it is just me or is this best year for movies and sports?
I'm serious! I must be insane or crazy! This is shaping up to be an excellent one-a-lifetime year for jaw-dropping sports moments and memorable creative films. I'm serious! Its start with the unique monster film "Cloverfield" and major upset in memorable Superbowl XLII (42nd, hope I got that right)

Now we seen a lot of great movies and sports moments this year, its mind blowing to see how great they are.

SPORTS

-Super Bowl loss of heavily favored and seemily undefeated New England to surprise underdog New York Giants 17-14, highlight reel of David Tyree making one of most amazing catches of all time: leaping catch while holding ball to his helmet! Can't beat that!

-awe-inspiring slam dunking arts by Dwight Howard during the reignited NBA All-Star Slam Dunking Contest, including flying to the dunk in the memorable Superman outfit, throwing the ball straight into the rim! He didn't even touch it to consistitute as a dunk!

-shocking three-point game-saving shot by Mario Chalmers, lifting the Kansas Jayhawks to dominating overtime for first championship in 20 years! And I lost the bet too! Whaaaaa!

-Nail-biting Stanley Cup Final series between powerhouse that is Detroit Red Wings and inspirational Pittsburg Penguins. Red Wings failed to close the series during Penguins' 3 extra periods incredible comeback of Game 5, yet won in extremely close and bitter Game 6. Brutal, rough and games to watch.

-Tiger Woods coming back from knee surgery and fought through bothersome pains and rough courses of US Open in Torrey Pines of California and pulled one of most amazing victories of all time and best in his career. Snagging a birdie in 18th hole of 4th round to push for Playoff and and other birdie in 18th in Playoff for Sudden Death and still won in 17th hole! Imagine, Tiger Wood with bum knee still manage to defeat every single other players who are healthy! Now that's quality performance we will probably never see again...

-Not a sport, but Big Brown's amazing run in Triple Crown fell so painfully short of his humilating loss in Belmont Stakes. We might never gonna know if it is due to cracked hoof or tiredness from healing or stupid stubbornness. Oh well...

-Celtics defeating the Lakers in nose-to-nose Finals after coming off of one of most humilating seasons of the franchise from 2006-07 season. And Celtics blew the Lakers out in Game 6, capturing their first title in two decades! Welcome back, Boston and boooooooooooo Lakers!

-Spain brutal victory over the favorite that is Germany with just one goal in exciting Euro Cup. Fans everywhere are rejoicing for Spain's long awaited victory and the downfall of Germany. Great, great match.

-Nadal's nail-biting and most deserving Wimbledon Championship over the world best player, Roger Federer in what's perhaps the best tennis match ever as many are clamoring. Too bad we didn't get to watch it much to my father's heavy disappointment... Sigh

-and finally, one of most amazing MLB All Stars' Home Run Derby showing ever with Josh Hamliton's eye-popping new record of 28 homeruns in 38 hits in first round! Don't forget that he set three of top ten farthest homeruns ever made in Home Run Derby! Too bad he lost in the final against Justin Morneau of Minnesota Twins with very less fanfare.

FILMS

-fun monster film of "Cloverfield", excellent use of camera and scares, though fall short of expectations in plot and acting.

-"The Jumper", while very neat take on popular novel, is a slow movie with far few action scene.

-excellent thriller movie "Vantage Point" keep us guessing all the way to the end through view-point of many intriguing characters.

-best Dr. Seuss movie ever in "Horton Hears a Who!" watch it now!

-hilarious sequel to cult classic, "Harold and Kumar: Escape from Guanto Bay" is amazing follow-up on wild marijuana-filled ride of bizarre proportion!

-"IronMan" became a very surprise hit with spot-on acting and clever plot! Downey Jr. is the perfect Tony Stark!

-Speed Racer is the most under appreciated movie of the year, an excellent Japanese cinematic stylish take in American film about boy who love to race facing powerful life-changing challenges and choices. A must-see.

-popcorn fun kiddie film "Kung-Fu Panda". Great visual art with very clever and thoughtful acting and plot.

-"Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of Crystal Skulls" blew me away! Even if it is not the best Indy movie, it was very very exciting to see Harrison Ford acting as his signature role again ^^

-Adam Sandler tried with "Zohan" movie, yet fell short of my expectations. Pretty neat and funny sometime too.

-******** amazing animation masterpiece that is "Wall-E" and perhaps one of best love stories around. Adorable robots tugged my heart... Awwrrr

-visually neat and good take on new "Hellboy II: The Golden Army", even if story is on weak side.

-not yet out, "The Dark Knight" hypes are everywhere with insanely critical acclaims from respected critics all over the world! I can't wait to see it this Sunday!

Wow, amazing year for everybody... 2008 might be one of best I ever experienced despite the morbid outlook on our faultering economy.

Oh yeah! on the other note! Since that my very special friend got his spanky new DS Lite, he's sending me his used one ^^ I wonder if Planet Puzzle League gonna rocks? Also, please announce the new Metroid 5, Nintendo!

Peace, Avek <3
