Ok here is is one of my first postings on here. Enjoy. I call it Comedy show. Basically the plot hit one day after watching the logo channel.
Steven looked around at all the people surrounding him, subconsciously pulling his jacket closer even though it was a warm night. He looked at his company for the evening, and he asked himself again why he was there. The white haired man sighed. He knew why he was there, with his arch nemeses no less, was because of a couple of good reasons. The first being that said enemy had invited him. Normally most people would say that wasn’t a good enough reason, but it also lead in to reason number two, which was that Steven was invited to watch a comedy show, one that he would never willingly go to unless asked . The last reason was that his wife thought now would be as good a time as any to bury the hatchet between the two men. In the end, it had Steven, Mr. Homophobe, standing in line with Austin, Mr. Flamboyantly Gay, and tons of gay guys and girls in order to watch the same gay comedy show.
If one wanted to know how this happened, all they would have to do was ask Austin, who would put it simply, that they both agreed that some of the funniest people were gay. If one wanted to know how they came to that agreement, well that was more difficult;, although, Steven’s wife, Jenifer, might be willing to tell them
.
Despite the fact that Steven seemed to be scared of the gay population, the anxiety mostly resulted fromone man. In the white tiger’s mind, it made sense that he watched all types of comedy, as that is how he spends his nights. Steven could always be found either watching a comedy show on TV or going to the comedy club. Amazingly, a couple of his favorite shows where found on the logo network, which was how his secret was found out.
One day, during ‘Laughing Matters,’ Austin, the gay peacock, came up behind him and quietly began to watch the show as well. Steven never noticed until his unusually quiet companion said that the comedian was one of his favorites.
The unexpected comment made the man on the couch jump and stare at Austin for a few minutes. He settled down, quietly agreed, and went back to watching the show.
Austin and Steven had never before gotten along as well, as they had watching the comedy marathon three weeks ago. The rest of the house mates were able to breathe a sigh of relief, if only for a few hours.
When Austin found out a mutual favorite gay comedian was to do a show at one of the local comedy clubs, he instantly bought tickets for the two of them, as a way to say sorry for all the years of torment. At first Steven had said, ‘thanks but no thanks,’ toAustin, as he suspected a trick to try and make people think he liked men, as Austin attempted from time to time. But with his wife’s gentle prodding (aka no sex for a month), he finally said he would go.
Which was how Steven, came to be standing in line in front of a multitude of people, both strangers and familiar faces, with the person who had, for years before, tormented him.
Steven glanced at Austin, and watched as he talked with someone about the show, his hands flew this way and that as he spoke, which made his outfit’s shiny material dance in the light around them. Steven shook his head as soon as he realized that the refracted light had him staring in a daze at his companion. One who didn’t know the two would have said that the white haired man was staring at the blue-green haired man with longing, but as again, that would be the idea from someone who didn’t know the two.
The two men’s relationship resulted from a rocky past, and they only stayed near each other because of Steven’s sister, Sam. They wouldn’t have even met if it wasn’t for Stevens’s younger sibling, who had dated Austin in high school, and then became his best friend after she learned where Austin’s taste in partners really laid.
In all honesty, Steven at first didn’t care, he just laid down the rule of not hitting on him. Austin kept the rule until one night of heavy drinking, when Austin found him self passing out in his Steven’s bed, while said older brother was in it still. After the incident, it was repeated over and over for a few laughs. Later it grew into more public innuendos enacted at the high school where they all attended, and then it grew into something just above a rivalry that followed them in to adulthood and beyond;, hence, it became an amazing feet to see them near each other with out any screaming.
Looking at his watch, Steven reached over and tapped Austin’s shoulder, muttering an ‘it’s time to go in’ and nodding his head to the building as well. Austin nodded and flashed his friend a million dollar smile, quietly stating that they will talk again at a later date. The other man smiled back and nodded, although his eyes trailed over the taller of the two. Grabbing his company’s upper arm, Steven pulled Austin inside the building.
“And that’s why I don’t normally go to these things, too many wondering eyes,” Steven muttered quietly so that only Austin would hear him, and released his grip on Austin’s arm. Austin gave a quite laugh and patted Steven’s arm.
“Don’t be dramatic. It’s not like he grabbed your a** or any thing like that.,” His voice was light and some what boastful, something that came with years of being the best at something, in this case, acting. It was also attributed to his animal half, the peacock.
Steven shuttered at the thought, knocking his white hair in his eyes. He noticed with some aversion that some of the dye was fading out to show the black stripes that laid in the white, which showed his own animal half, the white tiger, before he brushed the hair back.
“Do you really think I’d let him get that close to my a**?” Steven said in a low voice revealing the hunter inside him. “No way in hell.,” He and his companion for the night moved to an open table;, Austin sitting down and Steven taking off his jacket in order to place it on the back of one of the chairs. “You want any think to drink?”
As soon as the words left his mouth, Steven instantly regretted it, as it left room for more implications from the bird like
man. However, he was pleasantly surprised when none came.
“Just a cosmopolitan, please,” Austin said, and smiled a not quite million dollar smile., He sat back in his chair and pulled out his wallet to get the money for the drink only to be waved off.
“Don’t worry about it, this one is on me. Just don’t expect it to happen again.,” The smile grew into a brighter one, as he watched the retreating back head to the bar and order their drinks. The younger man lifted a hand to cover his light laugh, as he thought about how it looked a lot like a date. He let his blue-green eyes drift over the crowed as he waited for Steven to come back with the drinks. One of his legs lifted and crossed over the other, while, out of habit, he brushed the non-existing lines out of his black slacks as he thought back to the situation he was in and the irony of it.
“Hey there cutie.,” Jumping at the sound of a voice near his ear, Austin quickly turned to see who had spoken to him, only to find one of his actor friends standing there with a friendly smile. He had his arm around another male’s waist, who gave Austin a small greeting, and then went back to scanning the floor for another open table for the two to sit down.
“Doug! What a surprise, I didn’t know you were coming
to see the show as well,” Austin said as he stood up and hugged the other male, who just laughed.
“Well, I heard that this guy is good, and I couldn’t pass up a perfect date idea with Andy here.,” Speaking of the man in his arms, Doug leaned over and kissed his lover’s cheek. The slightly taller male turned and smiled.
“ He’s just trying to butter me up so he can top tonight, which it just might work depending on how much I laugh.,” His lover rolled his eyes playfully and received a smack to his middle. Doug just laughed again and kissed his lover on the lips, before pulling back to look at Austin.
“Where’s Chris tonight? Is he getting the drinks?” Austin was about to explain that Chris was at home, when Steven showed up with the said drinks, placing Austin’s on the table and taking a drink of his beer.
“Sorry it took so long,” Steven said, “couldn’t get the bartender’s attention. Seems like a busy night for him.,” He didn’t see the other two men talking with his companion for the night at first, but quickly blushed when he did. Austin smiled and held out his hand towards the red faced tiger.
“Doug, Andy, this is Steven. He’s the brother of a friend of mine; Steven this is Doug and his boyfriend, Andy.,” There was an awkward greeting between the three as they nodded and shook hands.
“Austin, did you and Chris break up or something? I thought you two were going so strong,” Doug asked, as his and Steven’s hands fell from the hand shake. Austin tried to speak but Steven did first.
“Oh they still are, I’m just keeping Austin company tonight.,” At the funny looks given again at that answer, the peacock spoke up with a wave of his hand and a small laugh.
“Chris is at home working, and I invited Steven to join me tonight seeing as I had bought tickets before hand, and he likes the comedian as well. Kind of a peace offering after the war we had going for a while.,” Reaching over and patting a hand on the uncomfortable man’s arm, Austin smiled brightly again as his friends said ‘ah’ in mock understanding.
“Ok then, well the shows going to start and we need to find a table. , See you tomorrow at rehearsal, Austin?” After Austin nodded his head in agreement, the couple waved off as they went in search of a table, which the white haired man soon followed by plopping in to his chair with a heavy sigh. The smaller man sat down more gracefully as he scooped up his drink.
“Oh don’t get so dramatic,” Austin said, and after taking a gulp of his drink, he turned more into the table and his reluctant friend, crossed his legs again, and grinned. “It’s not like they were my parents you had to impress or anything like that.”
“That’s the second time you said that, and it’s getting annoying.,” Turning more into the table as well, he lifted his beer and took a drink as well before continuing. “I’ll have you know that even when I met Mama Theresa, she was nothing compared to dealing with your friends who think I’m your side boy toy.”
“Aw, Stevey, they don’t think that.,” The smile that was sent Steven’s way, along with that annoying nick name, had Steven leaning away from the table. “They know I have far better taste than that.”
Steven just rolled his eyes and stuck out his tongue before placing the lip of the beer bottle to his own and taking a long drink, while his companion laughed and drank his own drink; thus, turning the conversation silent, as the two men looked around trying to come up with something to say.
The two stayed like that till the lights went low and the crowd let out a cheer, as the stand up comedian walked out with the ever popular smile and wave, which they all must practice; thus, saving the pair from coming up with conversation for the moment.
After a few minutes, the duo was laughing along with the rest of the crowd and having a good old time like they were old friends. That was till the spot light turned on to Steven, who instantly seemed to draw the light in, as the comedian waltz over to the two and stood next to the now blushing man.
“How are yah doin’ tonight cutie, love the hair by the way,” the comedian said, and to prove his point the nameless funny man ran his hand threw the white tiger’s hair, making him blush even more.
“I’m doing all right I guess...” One could tell that Steven felt very uncomfortable around the jester, as if hiding his eyes wasn’t a dead give away, which just made the man with the microphone laugh along with the crowd, Austin included.
“Aw! Look fellas, I think this one is shy! He is soo cute! Tell me, is this your date for the evening or are yah single?”
Steven blusheds even brighter as he mumbled bashfully, “I’m straight.”
“Aw! Even better! Look every one, even the straight ones come in to see my show!” Turning and looking around to the crowd, whowere
letting out yelps of cheer, the comedian turned and waved at the bartender.
“Bar keep! Give this man a drink on me.” The comedian turned back to Steven, who was slowly regaining his composure, and proceeded to sit on his lap, slinging his mic free hand around his neck. “Tell me, what’s a good looking man like you doing here and not gay? It’s quite a shame for the rest of us you know.”
Austin was laughing hard by now, as he watched Steven turn five different shades of red in one setting, starting right after the other man sat down in his lap. The only reason why he wasn’t worried that he would be thrashed later was, that despite the red face, both his eyes and lips shined with good natured mirthful smiles.
“I came here because I wanted to know why every one was so happy at a gay show,” came the red faced, white tiger man’s reply, making a selected few, those who knew the bad joke, laugh as well.
“Oh? And did you learn why?”
“Well, I learned that you smell better than most straight men, that’s for sure,” Steven said, as the red faded and his usual over confidence replaced it. Austin noticed with glee, as a bashful Steven was never good in his book.
“Oh ho! You’re an odd straight man! The world needs more of your kind,” the man paused and took on a fake thoughtful look before scrunching up his nose,. “naw, never mind. If there are too many of your kind running around, we could never tell who was gay or not! Although I wouldn’t mind helping you switch to the gay side, if you get my drift.”
Steven leaned back as far as he could, as the man in his lap wiggled his eyebrows at him. In defense he held up the wedding ring on his finger, and with a toothy grin said, “sorry, I’m taken by a woman.”
“Aw, darn. Oh well, how about your friend there? He’s kind of cute looking, not bad on the eyes either.” The intent was made with a whisper like effect that was killed because the microphone was so close. In keeping with the spirit of the show, Austin sent a wink to the other two across from him, while he drank the last bit of his cosmopolitan. Steven just shook his head.
“Have to ask his boyfriend first,” Steven chuckled, as the man in his lap pouted; even going as far as to cross his arms and legs.
“No fair! All the good looking ones are taken!”
The room laughed again, and this time the man hopped off Steven, but not before turning around and laying the biggest, wettest kiss right on the tiger’s lips, which made his baby blue eyes open wide. The male comedian smiled like the cat that caught the canary, while every one in the room was laughing loudly, Austin being the loudest.
“Give me a call if you ever want to try a little man sugar, cutie. I swear I don’t bite unless asked to.” And with a wink, the comedian walked back on stage and bowed, waving to every one.
“That’s it for tonight! Thanks for coming and please drive safely! Good night!” And with that last statement, he turned and walked off stage behind the curtain, which let the lights turn on and every one knew the show was over. Austin was still laughing hysterically while Steven looked frozen in shock. He shook his head, and then turned his head to glare at the gay peacock, who was holding his sides tightly.
“Oh shut up!” Steven said at a loss for anything better, and Austin just roared with laughter again.
Twenty minutes later found the duo stopped at a red light in a white Sedan, with the blue-green haired man still laughed quietly, while the driver gripped the steering wheel, and glared at his passenger out of the corner of his eye. Steven sighed again, as he drove forward and eyed the McDonalds for a little while. He didn’t look away but spoke to the gigging fit next to him.
“Hey Giggles, do you think our others, or even Sam saved us dinner at home?” That got the laughing man next to him to sober up some and looks in the same direction as his driving friend. That actually got the thin man to smile a little bit before speaking.
“I don’t recall Chris or Sam saying they would, your wife might of though.” He shrugged, knocking some hair in his face, which he promptly pushed back behind his ear before continuing, “you wanna risk it and get something to eat now?”
“Sure, it’s not like we have to get home right now.” Looking quickly to see if any cars were coming up, Steven made to turn before he felt a hand on his arm. Quickly looking to the owner of the hand, he raised an eyebrow at him. “Not McKee D’s then?”
Austin shook his head, and pointed with the hand not on Steven to a Denny’s not to far down the road.
“There, the food isn’t as greasy, and this way we have more choices than burgers with fries or a chicken sandwich with fries,” he said, and patted Steven’s arm, sat back, and crossed his own arms over his lap. “That and you have less of a chance of getting a ticket for illegal turns and pissing off your better half.”
Rolling his eyes yet again that night, Steven simply changed lanes and drove right to the late night dinner. Once they entered the building, the two saw that it was nearly bare except for a few late night teenagers and workers getting their breakfast before going to work the grave yard shift. They sat down at a booth and smiled tiredly at the overly-enthusiastic waiter, as he handed them their menus and asked what they wanted to drink. After giving their drink orders, the bright waiter left the two to look over what they would order.
“Much better choice than McDonald's, I just wish they had better fish choices,” He Steven said, as he scanned the menu looking for something that would settle his rumbling stomach. He didn’t notice the blue-green eyes watching him, the owner having made up his mind as to what he wanted.
“If I recall right, there is no fish here. At least none that I could see.” Picking up his water and sipping it, the peacock man leaned back, stretched his legs out, and crossed them at the ankles. Shrugging finally, the man shaped tiger closed the menu as well and sighed with his trade mark grin.
“Looks like chicken then. Good thing that they fix that up alright here.” He raised his arm and rested his chin in his palm, still grinning like he knew something that the man across from him didn’t. Austin just rolled his eyes before mimicking the other man.
“Good thing is right, any thing to appease the all mighty white tiger just so that they don’t get attacked with numbers, booze and bad jokes.” Laughing quietly, Steven just reached over and hit the other man lightly on the forehead with the palm of his hand.
“Could’ve had a V8, Mr. Funnyman. At least they wouldn’t have to worry about a feminine man coming and remaking it in to a frilly gay bar, or worse, a tea house.” Chuckling at his own joke, Steven watched as his friend rubbed his forehead and pouted in his direction. “Oh quite pouting, I didn’t hit you that hard. Love tap at best you wimp.”
“Are you stereotyping me, Steven Anthony McBeast? How rude of you!” Austin dramatized, while placing the back of one hand on his head, which he let fall back and the other come up and rest scandalously over his heart. “How ever could you be so boorish!”
“Knock it off;, no one is even here to see your show of dramatics except me,” Steven said, while looking around to confirm his declaration. All those who were there were now gone. The teens had school in the morning, and the workers left to work for the money that paid for the meal. “And besides, your friend Charlie has been know to say worse and you just let it roll off your back, so don’t be pulling the ‘Gone with the Wind’ bit with me.”
“You, Good Sir, are simply no fun.”
“That’s what my sisters tell me.”
At that point, the waiter came back with their drinks and wrote their orders down before saying they would be coming soon, leaving with their menus. Leaning a little to the side, Austin let his eyes follow the waiter, watching with mild interest. Steven folded his arms on the table and shook his head.
“You’re impossible, you know that? What would Chris say if he saw you doing what you’re doing?”
“He would do what he normally would do,” Austin replied, grinning like a cat. The younger man looked back to the other without moving his head. “He’d kiss me long and hard, making sure I knew who I had given my heart to. Wanna take his place tonight?”
The look on the older man’s face had Austin laughing loudly again, falling back into his seat, and holding his sides, while Steven tried to will the blood from his face. He too fell back into his seat, only to cross his arms in front of him, looking like a little boy who was being punished by sitting in one place. Austin broke into more hysteria, wiping his eyes dry from the tears that had formed from laughing so hard.
“Oh, you are just priceless, Steven! You should have seen the look on your face when I said that !Oh I wish I had a camera.,” He reached over and touched the crossed arms. Looking up at Steven, he controlled his laughter by taking deep breaths. Steven just glared at him, and pulled his arms away as best as he could.
“Why do you do that?” The question wasn’t any thing new, but the tone was. It almost sounded defeated. “You know it makes me uncomfortable when you say things like that.”
“I was joking. You know, like the comedian was when he kissed you, remember?” The way Steven’s face fell at the low blow was almost enough to break the man’s heart, almost. He was about to say something more, but their food arrived at that point, the conversation stalled for a little while.
After the meal was done, the two sat there waiting for the tab to be brought to them. Austin glared daggers at the white haired man, while Steven looked everywhere else, ashamed of his comment. When the tab was brought, well manicured nails grabbed it first and looked it over before pulling out his wallet. Austin stared in surprised, when a hand snatched the slip of paper out of his hand and shoved away the wallet.
“You paid for the tickets, I got the dinner.” Steven stood up and was heading to the counter to pay, before Austin even realized that, in all the years he’d known Steven and he meant years, the other male actually touched him without flinching like he had been all night, or with intent of force to do something. The contact was gentle and held an apology, something that the McBeast family all had a hard time of saying or doing.
“Maybe there’s still hope for you, Stevey.” Smiling to himself, the man stood up and followed after, making sure the smile was gone when he joined him, and then walked briskly passed him outside.
Sighing again, as he felt the cold shoulder from outside, he quietly slid the plastic over to their waiter, watching him slide it threw the machine.
“Lovers quarrel?” the waiter asked. “Don’t worry too much, it’s just the beginning, it will pass over time. My own boyfriend and I had a bunch of them going on when we first got together.” The guy smiled friendly like, but the look left when Steven snatched the card out of his hand and stormed out the door. Quickly looking to one of the other late night waiters, the surprised man asked if he said something wrong to which his reply was a shrug.
Outside the now annoyed man put his credit card away in his wallet, then put that away and stalled as long as he could before he walked to his car. Austin was leaning against the passenger side door looking out away from his companion; mainly up at the night sky. Fleeting thoughts of what other men said tonight ran threw his light colored head, as the implications were forced upfront when he realized how really attractive his sister’s friend was in the nighttime lights. Quickly shaking his head clear of them, he moved forward and spoke almost shamefully.
“I’m s-sorry for overreacting. To be completely honest, it was habit.” Reaching up with one hand and rubbing the back of his head, the eldest kept his eyes down as he spoke, almost like he was expecting to be hit or something. However, because of what he was doing he didn’t see the sparkle of mischief in the blue-green eyes. Fingers lifted his chin, so that the shamed man’s brilliant blue eyes met the other’s smiling eyes before letting go.
“You are such an a**, but you know what?” Crossing his arms as he spoke, Austin leaned back again on the car before continuing, his face slightly dropping into a frown. “I really didn’t give you much other choice in the past. Hell, I still remember that petition you had every guy sign just to get me out of the guys’ lockers in high school, and that was like, what eighty? Ninety? A hundred years ago? And that was just after I told you that you had a nice butt, which is still true by the way.” He smiled again in Steven’s direction, which made the other man blush.
“Yeah, I guess I have been known to overreact over the years, huh?” Mimicking the other man’s posture, he sighed again, about to keep talking when he was cut off.
“Steven, overreacting is something that Li did when he found his son making out with Patrick, your nephew. What you did was a little more like getting ready to go to war or something.” That comment had both laughing lightly, remembering the day the fox demon had yelled in perfect Italian after finding Franky, his oldest son, making out with his best friend, claiming the white monkey was corrupting his son.
“Yeah, I guess that’s more of a true statement for me; although, Darron didn’t help much in gathering weapons.” The white tiger sighed and crossed his legs, relaxing more next to his companion for the night, and quite possibly many others after.
“What? No Adam or Rex helping the cause?” The tone was meant to be playful, but it came out with a little anger behind it, showing that it was still a sore spot between them. The other man heard it and flinched, making him look down at the ground again.
“Naw, Adam was more interested in getting a particular blonde’s eye, while Rex was used to being called a fruit cake as it was. Darron was the only one who was willing to help, but even that fell threw. I was the only one you picked on of the four of us.” Surprisingly, the older man’s voice held a reminiscent sort of tone, which made Austin look at him oddly.
“You know, if you weren’t there, I might not have graduated. All those teachers kept saying I would never amount to any thing, and at home my parents we’re telling me to be an accountant. Between the two, I nearly quit school.” Looking over at the shorter man, he smiled his trademark grin at the look he was getting. “Don’t look surprised, if you didn’t pick on me then, I might not have been able to focus enough. You, Mr. Frost, challenged me to keep improving.”
“How do you figure that? As I recall, the most I would do was hop in your bed as you were sleeping.” The comment had the slightly feminine male confused. Normally archenemies did not say things like that. The blue eyed manlaughed out loud.
“Your looking at it like a play, things just happened because they were supposed to,as that’s how it was written. I look at it like a math problem. To get the solution I wanted, which was to keep you out of my room, let alone my bed, I had to come up with a problem that guessed at how your brain worked,”Scratching the back of his head lightly, the white haired man thought how to word it differently.
“What I mean is that I had to guess as to how you would get inside the room again, like they do on that ‘Numbers’ show, only not because you wanted to kill me.” He smiled as Austin’s face faded away from confusion to understanding with his own bright smile.
“Oh! I get it now! Actually it is kind of like a play, believe it or not. You actually do have to guess as to where the other actors will stand, so that you know where you stand as well.” The smile didn’t really dim, but it did become softer as he watched his company’s smile doing the same. “You know Steven, you and I are a lot a like when you think about it.”
The smile he got for the comment made the peacock’s heart nearly melt at the mere fact that it was genuine and directed at him.
“You know what? Your right and I really don’t mind it either,” Steven said still smiling at each other, as they both came to realizes that they both got to start fresh with each other. The moment was ruined when the song ‘My Friends Over You’ started to play. The shorter man opened the door and grabbed his phone answering quickly after looking at the id.
“Hi Chris, What is it? Where are we? Well we’re in the parking lot of Denny’s, talking. Yes Chris, you heard right, talking. No, no one is drugged. No, Steven isn’t trying to kill me. Chris! Do I seem like a killer to you? That’s only in the bed room and you know it.” He turned and winked at the man leaning on the car, who suddenly looked a little green. Steven should have known by the sudden grin on the trouble maker’s face, that what would be said next was going to make him want to kill him.
“Steven, please, not while I’m on the phone.” The other man giggled suddenly and covered the mouth piece, but left some uncovered so that he could still be heard. “I know you’re mad we were interrupted, but Stevey stop it while I talk to Chris, please.”
“Hey! I’m just standing here! Like hell I would be trying to get in to your pants! You little…! ”
And that was how the night was ended between the two once enemies became friends. Of course, that doesn’t mean they were always getting along or even picking on each other. At one point they even debated if they could ever be more than friends, but you know what? That’s a story for another time.
