My mom only had one eye. I hated her. She was such an embarrassment. She cooked for students and teachers to support the family. There was one day during Elementary school when my mom came to say hello to me. She had her blonde hair tied up in the back of her head her eye bandage was still on as usually and she was wearing a red sweater with jeans and white sneakers. I was so embarrassed. How could she do this to me? I ignored her, threw her a hateful look and ran out.
The next day one of my classmates said “EEE your mom only has one eye!”. I wanted to bury myself. I also just wanted my mom to disappear. There i had a day dream me and my mom were standing around the sky and then the image shattered into just me smiling. This made me smile in real life. I confronted her today and said, “IF YOUR ONLY GOING TO MAKE ME A LAUGHING STOCK WHY DON'T YOU JUST DIE?” i said rather angry to her face. She didn't respond. I didn't stop for a second to think about what i had said. I was full of anger, rage and disappointment. I was oblivious to her feelings. I wanted out of that house and have nothing to do with her. So I sat in my room and studied harder than ever before. After this i got a chance to go aboard and study. I met the love of my life with brown hair and a beautiful smile, soon we married. I bought a house of my own. Soon to follow we had 2 children a son and daughter. I was happy with my life, kids an the comfort then one day, my mother came to visit me. She hadn't seen me in years and she didn't even meet her grandchildren. When she stood by the door my children laughed at her. I yelled at her for coming over uninvited.
“HOW DARE YOU COME TO MY HOUSE AND SCARE MY CHILDREN,” I had yelled, “GET OUT OF HERE NOW!” I continued.
To this my mother calmly and quietly answered, “Oh, I'm sorry. I may have gotten the wrong address.” and disappeared out of sight. One day, a letter regarding a school reunion came to my house. 'You have been invited to attend the Elm Park Elementary School's 20th year reunion!' the letter said. So I lied to my wife that i was going on a business trip. After the reunion, I went to the old shack just out of curiosity. My neighbors said she died. I did not shed a single tear to this news. They handed me a letter that she wanted me to have. I opened it.
'My Dearest son,
I think of you all the time. I am sorry for coming to your house and scared your children. I was so glad to hear you were coming for the reunion. I fear I may not even be able to get out of bed to see you. I'm sorry I was a constant embarrassment when you were growing up.
You see when you were very little, you got into an accident, and lost your eye. As a mother I couldn't stand to see you grow up only having one eye. So I gave you mine. I was so proud of my son who was seeing a whole new world for me, in my place, with that eye.
