"There's a story written in blood on the walls, you know. Not to scare you, but so you're willing to read someone else's story, and know that it meant everything to them."
It was strange, Ashley thought, that no one had even caught Ashley and her new companions. There was smoke and steam, and now, fog! How could someone not have noticed? She shook the thought off. It was just another question for Vladimir when she got a hold of him.
Michelle and Ashley had made their way back to their shared class, Algebra II, and decided it would be best if Ashley tried to explain to her what had just happened. Ashley moved closer to the loli girl in the secluded corner of the room, where the only light source was a single slant of light from the windows on their left.
"So... Michelle, right?" The girl nodded. "Okie dokie Michelle, I'm Ashley, nice to meet you."
Michelle took Ashley's offered hand with a smile, but then moved on to the subject she wanted to talk about.
"Ashley..." she paused, "What was that?"
Ashley grimaced. She knew she was going to sound crazy, but she had to talk to her about it anyway. "Michelle... do you know what orbs are?"
"No, not particularly. Should I?"
"Well, you're going to have to know now," Ashley gave her a sad smile, and showed her the now heavier, green orb, hidden from the rest of the class's view, "because this is an orb."
Michelle's mouth opened to say something, then shut.
"Orbs are basically the pure, raw, and concentrated energy that is from the world around us, and is then channeled through the orb's glass as controllable energy." Ashley put the orb in the sunlight from the windows, and let Michelle watch the glass of the orb move in the reflection of light on the desk. Michelle's interest was undeniable.
"How many are there of these..." Michelle hesitated to use her new vocabulary. "...orbs?"
"Exactly 73," Ashley answered. "Including this one."
"Wow... does it have a name?"
"Yeah, I think this one is called the, "Orb of Judgement,"" Ashley made a face. "And apparently I'm its keeper, as you are the new keeper of the Orb of Fog.
"I don't know what you saw when my orb accepted you, but I'm pretty sure that's what you have been granted."
"The... Orb of Fog?"
"Yeah. Weird I know, but it's an orb."
"... does it control illusions?"
"I'm pretty sure. I mean, every ghost story has fog in it, right? It messes up vision, so I guess so. Say, Michelle, do you like illusions?"
Michelle stopped her trail of thought for the question. "Illusions?" Ashley confirmed with a nod. "Well, not to say I enjoy them, but I do like tricking people." She grinned mischievously.
Ashley chuckled. "I see. Well, you're going to be tricking people for quite a while from this day forward."
The shorter girl cocked her head to the side. "Hm? Why is that?"
"Because you've been chosen by the Orb of Judgement to join me on a journey to save my mother."
"... so you're saying that this..." Michelle hesitated again with the new acronym, ""OCA" group are bad people, and the, "OS" are the good, right?"
"Correct," Ashley said, as the pair walked down the hall towards their next class, Chemistry. "And my mother was the president of the OS."
Michelle nodded once more. "You're... very calm for having lost your mother. How is your father doing?"
Ashley smiled grimly. "I don't have one."
Eyes widened, Michelle apologized, "I'm so sorry."
"Eh, it's fine. I'm used to it," Ashley laughed, "But my mother raised me to be a strong girl, so I can take a hit. Besides I had Vladdi -the guy I mentioned eariler- and I still do. If it weren't for him, I'd be a wreck right now!"
"I see," Michelle said, thinking. "So... how many more people do you have to find?"
"Just one more."
"In three hours?"
Ashley sighed. "Yeah, I know, it looks easy. Vladdi told me they would come to me, and so far," a smile formed on Ashley's creamy tan skin, "they have."
Michelle smiled as well, and said, "So the other is Rafael?"
"Yup," Ashley said, then whispered very quietly, "He has the Orb of Fire."
Michelle looked at her, and agreed. The bell rang when the two sat down in their seats, Rafael close by.
The three looked at each other, and Ashley gave each a single nod of the head. Michelle smiled in return, a pale hand covering her lips, and Rafael looked away, a smirk forming on the other side.
