Ashling was trembling with the effort it was taking her to not scream, wet her pants, or run back to Heaven. She knew that if she did, rant would stay below. He probably wouldn't come back to her. She couldn't bear the thought of it.. but still, she wouldn't move forward. "We've got to go, now." Rant's tone had changed entirely. At first this tiptoeing had been a game; something fun to play while they were shooting zombies and having a generally good time. Now he was urgent, upset. Not in an angry way, either.. Ashling couldn't predict him at this point. This added to her stagnance.
They were both standing at the entrance of the Hospital. even getting her this far had been a chore. He's bribed, coaxed, promised. He'd been chain smoking all evening, and although it was night time - a time widely known to be more dangerous than day, even in Wonderland - he still urged her in.
She closed her eyes, trusted him and counted to three. She took slow steps in. Her slow and unsure steps sparked a change in her physique. The further in she walked, the more her demeanor began to show in her figure. She was regressing in age. Her hair grew unruly, her eyes bigger, she shrank until she was about knee-high with Rant.
Rant was surprised that Ashling took the change in stride. She knew it would happen..
The Hospital itself was something to behold. Everything was monotone. you'd imagine static in your vision remnant to Silent Hill. IV's were abandoned in the hallways, and if one's vision strayed away from them long enough, they would snake out in one's peripheral vision. One would imagine noises. to Ashling, all this was a fact. None was imagined. She hated it here and clutched Rant's prized shotgun to her side.
Rant walked beside her. Taking inventory of his surroundings, burning the images into his mind. He didn't much like it here but there was something calling him. He walked too briskly for Ashing to keep up with and eventually picked her up and allowed her to perch on his shoulder. She wouldn't look up, there was something in the cieling.
"We're almost there," he assured her. He didn't much like the place either. The patients looked quite less than taken care of, in fact they looked quite dead. The nurses were from all walks of depraved, and he didn't much like to watch their various 'Treatments'.
He was walking toward a dead end. Ashling was having a hard time battling the sights and didn't notice which direction they were headed, until they came face-to-face with a a huge white silken curtain. This was odd, in that all the fabrics other than this in the facility were dirtied with every fluid imaginable.. this one remained unsullied. Ashling and Rant knew this as a measure of protection for something.
She jumped down from him and landed on the curtain, pulling it down. Rant was looking away. He didn't want to bear witness to what was going to happen next.
However, being her new Guardian, he was called to. He showed no emotion when Ashling discovered her "Prize".
She didn't even have enough time to be curious. she was just upset. There, in a pile of rusted and broken medical waste...
With body fluids of all sorts on him... bleary-eyed.. weak.. abused moreso than before.. lay her Keir, her Daemon, her last soul mate before the Apocalypse that had been Frey came along..
He was abused in all manners.. ripped open.. torn.. his stare hadn't changed despite this, however. It was distant but not beyond what it had been. Ashling broke right there. she fell to her knees and cried out, not knowing what to do with herself. Keir shifted to her..
"I'm just fine," he said plainly.. and he smiled to himself at the unspoken joke. Ashling couldn't. she was feeling his pain.. clutching her chest where the bullet hole had been with both hands. something she hadn't had to do in years. Keir looked worriedly up at her.. reached up to the little girl breaking for him. "I'm fine.. I'm fine.." He was trying to say something, bt of course couldn't. "I'm fine, Ashling.. Ashling take me home.." "Ashling I want to go home.." "Ashling.." Rant was dissolving from the situation. He was closing his eyes.
This instance was different from before. This time, Ashling just wanted Keir to say what he needed to say. So he had a voice.. for now, he had a voice. "Ashling.." "ASHLING" "ASHLING I HATE YOU" "ASHLING WHY DID YOU MAKE ME" "ASHLING I LOVE YOU" "ASHLING PLEASE SAVE ME"
Her head spun.. the effort it was taking to keep him in the state was too much. she fell, and the truth stung her. He did hate her. He hated her more than he loved her. She tried to surpress her want....
"ASHLING PLEASE I WANT TO GO HOME LET ME GO HOME ALL I WANT IS TO GO HOME TALK TO ME ASHLING SAY SOMETHING"
"A---Ah...I need to get you away from here..."
Rant snapped awake. He was loath to this place, now. "We're taking him back to Heaven," he said with finality. He picked Ashling up, who was gasping for air at this point.
Keir stood up. He had no comrade. He was alone while he followed them back to Heaven.
