"Why don't I feel it?" she screamed out to the world. She threw a rock into the deep valley below her, the valley she could leap into if she stepped forward less than a foot beyond the edge of this small cliff.
She heard him before she saw him. His limping steps from the other day's battle, his smooth, steady breathing, even the beat of his heart was heard, not because it was so loud, but because everything else was so quiet, even after her scream. She turned around and saw his face, the face that startles her every time she sees it, including the pale scar running along his broad jaw, and the startlingly blue eyes, made all the more noticable by his sleek black hair. He smiled, a handsome smile that twisted the scar ever so slightly.
"Having trouble?" His even, melodic voice touched her ears in an almost soothing way. She didn't answer.
His eyes studied the trees below, then twitched up to the sky. A cloud gathered just above the valley, and droplets of water fell as he said, "Needs a bit of rain."
She furrowed her brows. The place was as lush as lush gets. Why would he waste his Water abilities on such a green area that doesnt need it in the slightest? He read her expression and answered the unspoken question.
"I feel the leaves losing their moisture, and it wont rain for days. That's just hidden where some won't find it." His azure eyes bore into her own hazel ones, and she was forced to look away. "Just like your Wind."
Somehow those four words brought in a whirlwind of emotions into her: anger that she couldnt keep up with the power, serenity that he was here, joy that she could have these abilities, sadness that she can't find it, grief for the loss of it, envy that he still had his Water, while she can't still have her own precious Wind that she missed so much. Somehow these emotions stirred something in her, a shifting that seemed to take place beside her heart. A happiness.
She gasped. The world was much clearer now; she could feel the slightest breezes caressing her auburn hair. She could hear it speak to her.
A smile warmed her lips. Wind was back, and she could see, smell, hear, taste, feel it all.
