We'll Miss You, Gangster
So, over the past year, my dog Gangster has had a lot of problems.
First, we noticed that she slowed up.
She used to run a lot with my other dog, Dakota, who was younger than her.
They loved to run together.
But then she had a hard time keeping up with him, because she ran slower and slower as time went by.
Then, she just stopped running completely.
And lately, she was having a hard time even walking.
We took her up to the vet a few months ago, and they said she had the Wobblers disease.
Wobblers disease is a condition of the cervical vertebrae [in the neck] that causes an unsteady [wobbly] gait and weakness in dogs and horses.
The vet told us that she could have surgery, but there was a chance that she might die during the surgery because she has Canine Von Willebrand's Disease.
That is a disease that is very common in Dobermans where the dog's blood is thin, and it has a hard time clotting.
Because of this, the vet prescribed medication for Gangster.
We had to give her 4 steroids, 2 pain relievers, and 1 Maximum Strength Pepcid AC, all in 1 day.
They seemed to help her some, but she still wasn't the same.
The steroids gave her a big appetite, so she was gaining a lot of weight, too.
She got so bad that it hurt her to pick up or bend down her head.
We had to hold up the dog bowl for her so she could eat.
We could tell that she wanted to be around us a lot and run like she used to, but it just hurt her so much.
Most of the time she spent lieing down, and she was just 4 years old.
We as a family decided that it would be best for her that we have her put to sleep.
So, on Monday my dad and I took her to the Dairy Queen and got her a Hot Fudge Sundae for her last meal.
Then we took her to the vet, and watched her just go to sleep.
We brought her body back home and buried her in our yard.
Every day I go out there to visit her, talking to her about the day and telling her how much we all miss her.

***
I think about all the great times we had together; she was such a great dog.
Such a beautiful dog.
She used to be so energetic, so youthful.
She loved to be around people, and have her picture taken.
She always enjoyed car rides.
She loved playing with Dakota.
But recently she just wasn't enjoying much.
Sometimes she would wag her tail, but you could she it in her eyes that she was in pain.
She looked at us as if saying "Fix me", but there was nothing we could do.
Every time I remember hearing the vet saying "She's gone", tears roll down my face; like they are now.
I loved her so much; and I still do.

***
This is a recent picture that I took of Gangster; on the right is Dakota.
Gangster has a Beefhide Chip in her mouth that she is chewing; Dakota is sniffing the grass.

    Aww Cheesy...
I know how hard that is.
January 25th of this year I lost my kitty to old age.
She had been there almost my whole life.
She used to be a really fat cat, but then near the end of her life she lost a lot of weight.
It worried my mom that she had got so light so quickly.
But her personality is a lot like Gangster's. She loved people, she loved pictures, she loved being in cars and riding in them, etc.
She had developed a skin condition sometime in her earlier years, and as years went on it wasnt bearable to touch her sometimes, which made me feel awful cause I loved her so much.
But Jan. 24, she would not leave me alone all night. She kept climbing on my lap and letting me take a billion pictures of her, and she kept wanting in my room and in my moms room... I feel bad now for not letting her in.
And it was ironic, because I was going to bed that night, I txted my mom and asked if we were gonna put her to sleep or let her die on her own. And my mom said that we were gonna try to get rid of the fleas that we had and try to get our kitty healthy again. She didn't appear to be in pain, but we'd take her to the vet soon.
The next morning I went to work at 7am and I saw her sitting out there and I reached down and pet her and said I love you and that I'll be home soon to play. I was gonna quit my job that day to have more time to spend with my cats. I only worked 2 hours a day, but still.
I got home around 9am, and I couldn't find her anywhere. My mom had got up out of bed and we went looking everywhere; and it was pouring rain like crazy. And I noticed that one of the doors was open. Luckily our kittens hadnt gotten out; they would have ran.
And my mom had found our kitty lying under a flower plant thing called like.. a Mallow, by our garage, and she was dead. It was her favourite plant. Whenever she would go out that side door, she'd sit on the cement and lick it and then lie down under the flower and just sun herself.
She looked like she had just gone outside, started to get a little sleepy and lost her energy from the cold, and just curled up and fell asleep and never woke up..
I'm still devastated, and so I feel your pain. *hugs* Your story made me cry, and thinking back on my kitty, I'm crying more.
I remember my kitty Salem, he loved Mabon. He looked up to her and when she died, and my mom and I were sitting down crying and talking about her, Salem jumped on my lap and just curled up. Then he looked at me and he actually was tearing up and crying. I had to keep wiping away water from his eyes. My mom was like "awww" and then he just buried his head in my stomach and it made my mom cry more cause it was so cute but so sad.

Your dog is beautiful. And she'll always remember and love you. And she'll wait for you too.

That is so sad. I felt bad for the doggy's pain. The dog we had, had a back condition so we eventually put her to sleep. Her name is Nikki and she is a German Shepard. This story made me think of my cat because she is getting old and I don't want her to die, she is like a daughter to me.

First and foremost, I would like to say that I am sorry to hear about the loss of your pet. However, know that she is in a better place where she can spend all day doing whatever she wants without any pain at all. I know it is hard to lose a pet because I lost my favorite dog two years ago and I still miss him. So never let anyone tell you that your grieving process has to stop because for some of us it never does. I have always thought that pets are put into our lives for a reason, they dig into our hearts and touch places that no one else can ever touch. Just know that the pain will last awhile and if you need someone to talk to I will be here. Plus I'm sorry to say but I'm not sure if the pain ever goes away! I don't mean to make things worse, I am just saying in a round about way that it's alright to grieve and know that there are others out there like you. So if you would like to share more stories or just talk about Gangster don't be scared to send a message my way!

That's really sad! It looks like you did the right thing tough. I guess if she was in so much pain. It would've been nice to know what she thought was best...

It's a little scary to think that 4 ml of clear liquid can just kill someone.

    I'm sorry for your loss.

Although we do not know eachother, it warms my heart that two people who never have or will meet can empathize with one another. The internet can be a wonderful thing.
