Angels Have Eyes
Angels Have Eyes

There was a time when Angels had eyes some say. My name is Jon and I'm fifty two years old. I have had a good life I reckon for now I lay here in a hospital bed dieing from multiple head wounds. You see, I was in a car wreck.
I was driving back with my wife from a glorious weekend in the mountains. My children had come up with their families to visit us. We had done some fishing, sat around the campfire telling tales, I did most of the talking, and even despite my old tired legs, gone on a hike back to the Rainbow Falls about a mile back from the old Willow Creek. It was one of the best times of my life.
As I was driving back, my wife had told me of an angel she had seen and of course, I laughed it off. She said that she wasn't supposed to see this angel because the angel was watching over me. Again I laughed and even asked her why would an angel watch over me. She replied with that every person that was good natured had an angel watching them. Again, I laughed.
My wife was a very religious person and I was not. I never believed in angels and always questioned the existence of heaven and god. Not my wife, she knew in her heart that they were there. She said prayers every evening before bed and before Amen always ended them with, “ Oh faithful father of heaven, have your angels watch over my husband Jon”.
I wasn't there, couldn't be there when she passed on. I was told by the nurse that she had no pain or suffering when she went. I was thankful for that for my wounds hurt like hell. Yes, the meds the nurses gave me helped a bit with the pain, but I knew that it was a matter of time before I would join my wife.
I felt so alone laying here in this bed. My children had come to visit on a couple occasions leaving flowers with their blessings. I did find some relief every time Margie and Trisha came to visit. They were two gals that had tried to save my wife and Marcus the driver of the other vehicle. Both the girls had told me that my wife had seen her angel and that she had eased her pain and suffering in the end.
As the weeks went on, I tried to remember how the accident had happened. I remember driving at forty-five miles an hour, ten miles an hour under the speed limit; And I remember coming around a corner of the mountain and there he was. I bounced back and forth a couple of times hitting the steering wheel before I blacked out. I was told I was out a couple of days before coming too again and that it was a hard struggle to save my life. My chances weren't very high so I was told for my survival.
As the story turned out, the other guy was on his way home from work, he was a park ranger, and a dear had ran out in front of him. He served to miss the dear and lost control of the vehicle. That's where I came around the corner and found him out of control in my lane just before we bumped bumpers head on. Our eyes met with shock and surprise briefly at the moment of impact. Thankfully no one else was with him.
Three months and two surgeries later, I was allowed to be escorted through the hospital and even taken outside in a wheel chair. Every time the nurse pushed me outside, we went through the emergency room doors. I would ask who all the people were with the white gowns and feathered wings like that of a dove. The nurse would tell me that they were the guardian angels to the people they watched over. I asked why I couldn't see one watching over me. She told me that the people couldn't see there own angels but be rest assured that I had one and that she was very beautiful.
After five months of care, I was told one day that my children were waiting to take me home. I was wheeled out in a wheel chair to greet them. They had tears in there eyes and my son was thanking god that I had survived. Of course I still mourned the lose of my wife but also was joyed that my life I still had to spend it with others that needed and loved me.
As we were going through the doors a couple of paramedics were bringing in a young boy who looked in terrible shape. He was crying that he would die and miss his mom and dad. I stopped them and put my hand on the boys head. I looked at him, then lookup to see an angel standing by him. As I stared at the angel with tears in my eyes, I said to the boy,” Son don't worry, you'll be just fine. Angels have eyes”.

Hey, sorry I didn't get a chance to read the story yesterday. My computer was lagging like crazy and it wouldn't load. So yeah...

Anyway that was a very touching story. If you added more backstory and made it longer, it could well be a bestselling novel! I almost cried at then end (haha). I wonder though, what inspired you to write that?

Great job, keep them coming.
