The Angel's Inner Sanctum
Novel Portion
"It's been nearly a year. A yearsince I lost all that I knew. All that I Loved.

"Since that day, I've been wandering from city to citysearching for signs of him. They're not hard to spot. Death walks in his wake.

"Four cities have fallen since then, either soon after I departed from them, or not long before I arrived.

"He knows I follow. I can sense it."

"Why? Why do you follow him? Why do these things happen?"

The first speaker drew in a long breath and exhaled. His breath was visible before him, the steel barred cell he was within was cold.

For the first time he looked at his listener, who had asked him why he had entered the city of Solisan. She was quite beautiful, an elf with bright emerald eyes and a fiery mane, all the more lovely because of her pale complexion. He could only imagine her hourglass figure for it was closely hugged by her armor, and a little more bulky than it would be were it removed. Here appearance was very sweet, very attractive, but this was not the case. She was not a woman you wanted to make angry.

She had introduced herself as Ashelin Dakai, captain of the Solisan Knights. In turn the first speaker had introduced himself as Trent Sylverstar, sole survivor of the city of Eluria.

She looked at him and could tell he had a hard life. In truth it was the last eight months tha had changed Trent. |Now he appeared drawn, grizzled and ragged. His Purple and blue hilighted hair lay matted on his head, greasy and flat in a middle part, hanging on the sides of his chin. Lina imagined it once shone like the waters of a River in moonlight, but now...

His eyes, however, still retained their cobalt lustre. They seemed to light the dank cell. His well chisled, but lean figure marked him as a warrior, and his thin features maked his Elven Herritage.

It seemed line an eternity and Trent had still not answered her question. She reaised an eyebrow expectantly.

Trent sighed. "Do you really wish to hear my story?"

Ashelin nodded, biting her lower lip. Something intrigued her, something about him.

"Will you set me free so I may continue my journey?"

"We shall see."

A moment of silence followed, broken only by a slow drip of water somewhere in the cavernous Solisan dungeons.

Trent sighed. "As I said, it has been nearly a year...."

I was not always as you see me now. Eight months or so ago I lived in the small town of Eluria, a haven for Elves like you and I. I lived there with my father; a great man of high stature within our community. I was happy within the city's walls spending my days training my mind and body. Happy until HE came...

It was a lazy day within the villageof Eluria. The Isles of Eiure knew not of winter or fall, only summer and spring. Now it was spring and a lazy one at that. Trent had little to no responsibility for helping the city function, and his father was helping the farmers, so Trent had nothing to do.

He lay on an emerald hillside just outside the village, watching the comings and goings of the Elves below.

Then, Trent, Still eighteen, was an attractive young man. His Violet-blue hair was cut just below his eyes so it fell elegantly around his cheekbones. His eyes, shining cobalt, set him aside from the other Elves. His body, not as finely chisled as it would be, was still lean, agile and strong.

He stared at the villagers all going about their business. Shoping, selling, talking, farming: all regular activites of his people.

But something was different this day. Something seemed out of place.

Trent surveyed the village, knowing something was wrong but he couldn't put his finger on it....

There! he thought, spotting a tall man clad in dark clothes walking toward the council building where the village Elders resided. Who is that?

Trent stood and shaded his eyes from the sun with his right hand, but even his keen, enhanced vision couldn't make the man out.

Still curious, Trent descended from the hill and down into the village. He walked through the cobblestone roads, headed for the Eastern district and Eliuria's largest building. He knew he would not be able to enter, but maybe he could spot the outsider as he exited.
