Chemicalized ramblings and tomfoolery.
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet....
Quote:
"Nor again is there anyone who loves or pursues or desires to obtain pain of itself, because it is pain, but because occasionally circumstances occur in which toil and pain can procure him some great pleasure. To take a trivial example, which of us ever undertakes laborious physical exercise, except to obtain some advantage from it? But who has any right to find fault with a man who chooses to enjoy a pleasure that has no annoying consequences or one who avoids a pain that produces no resultant pleasure?"

-H. Rackham's translation of an excerpt of Cicero's "De finibus bonorum et malorum" (About the Purposes of Good and Evil)

An ordinary person may find it so deep, but isn't this true? In fact, I did initially find it deep, but I analyzed it and it is very simple indeed. Even the stereotyped "emo" people would hurt themselves because of something. It IS dementic to kill yourself for nothing at all when you have lost your sanity, but there is still a reason: you were crazy.

I saw this translation when out of curiousity, I searched for "Lorem ipsum". I kept seeing it in the previews of Powerpoint 2000 design templates, and I was wondering what it meant. Yes, "Lorem ipsum" is a dummy text used since the 1500s, but if you will research like I did, you will see that it comes from Cicero's "About the Purposes of Good and Evil". The paragraph is altered from the original, omitting some words and letters from the original.

Seeing the paragraph at first may look like an intelligent Latin paragraph, but it isn't. (See reasons above.)

If you want to see the Wikipedia article which helped me form my views about this, see this article. I do understand that many people don't consider Wikipedia as a valid source, (I don't use it for school research, but only for casual research.) but you could just check the links in the bottom of the article.

This is the first entry of my Gaia weblog/journal, and this is the start of a sneek peak of my naivety, and my shallowness.

    I see Latin! heart

Okay this is probably very random, but I was wondering how my journal on gaia ends up with so many views despite the lack of comments, so I was like, who reads this stuff? o.o So I googled it! And I found absolutely nothing about that. All I got was a bunch of random links to journals of gaia users, so I figured I'd check some random person's journal out. :] Hence I am reading this!

I'm glad I actually understand some of the quote despite the ommissions, since I take Latin in school. It's quite interesting!

I certainly agree with it...I don't do things that I have an aversion towards, unless there is personal gain. Like taking SATs. x_x Even in terms of general actions, I always feel like doing good good/bad things are selfish actions, considering the genuine purpose.

Anyway, this was pretty insightful and I think you should write more entries! :]
