spoke with a strong tone.
"And do you Aurora take Aurel as your lawfully wedded husband?" The priest turned to me waiting for my reply.
"...I do." I said painfully.
"by the power invested in me, you may now kiss the bride."
Aurel leaned over to me and pulled me close to him. I kept my arms stuck to my side and he kissed me rather roughly. I clenched my hands into fists trying everything in my willpower not to punch him. Then I heard the guards shout and struggle. My eyes shot open and looked towards the guards. Kai was trying to push them away to get me. I pulled away from Aurel roughly.
"Kai!" I shouted with my heart.
"Aurora!" He shouted back.
"Kill him! He has interrupted our ceremony!"
"No!" I shouted and ran off the alter and into the air, there was nothing under the giant chunk of land we called Spira.
"Kai, you're alive." I stuttered trying not to lose it. He kissed my lips and put his chin on the top of my head.
"What matters now is that you're alive. I was afraid I lost you forever."
"Get them!" A man shouted and Kai put me down grabbing my hand and ran. I tried my best to keep up with him. It was hard running in a long gown. When we came to an intersection I fell to my knees. he grunted and picked my back up on my feet. Tuor soldiers were gaining, we took the corner and entered a large room with only one platform. It was dark and no one would be able to see us. The lights snapped on making me jump and Kai held me to his chest. He growled under his breath looking at the soldiers. He turned his head and looked at me.
"Whatever happens. I want you to go on and remember me." He smiled at me with his blue eyes. I nodded my head and smiled back sadly. Gunfire filled the air as a sharp pain surged through my torso. I was perpetually falling again like that of my dream. Finally I hit the floor onto my back. Glancing over Kai was on his chest looking over at me. He moved his lips and motioned his fingers at me.
"Kai..." I managed to peep with tears flowing down the sides of my cheeks and onto the floor until I returned to my world of darkness once more.
