the father sits
the mother cries
who would have thought
this would come into their lives

he seemed so perfect
from the outside
but in his heart
a secret cried

he smiled and laughed like the rest of us
but deep inside he was torn apart
his friends were fake, cheap, and bought
they amounted to nothing in his vacant heart

he filled the void with liquor and drugs
until it was completed to the top
he did it on purpose, knew what would happen
but he filled the void till his heart would stop

they weren't lovers, or crushes, or friends to behold
but she had watched it all from afar
her tears fell into the hole
as she looked down on him from the safety bar

the priest said his speech from the stand
to the few that had come to admire the service
his family looked down in silent thought
she sat and listened, shy and nervous

the wake was over, the viewers went home
she walked out amongst the last of them
her head down, lost in thought
what would have happened if i could have stopped him?
