Story~: The Contract
Preface:
It had been really quiet in the house; just me and my dad. My mom was in the hospital due to a carcrash. My sister, stubbron as she was, wouldn't dare to leave mom's side, no matter how much that affected the rest of us.
It was really quiet at the table as my dad and I picked at our dinner. My dad must have noticed my silence, "Mom is going to be fine," he tried to sound firm, but his voice cracked at "fine."
I tried to ignore him.
"Honey, trust me."
"You know she is dying--it doesn't help to deny it..."
"If it calms you...then..."
"I'm not just worried about Mom."
"I was afraid you would say that..."
"You can't try to promise me anything about Sis..."
"I can try."
"It won't help."
He sighed, then looked at me directly in the eyes, "I know. But I can't help wishing..."
