After reading the e-mail that Alton wrote her, Kiera pulled her cell phone off of the charger and began to dial the number. Halfway through, she felt goosebumps cover her body, but she hit send anyway.
It rang three times, and then a voice she had known and trusted for so long came over the receiver.
“Hello?” “Hi Alton, its Kiera. Kiera Preston from work.” She replied. “Oh hi! Nice to hear from you! I guess you got my email.” Alton laughed. “Yeah I did. Im glad you sent it.” “Well, I would like to get to know my colleagues a little better, and like I said, I have seen you cook and you are really amazing! So I would like to hang out with you first.” Alton said happily, pouring himself a glass of orange juice at his own home. His wife was out of town with his kid visiting her parents in Oregon, so he was rather lonely.
“Wow, sir, im just… really honored!” Kiera stuttered. “Oh, no need to call me sir! Just call me Alton!” “Alright then!” She laughed “Anyway, I really would enjoy it if you could join me for lunch later on today, say, I don’t know, twelve thirty-ish at the Grape Leaf Grill?” Alton invited, looking out his kitchen window.
Kiera smiled to herself. She had in the past only dreamed of the Alton Brown inviting her to lunch, but now… she could hardly believe it. “I would really like that. I will see you there, Alton.” Kiera said quietly. When she said this, the tone of her voice sent a chill through Alton’s veins. He smiled too. “Great. Bye” He said. “Bye”
They both hung up. Alton sat looking out the window. He had this weird but warm feeling in his stomach. He liked it, too. He got up and got ready to go. Alton couldn’t stop thinking about how he needed to look and how everything needed to be perfect for Kiera. It had been a very long time since he had been this excited.
