"Sometimes words aren't the only things that lie to your face."
"Hey, did you hear-"
"SH!" The librarian shushed, guaranteeing a bit of attitude from the gossiping girl. She gave the older woman a face behind her back before continuing to talk.
Michelle sighed. She had seen that scene so many flipping times, it lost its spark.
But Michelle switched her line of vision from the girls, to her scroll:
"... the Orb of Mist and Orb of Fog often get mixed up, and the reason is probably because both have to do with illusion, but the Orb of Mist also gives the keeper a small control over water. Reversely, the Orb of Fog gives the keeper small control over the air around them..."
Michelle skimmed some more to what seemed like a section about healing. The entry was written about twenty-five years ago. "... by leading the water throughout the circulatory system, you can cleanse the body of any toxins if toxin has not spread to any absorbing organ..."
Michelle smiled, absorbing herself in the history and times of the scroll.
Rafael though, unlike Michelle, was actually laughing while reading his scroll.
"Seriously. Don't try to burn off hair. It doesn't work. Half your eyebrows get burnt off! So not fair."
Rafael was laughing the entire time. But then there were some entries that really interest him.
"...the ability to obtain magma from the center the Earth..."
Daaaang.
"...and though the Orb of Judgement does not work on the innocent, it does work on evil. The orb has it's own opinion on good and bad, so do be careful. Though it acquires a little bit of energy from the good people of the world to function, and its really powerful attacks take time to charge, the Orb of Judgement can alternate types easily and quickly..."
Ashley was actually amazed. Such a tiny glass sphere could actually change types, which is supposedly impossible, with the exceptions of the Orb of Punishment, the Orb of Judgement, and about two more of course.
As Ashley read, she couldn't help but tap her foot to the beat of a bass she heard outside.
"And sometimes getting up each morning, Seems like a waste of time and air. But the sunlight will clear over that horizon, And let you know that life is never fair, But not to care.
So I want you to tear your sad eyes from the horizon, And actually look me in the eye for once. So please don't cry. Please don't cry. Please don't cry."
Ashley found herself humming along to the beat of the song, tapping her foot. Rafael got irritated though, and whispered harshly, "Hey, Ashley! Would you be quiet, I'm trying to read!"
"Shut up, Rafael. I'm just humming!"
"So? It's distracting! Stupid emo music..."
Ashley gasped. "Excuse me? That is NOT emo music! It's too beautiful-"
"Sh!" Ashley and Rafael snapped their heads towards the steaming librarian, and both glared at one another for getting each other in trouble. The twosome then heard the librarian go outside into the courtyard, where Ashley saw the source of the music.
"Ms. Katsumata, I hate to disrupt your song, but you're distracting the classes inside! I'm afraid you're going to have to stop."
The Asian girl looked at the teacher lazily, and removed her headphones. "Oh, sorry. Thanks for letting me play anyway. I'll go inside."
The librarian nodded, and headed back. The girl gathered her stuff (notebooks, pencils, and what seemed to be a sketchbook), and came inside quietly. She made herself at home a seat over from Ashley and slipped the head phones back over her head.
Then, all at once, the right side of Ashley's body tilted over dramatically, causing her to land on the ground, her head hitting the chair next to Ms. Katsumata. It didn't kill the girl, but it surely hurt like hell!
"Ow!" Ashley rubbed her head. "My head..."
"Oh my gosh, Ashley!" Michelle got up, but instead of a gloved hand, a bracelet-clad hand appeared in front of Ashley's face.
"Hey," she looked up to see glass-covered brown eyes, "you okay?"
The brunette took the offered hand, and stood, feeling a bit dizzy. "Yeah, I'm fine. Thanks."
"No prob," Ms. Katsumata said, before sitting back down.
Ashley sat down too, and covertly took out the Orb of Judgement.
Michelle, to her left, leaned in. "You all right? You took quite the fall."
"I'm fine, it's just my orb suddenly got heavy!"
"What happened to it?"
Ashley glanced at it, and exclaimed softly, "It's gold!"
"What?" Rafael said from across the table. "Gold? Who's the last keeper?"
Ashley turned her head, and pointed. "Her."
The black-haired girl noticed the finger, and pointed to herself as well. "Wha...?"
Kylee tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. She tossed the scroll in the air before catching it.
"You're telling me I'm an orb keeper?" she asked, opening the scroll, and skimming some of the lines.
"Yeah," Ashley said, "but you already know about the OCA and OS, huh?"
"Yeah, I know," Kylee yawned, "The Orb of Plants," she then read from the scroll. Shrugging, Kylee began reading without a word, apparently taking in the new world with ease. The small sound of music came from the headphones loosely hung around her neck.
"She's just as weird as this Gothic chick," Rafael whispered. Ashley rolled her eyes.
Just like how you're annoying.
