Mary Sues
I really, really dislike these characters. Is it enough that they're perfect? That everyone likes them? No! Everything has to go perfectly for them as well. Why don't they have problems? you ask. Well, obviously their writter likes them so much that they don't want precious Mary Sue to get her/his feelings hurt.
The thing that probably gets me the angriest is that their authors think a flaw is something like, being an orphan or getting abused. You know what? If I were abused, I'd be scared all the time or insanely defiant. But is Mary Sue either? No. Instead she's a kind and loving person who cares more about others than herself.
So, I plee to writers everywhere. Don't use a Mary Sue character. Give them some real flaws, please! It makes them more interesting. Make them violent. Make them stuck-up. Make them crazy. Make them hideously ugly. Make them anything other than perfect!
((Disclaimer: this is not intended to be an attack against anyone. It is just a rant about something that I find annoying. Thank you.))
