After the murder, it took my mom a good year to stand on her feet. She was very broken. All the damage, years of it. She was on her own for the first time without Ken. She stayed for many reasons. Most think why didn't she leave? Back then divorce wasn't talked about. You kept your problems behind closed doors. She had 5 children and no where to go. She new if she left her family would frown on this.. back then it was just try harder. I remember her mom saying " what are doing thats causing him to drink?" It always came back to mom. It was her fault things were the way they were. She wasn't good enough, she wasn't strong enough.
So she kept trying and hoping for change. She never did give up,, if it wasn't for the murder and Ken deciding he wanted to be with the other women, she would of stayed.
It's sad, but she had no self worth. So this happening was a blessing.
She slowly got up. She went back to church. Her and I walked 4 times a week, we walked miles and talked about everything. She worked a full time job and made friends.
My mom got a life for the first time. It was wonderful to watch.
