Luna's journal. Come take a walk in my brain?
Alright this is just going to be a place for my ramblings on topics of my choosing.... Video games, music, movies, society and the like. Take a peek!
zOMG! and the Joker graphic novel
SO! I'm certainly aware of the fact that I haven't updated this journal in.... Forever, possibly? But oh well, I'm soooooo sure you all cried yourselves to sleep every night. Now that I've fit into this entry how undeniably emo all of you are, let's get the real show on the road. Two topics up for discussion tonight; the Joker graphic novel by Brian Azzarello, and Gaia's new mmorpg zOMG!

Ok, first up, let's talk Batman. Er...... "Joker" to be more specific.

Joker, written by Brian Azzarello and with art by Lee Bermejo came out on Nov. 4th. Now, I did in fact buy and read it that very day, so I should have had this small review up much sooner.... But I'm super lazy. Now, while reviews on Joker have been mixed, opinions of it are either very high, or very low. In essence, people either love it or hate it. Some say it's the next Killing Joke, while others say that "The Joker in this comic could easily be replaced with any other villain."

In my opinion, it was excellent (though I don't agree with the sentiment that it's equal to the Killing Joke); the story was compelling and had a hint of a crime-noir flavor to it, while the art was beautiful, each character wonderfully rendered. My only negative comment is that the switch from painted pictures to inked pictures was a little rough; I think it could have been smoothed out a little better, but all in all it was good. I give it 4 1/2 stars out of 5. Fore more information about the actual story line, check out my earlier post on this graphic novel, or Google it for christ sakes!

Ok, now on to zOMG!

Two words; love it. I was a beta tester before the game was actually released to the masses, but I only ever made it to one test, so it's just now I'm getting a real feel for the game.

The fact that Gaia chose to set the game up so that you don't have to download is brilliant; it saves a lot of time and computer memory, and was a good choice when it came to maximizing the user base. Unfortunately, it does tend to lag quite a bit when there are too many people on the server or a lot of action in-frame: I would recommend joining the server with the fewest people to cut down on lag.

Currently, these are the rings I myself have come into possession of:
1 Meat ring
2 Mantis rings
1 Bump ring
1 Slash ring
2 Swarm rings
3 Band-aid rings
2 Rock-armor rings
1 Shuriken ring

The quests are fun, and killing animated is easy enough that it is quickly mastered, while difficult enough that you are forced to team up occasionally for the bigger bosses (case-in-point: "The General," a giant gnome whom I was lucky enough to join up with a crew just in time to kill. Dear god that thing was big!) I've made it as far as the "Bill's Ranch" map and have completed all the quests but one; I still have to venture into vampire territory *shiver.*

Recipes are another great addition, allowing you to create items for your avatar from things the animated drop when killed and, of course, some Gaia gold. So far I've only chosen to make the Flamingo Plushie and the Plain Fluff Plushie. While I do have enough ingredients to make about ten others.... I'm cheap, so it'll have to wait. See you out there zOMG!ers!

Currently listening to: "Rise" By Flobots
So much pain
We don't know how to be but angry
Feel infected like we got gangrene
Please don't let anybody try to change me

Me, just me in the middle of a sea full of faces
Full of faces
Some laugh some salivate
What's in your alley-way; recycling bins?
Or bullet cases?

It's not equal;
It's not fair
We're different people, but we ain't scared
We ain't never scared;
To pave a new path
Make a new street
Build a new bridge

Say can you see by the dawn's early light?
Free slaves runnin'
Songs words weren't right
Now a new day's comin'

The few stay stunning while the many are handsome
Your soul is alive but they want it for ransom
The base drummin' is the anthem
We step to the heart beats of our granddaughters and grandsons

And rise together
We rise together
We rise together
We rise together
We rise together
We rise together
We rise together
We rise together
We rise

Lost hope and found need
Grounded by your surroundings
Did the walls scream
universities?
Or you and I vs. the Tees?

React automatic and we burst when squeezed
And make 9-11 each emergency
Urgency
Amber to red like the turning leaves;
Oh please let the hurtin' cease

Don't let apathy police the populace
We will march across
Those stereotypes that were marked for us
The answers obvious
We
Change the consonants and
Change swords to words and lift continents
