Chapter 8

I looked up into the moonless sky and slid into the underbrush, shaking in terror.
“What are you doing?” Shishou asked.
“Don’t look!” I replied hastily.
“Kisa…” he rolled his eyes.
“Don’t laugh!”
“Why would I…” he gripped my arm and yanked me out. I backed against a tree and hid my tear stained face. “Kisa, be reasonable!” he picked me up and set me down away from plant life I might harm with unreasonableness. His eyes widened. “You’re light.”
“You’re a moron!”
“Uh, Kisa, I think the hyenas ripped of your wings… does it hurt?”
“No, stupid, since I was born, my wings disappear on the night of the new moon, when nobodies supposed to see.”
“Why?”
“I was born on a new moon. Otherwise, I don’t know.”
“That must stink.”
“You bet it does!”
Hachi glared at us. “Yeah, so the brat has seen you wingless, let’s get a move on.”
