A.E.D. had started to appreciate Izm's idea of sleeping in every day as soon as he was forced to return to the classes he'd been missing. As opposed to Izm's procrastinator attitude, .D was a fairly good student, turned his work in on time, got relatively good grades, and didn't find class too much of a bother, usually. Other days, like that one, .D loathed his classes just as much as any other student in the room. His mind wandered to the other night, or, that morning, depending on how you looked at it. It was surprisingly enjoyable to sleep all day, entangled with Izm on the floor, and to then eat dinner in front of a cheap horror flick. He could get used to spending his days like that. But he shouldn't, there was work to be done, classes to attend. Real life beckoned and he couldn't ignore it because Izm's tempting was more appealing.
At that moment he was speaking with the technicians in charge of the school's lock systems about having Marcus removed from the list of those who could access his room. Then he would be on his way to see Rire and receive the detention he knew was coming. Izm made light of it, sure, and .D knew that it really wasn't that bad. But the fact of the matter was, A.E.D. simply didn't get detentions. He liked it that way, and he was loathe to relinquish that just because it wasn't that bad.

"Alright, and...there, he's off the list," the rather unhygeinic geek informed him, a lisp and a stuffed up nose almost making him unintelligable.

"Thank you," .D replied politely.

Yawning, he left the small technician's office behind and headed for the main office. He had slept all day yesterday, but he had then stayed up all night and then gone straight to class. He was looking forward to his afternoon nap. But first he had to visit Rire. His shoulders slumped a little. There was also the chance that the stupid coot would have him serve his detention that very day and his nap would be postponed even later. He could just...not go. A.E.D. paused in front of the office, his hand almost on the doorknob, contemplating just skipping the meeting and returning to his dorm room. It was better for him to not, after all, the sooner he got the detention over with the better. Then he wouldn't have time to worry over it and let the dread fester and consume him, making the inevitable worse than it really was.

.D pulled the door open and walked in, the lackadaisical office secretary nodding to him that he could go right in. He opened the door to Rire's office and slouched in. His headmaster was rather young for his position, at only thirty-five he didn't necessarily make the same impression on students as perhaps some ancient old man might. But somehow whether it be rumor or truth, word spread about him gave him the authority to keep most bad boys in school shaking in their boots. A.E.D. had never really understood what it was about Rire that was so terrible. He'd heard his fair share of gossip just like any other student attending the boarding school, but most of it he passed off as contemptable tall tales spread by those who'd gotten on his bad side. It was this commanding image that made sending his trouble students to Rire the worst thing he could do. At the moment, however, the man before him didn't strike fear into him at all. He was leaning back in his highbacked swivel chair, chewing on the end of his pen and staring aimlessly at paperwork. He was probably willing it away, wishing to be out of the office. .D knew the man far too well.

A.E.D. shut the office door behind him and coughed politely to gain the headmaster's attention. Rire looked up at him and smiled genially.

"A.E.D., glad you could finally make it down here."

"I'm sorry I didn't come yesterday but I was kind of busy with-"

"-Izm?" Rire offered, smirking.

.D snorted, "No, I was sleeping, if you must know."

"The question's still valid," again the smirk.

.D sighed, "Anyways, you summoned?"

"Ah, yes, I was wondering about what we should do about all this cutting class."

"Sir, you never do anything about it, so why-"

"Exactly, I never do anything about it. I mean, it's pretty obvious I play favorites, with you more than anyone, .D. Every once in a while I need to play fair and give you a detention or two. I mean, three days in a row? The teachers are starting to complain."

"Well tell them to stuff it, you're the headmaster you can do that," .D grumbled.

"Just because I can doesn't mean I should."

A.E.D. chuckled, if only because he'd reprimanded Izm before with similar logic. As they'd been talking, Rire had gotten out of his seat and maneuvered around the desk, sitting on the edge facing .D.

"I know, but still...detention, sir?" .D let just the slightest whine enter his voice, the ultimate show of defeat for him.

Rire allowed a short bark like laugh and rested one hand on the back of .D's neck and shook him playfully, "Yes, detention .D."

A.E.D. propped one arm up on his thigh, plopping his chin into the palm of his hand. He barely registered the headmaster's hand starting to massage the skin just below his collar. It didn't sink in until Rire's next words.

"If you're so deadset against detention, I have another option for you," .D was decidedly oblivious, he realized, because even as Rire's eyes grew dark, and his smirk just a little less jovial, he still held hope.

"Really?" he asked, his voice remaining resolute despite his headmaster's wandering hand. It had slipped entirely past the collar now, and into the back of his shirt, fingers splayed out over his dark skin.

"Yes, really," Rire leaned closer to him until his mouth was on .D's ear, and their cheeks were pressed together, "you could finally own up to all those rumors about you and make that pretty little mouth actually good for something."

A.E.D. gagged, and made the mistake of trying to get away. That hand that had so slowly sneaked down his shirt came speeding back up to take firm hold of his neck. Rire whispered sweet nonsense into his ear that did nothing to comfort him. It did quite the opposite, making him writhe and fight even more. It took a surprisingly long while for him to protest verbally rather than squirm and thrash in the chair.

"No! Let go of me." .D hissed.

"Oh, .D...I'm sure you'd enjoy it."

"If you're implying what I think you are than I can assure you I would not enjoy it," in fact, as he was saying the words his stomach was churning, and the urge to vomit was growing.

Rire smiled in a way that .D no longer mistook for amicable or kind, "It's called a b*****b, you pretty little whore."

"No-" Rire's hand clamped over his mouth, muffling his protests.

"Now, there's no need for that, why don't you just shut up?" The friendly quality never left his voice, if anything, it only increased.

No! I won't shut up! .D thought stubbornly, fighting as much as he could, eventually lifting his hand and punching Rire in the jaw. The temporary shock allowed him to propell himself out of the chair and towards the door. He would get out of there and tell somebody, anybody, and...and... Suddenly there was a knife pinning the cuff of his shirt to the door right above the doorknob.

"Where are you going, .D? To rat me out?"

"Yes!" he snapped.

"Now that's just not smart."

"Yes it is, they'll put you away and-"

"So I hear you want to work for the government after you graduate, right .D?"

"...huh?" What...?

"Do you think they'll higher some kid who'd been expelled from such a fine institution as this one?"

The dread had returned, settling in the pit of his stomach along with his nausea.

"You're threatening to expell me...?"

"Ah, never were a slow one, were you?" Rire laughed, "In all actuality, no, no I'm not. I'm making my point."

"Which is?"

"That outside of this school, you have nothing. No place to go, nobody, in fact, really, who do you have here?"

A.E.D. caught himself before he said it, but Rire saw the look on his face and laughed outloud, "Oh, Izm? Are you serious?"

He felt his chest clench as he realized the truth in Rire's words. He...he really didn't have anybody.

"Even if you 'ratted' me out, and Izm of all people came to your defense, who's going to believe the word of two little orphan boys that everyone hates?" Rire's words came out almost as a coo.

.D flinched at the wording, suddenly finding breathing difficult. Rire approached him, leaning close as his arms reached to either side to shut the blinds. He plucked the knife out of the wood, freeing .D, giving him the opportunity to run, but he couldn't. With the confident swagger that he had undoubtedly won, his headmaster returned to his perch on the edge of the desk, his legs spread wide. He smirked.

"So, why don't you come over here and discover your real purpose in life, .D?" Rire beckoned.

A.E.D. stumbled towards the desk, barely staying on his feet. Slowly he pushed the chair out of the way, willing himself to faint, or...or something. He fell to his knees, and the thud that resounded throughout the office was the worst sound he'd ever heard.

Izm had a pretty decent day. Even though he was dog tired, had ended up going to all of his classes, been put through far too many boring lectures than he'd have wanted, he'd had a good day. This was because he knew that A.E.D. was waiting for him, and they were going to take a long nap. Izm liked naps. He grinned as he swiped his id card through the lock and walked into the room. He dropped his school bag off in the hall and went into the bathroom to find .D, seeing as the door was wide open and the lights were on. What he ended up finding confused and worried him. .D was standing at the sink, shaking profusely and brushing his teeth like a mad man. Spit and foam, and gobs of toothpaste were dripping off his chin and his eyes were wide and sightless. He was staring at his reflection, or so it appeared, with the most hateful face Izm had ever seen him wear. After a few minutes of vicious brushing, a pink foamy toothbrush was removed quickly from .D's mouth and coated with even more colgate. He wasn't even aiming for the brush and got some all over his hand, he spat into the sink, spraying gobbets of blood and foam all over, before putting the brush back into his mouth and continuing the frantic pace. Eventually a dry, tearless sob forced the brush out of his mouth and he gripped the edges of the counter until his knuckles turned white.

".D?" Izm called.

The prefect whirled around, his eyes wide and his jaw trembling. Izm took a step towards him and .D mumbled nonsense at him, gibberish as he let drool slip out of his mouth, spitting aimlessly, spluttering out words that had no meaning, only raw emotion, and none of it pleasant. As Izm was about to try saying his name again, suddenly A.E.D. seemed to pull all the crazy inside and then there was nothing but his usual countenance, and it was set on cleaning the mess he'd made.

".D?" Izm gaped.

A.E.D. dropped the sponge that had appeared in his hand as if by magic, as Izm hadn't seen him go looking for it.

"I'm tired," were the only words he said.

"Yeah...me too." Izm offered absently, bewildered by his friend's behavior.

"C'mon, nap time, okay?"

"Um...okay."
