An Even Stranger Welcome (continuation of the continuation)
The smell of salt now flooded the time machine. The fog was so dense, you couldn’t tell who the figure was, let alone where you were because of it. That is until the creature stuck its hand out to try and grab Trunks. Years of practice for reflex training left even Trunks amazed, as the shadow retreated, hissing. The fog was beginning to let up, but he wasn’t going to stick around long enough to find out where he was.

“Whatever that was, I don’t want to know, and where I’m at I could care less. On the other hand, it would help if I could find my way back to my own planet once and a while!”

The engine sputtered as he disappeared once again on his voyage home, and then later, back to Earth. This time, he stayed on course, ending up at around the same place where he had left. He was immediately greeted by his mother, who was watching through the window. She hugs him, then glances at his transport, and is shocked.

“Now how in the world did you ever manage to get ANYWHERE in THAT? It looks like you threw boulders at it, and then it caught on fire.”

“I know its beat up, but I definitely didn’t want to stop for repairs at my last stop, that’s for sure.”

She gave him a puzzled look, and then quickly checked him over to make sure he wasn’t bruised or cut anywhere like every mother does after you’ve just come back from a “long trip”. He explained that he needed repairs done, and needed to return as soon as possible.

“Now why in a big hurry? You’ve already done what you needed to right?”

Trunks nodded.

“Then I don’t see any point in fixing that tin can. Unless you met someone while you were there.”

Trunk’s face shot a bright red. He turned away, trying to hide his blushing, but his mother caught him before he could. She was just about to get into a conversation with him about why he blushed all of a sudden, when his only means of transportation back to Earth, exploded in a fiery burst of flames, and shrapnel. They both checked to see if each other were okay, and were glad that they didn’t try and repair it, then it exploded with them in it.

“Well Trunks my boy, looks like we’re gonna have to build you one from scrap. I can do it, it’ll just take a few months longer. Plus I need your help with it. So I guess she’ll just have to wait for you for a little bit longer.”

Trunks was startled, and embarrassed at the same time. How could she have know about Alexa? He was just about to ask when he noticed she just walked off whistling. Maybe she didn’t know? It could’ve been a lucky guess. Either way, he wasn’t about to tell her about Alexa. He grabbed a wrench and began to piece parts together. Bulma, (his mother) walked out and smiled slyly.

“I think she can wait for one more day, there’s no rush.”

He turned bright red, and dashed off to his room. Maybe she does know? No, there was no way she could’ve. As he lie in his bed that night all he thought of was that day when he’ll get to hold Alexa again. Strangely, back on Earth, another individual is having a similar dream.

The base shell of the time machine is nearly completed, and much better and impact-resistant than the last one, for obvious reasons. Trunks dazed off thinking about Alexa, and almost stripped a bolt. His mother, making another witty comment, interrupted his day dream.

“Trunks, is she a beautiful girl? You know I’ve always wanted grandchildren. Maybe she’s the one that’ll get me some.”

Trunks’ mind was going all kinds of places because of that conversation, and it took everything he had not to break down and talk about her. He simply denied ever meeting anyone, he just liked the scenery. He had to leave once again, because she got to asking questions again. He was definite that she knew something, but wasn’t sure of how much she knew. His best bet was to try and remain calm, until he got some alone time to vent to himself.

One day when the machine was nearly finished, she started up on her questions again, this time they were different, like how old she was, her eye color, hair color. The more detailed questions. Little did Trunks know that Bulma never believed that there was any girl, she was only messing with him. Either way, she went one question too far, and he went into a screaming rage. She laid off the questions for a little bit after that, but got wise enough to ask another one.

“So do you think she’s found someone else in these few months you’ve been gone?”

He froze. He’d never thought that maybe another prince charming, could’ve come along and snatched his Alexa. He ran back into his room, just in time to burst out in tears. How could he have been so confident. That he was the only one she would love. Although he had a small feeling in his gut that said go anyway, no matter if she loves you or not. He dried his eyes, slowly reassuring himself, and continued to construct his ticket there.

Through much hard work, and a couple bruises; the newly completed time machine stood before him. His mother wished him goodbye, and he stepped inside. He turned around to say goodbye, but he didn’t want to get too upset. He closed the door, and disappeared from sight.

“Well, it’ll definitely be a lot quieter here with him gone, now I just have to spruce up a little; what’s this?”

She picked up an envelope that had her name on it. She opened it and read the card, and began to cry tears of joy. The card read this:

“Dear mother,
I assumed you were merely kidding when you asked all of
those questions, but I just want you to know that she really is
beautiful.
-Trunks”
