Just a record of... things I want to keep a record of.
People really PISS ME OFF!!!!
Case in point: Sunday night/Monday morning I was watching Family Guy on Adult Swim ("Hey Army, what's your wife's name? v****a Coastguard?" wink when I heard some screaming. I simply got up and locked the door. Trust me, there have been odder noises in our neighborhood and screams usually mean nothing. Well, tonight it didn't. Someone apparently came running up the porch and started beating on the door, continuing to scream. I opened it and a girl was standing there, her nose and mouth covered in blood. She started talking about how she'd been robbed by gunpoint and then beaten up by some guy and his girlfriend. A friend of mine was staying over, and by now he was wide awake. While I tried to get her inside, sit her down, get some paper towels, etc., he ushered her out onto a chair on the porch before calling the police (while I got ice and paper towels, then woke my father). But, we'll get into this one later.

So, the cops come and take her statement. Turns out the two attackers stole her purse, which had her car keys in it somehow, so her car was left sitting in front of our house. The girl, who I now find out is named Courtney, is in hysterics. At least, that's what I think, and I'm apparently the only one who thinks that. But once again, we'll save this for later. With the cops comes an ambulance, and paramedics check her out and recommend that she go with them to get some x-rays on her nose. Just before they can, the cops call her over to talk to her and then one goes over to the ambulance. After a moment, the ambulance drives away without her. I'll admit, I only have her word on this, the only part I saw was the ambulance driving away. Now she's crying about her nose hurting, the fact that she needed the x-rays, along with the fact that all of the money she had, around $95 dollars, was gone. This is when I found out everything that happened, again, according to her. Believe it or don't.

She had gone up to a gas station to buy a pack of cigarettes, and the only money she had was a c-note ($100 bill). She was in line to buy the cigarettes when the couple came up behind her. She buys, pays, and on her way out to her car they jump her and steal the money. They drive off, and she drives off after them. Stupid? Yeah, but apparently she has two kids and this was grocery money (and this girl doesn't look any older than me, and I'm 19). So, she catches up to them right in front of our house where they fight, beat her up, and steal her purse.

After begging (yes, begging), the cops finally call her father, who comes and picks her up. He immediately accuses her of being high and just wants to take her home. One cop had already noticed how much I was trying to help and pulled me aside, telling me that this was probably just a drug buy gone wrong and he would bet she knew the two people who attacked her.

I think she has a drug record, which is why no one would take her story seriously. So, maybe I'm too naïve, thinking that she wasn't actually high. Maybe I'm gullible. I also like the fact that my friend explained later that people sometimes claim robbery to get the owners out of the house to in turn rob them. Yeah, and bleeding all over her shirt would be a nice touch. All the money she stole would go to ******** hospital bills. And then there's the police. Since the owner of the gas station was Arab, he obviously keeps careful watch over his store. He didn't see anything, so nothing happened, and there's no need to check the video cameras. Thanks, JSO. Nice to know the force is filled with closed-minded, racist assholes who don't give a ******** about anything. And since this was a drug buy, they aren't going to do s**t to actually try to find the two who did it. I sure do feel safe in this city. Best of all, this friend is going through the motions to join the police force. What the hell is wrong with you?

Let's sum it all up. Instead of actually taking her to the hospital, the ambulance drives off without her. The cops stand around, discussing all the reasons why this incident is a drug buy and not a robbery. My friend and my father stand on the porch, watching everything silently. I'm the only one who actually stays down at the street, by the car, with Courtney. Her father comes, and instead of trying to comfort her, tells her she's high and says that she needs to go home and sleep it off (instead of, you know, going to the hospital, getting the x-rays, etc. etc. etc.) Goddammit, I really hate people!

I think it's time we said good-bye...
