The [Stray] Wolf
duh, it's about me
Dream 9
A Battle to Remember

Still running, I started to hurt inside, and I didn’t understand why but only used the pain as fuel for the fire within me. Trees being felled left and right, some not even necessary, a familiar lust-a drive to kill-made itself noticed to my inner eye. I thought to hell with it and unleashed a flash of light from the tip of my sword that demolished all in it’s path. The newly charted trail made it easier to take the size of stride I wanted, as far as my leg stretched making the scenery a blurry mix of discolored blobs. The mountain of a lair came to view within minutes, and; in my eyes my sister’s salvation was now in my hands.

My sister woke with only the realization that she was royalty, how to speak, fight, and a few more bits of common-sense. Looking up at Hellvayne, she asked “who are you? Why am I here instead of a castle?” All in due time, my lady, but for now we need to keep you safe from the rouge demon heading this way was what the beast replied. She readied herself with a sword laying beside Hellvayne, who was donning her with armor. Soon they were both prepared for my arrival, which was now short at hand.

I was now at the foot of the mountain, staring upward toward a small opening miles above my head. This seemed a simple enough task, honestly I only needed to jump from foot fall to foot fall. All too little prepared was I; for the rock only crumbled under my toes as I launched-as hard as I could-to expel all the rage and sorrow my chest held as fuel. It was taking longer than I thought it should, every time the rocks crumbled I seemed to go further down than the time before. When I got to the opening the first action I was forced to make was pretty much a fall-flat on my face-because of the fire coming at me. Hellvayne wasted no time trying to kill me, he was soon on top of me, talons stretched out above me, bearing down fast. I was missed by little more than an inch. I used my new position under the beast to try to puncture a hole, to no avail. The sword only left a long snake shaped line on its chest, which seemed to be falling towards me now. Rolling backwards from under the belly I realized who was standing a few feet from the wall, sword in hand. “Sis, help ” I yelped, dodging yet another attempt by Hellvayne to have my head. I barely had time to draw my sword before leaping over a massive tail that was barbed at the end, roll under the third swipe of the claws, then dodge behind a pile of rocks and bones to shield me from the fire.

As the fight had raged on my sister stood there in wonder. Did he just call me ‘sis,’ who is this monstrosity. Not knowing how to react to the plea I made was an all to powerful reality for her, she had dropped the sword. As he fought to occupy me Hellvayne attempted to re-add her into his ranks by saying My lady, this horrid wolf is a deserter of your army and now wishes to mutilate you in any possible way. She could but only shake her head, the loss of memory paining her so greatly it made her collapse, but not faint. She noticed the concern within my eyes, mistaking it for anger or hatred; unfortunately so did the dragon who seized the opportunity to sweep my legs out from under me. Natural coordination took root, my free hand landed on the ground, I rolled into a standing position and readied myself for more squabble with the monster.
What was not expected was a sword to be pointed at my face, she had taken arms against me again, and decided to use that. “What are you doing?” I demanded, not sure how things would turn out. “Don’t you remember me? I’m your brother, I had traveled to ensure you received the throne.” Lies, he wants nothing more than to kill you my lady Hellvayne assured her falsely. “SHUT UP, BOTH OF YOU ” She snapped, not knowing who to believe. Look into his eyes, all you will see is hate Hellvayne said to her calmly, and she obeyed. Though only taking seconds the stand off between the three of us felt as an eternity. After studying my expressions she realized that I was not an enemy, but did not believe entirely that I was who I said; nor did she feel as if the dragon was either. She turned from one to another-like a dog with two people calling to it-looking for compassion and love. Hellvayne, being impatient as he is, stated If you care not for your own well being then so be it, but I will not allow him to kill you as soon as the last word was said his massive neck-behind the twin rows of razor edged teeth-lunged in my direction.
Knowing his strategy, I crouched; for he wished for me to jump. Thrusting my sword upwards under him I left a gash from the left jaw bone to where the Adam’s apple would have been located. Luck was not on my side, Hellvayne had anticipated this movement as well, as soon as his head was over me he had let out his breath of fire; it splayed my front side with a mix of pyre and cook blood. As I yelped and ran in another direction he recoiled in belief the tactic could be deployed a second time. Not knowing a defense against both the fire and the fangs I tried an aggressors approach, I unleashed the black rift. As last time we fought the attack had an odd effect on him. Hellvayne slowly morphed into stone, but this did not stop him...I would surely die this time.
