Chapter 49 Unexpected Meeting
Tornado couldn’t help but feel that a large pressure had been lifted from his shoulders. Not only had he gotten to see Aero happy and safe, but he also didn’t have to hide anything from his friends. He still couldn’t be completely at ease for there were still many mysteries about the Dark Realm.

“Message for you, Tornado.” A messenger landed before him handing him a letter.

“Any idea what it’s about?” Tornado asked as he opened it seeing the usual message.

“Not really, he just wants to talk to you about something.”

“Alright, I’ll head over there now.”

Tornado entered the lobby nodding to the guards as they opened the door for him. The routine had become very normal for him.

“What is it milord?” Tornado asked as he walked in.

“Well, I realized you never told me your sweethearts name. I’d prefer to address to her name from now on instead of ‘girl’.”

“I’m sure she doesn’t care how you address it,” Tornado told him turning to leave, “If that’s all you were wanting then-”

“Why don’t you tell me?” his voice was tinged with seriousness.

“To tell you the truth, I just don’t want to.”

“It’s not safe to keep things from me.”

“I’m here so that she stays safe. Let me keep that much from you.” He looked at the Lord with deadly seriousness.

“Fine, you may leave.”

Tornado left relaxing only when the door closed behind him. He crossed the lobby stopping suddenly when a figure caught his eye. The yellow winged woman ran when he turned. Tornado followed after her, but she didn’t wait for him like before. He knew that she must have some connection to the Light Realm, some information that he needed. He continued searching for her through the halls. When he turned the corner he saw a pale figure resting against the wall.

“Excuse me,” he called to her.

She hid her face sprinting away from him.

“Wait!” he called following her.

He turned the corner catching only a glimpse of her as she turned down another hall. He walked over silently as he approached where she turned. He could hear her breathing heavily from running. Her shawl lay around her shoulders revealing her straight pale blonde hair.

“You’re Light aren’t you? The picture you painted in the parlor is of a place in the Light Realm. I’ve seen it before.”

She cowered hiding her face from him.

“Please,” Tornado knelt by her, “you know something about me don’t you? That’s why you hide, why you help me.”

She didn’t speak, but she looked at him with fearful dark brown eyes. Her face was narrow and she seemed so frail. She cried as her eyes searched his face as if etching it into her memory.

“Who are you?” he asked her softly.

She looked down shaking her head.

“Why are you here?” he pressed.

“Don’t-”

“Are you . . . are you my mother?”

She looked up tearfully. Her eyes were wide with fear. “You aren’t supposed to know. It will be bad if he finds out you know.”

“Then you are her,” Tornado asked, “Why did you leave? Why didn’t you take me with you? Do you know how hard it was to live there? The people hated me!”

His mother collapsed to the ground crying. “I didn’t want to leave you,” she sobbed, “I wasn’t given the choice. Please, Tornado, forgive me. I know you must hate me.”

“I don’t hate you, I just don’t understand. What made you leave me? I feel like I don’t know who I’m supposed to be. There’s so much I can’t understand.”

“I can’t, she sat up shaking her head, “Ciaran forbade me from even seeing you.”

“The Dark Lord did?”

She nodded.

“Why? Aren’t I your son? Rook gets to see his mother.”

“It’s complicated,” she told him looking down.

“Tell me, please.” Tornado took her fragile hand.

“Wh-when your father came to the Light Realm he was hoping to have an heir with the Queen of Light. At that time I was a mistress in charge of the maids, but he mistook me as royalty. It was a mistake he didn’t realize until after you were born. It had been his plan all along that you would stay in the Light Realm. The only problem was that you were born Dark. I suppose it is my punishment that I had to cut my connection to you. I’m sorry you are affected by it as well.”

“So cruel,” Tornado sighed sitting back against the wall.

“He’s not-” she stopped herself pulling her legs close, “it may seem like your father is cruel, but he’s not pure evil. Please, don’t hate me for saying this. I-I love your father, despite his cruel intentions. He really did love me . . . at one point or another. I’m sure he did.”

Tornado looked over at her. She still had a young face though it was lined with worry. She was very small and almost childlike in the way she sat curled up.

“I though you were dead, Tornado,” she told him, “Ciaran didn’t tell me you had come here. Until I saw you I truly though I didn’t deserve to live. I’m the most horrible mother in the world, but I’m truly glad to have been able to meet you.”

“You sound like you’ll never see me again.”

“It happened before,” she explained, “I’ll surely be punished again if your father finds out I’ve met with you.”

“He won’t find out,” Tornado assured her, “neither of us will tell him.”

She nodded smiling faintly. “I hope you’re right.” She hugged him quickly standing to leave. “Sorry, that was selfish of me.”

“It’s fine,” Tornado stood towering over her small frame, “you’re my mother after all.”

Tornado could see some similarities between them. They were very faint, like the shape of their eyes.

“You resemble your father more then me,” she told him noticing his glance.

Tornado nodded, reluctant to agree.

“Well, you should probably go,” his mother sighed sadly.

“What is your name?” he asked suddenly.

“Evangeline.”

Tornado smiled, “Thank you. I wanted to put a name with your face.”

“Yes, I’m happy a face to put with your name as well,” she told him returning the smile, “Now go back before you are found.”

He nodded hurrying back through the halls and out through the lobby. He ran to Umbro’s house and pounded on the door while he tried to calm his heavy breath.

“Who’s there?”

“Tornado!”

Umbro opened the door quickly hearing the panic in his voice. “What’s wrong?”

“I met my mother,” he said in barely a whisper.

“Your mother?” he asked shocked.

“Yes, she told me something that worries me. I need opinions.”

“I’ll summon the group.”
