"For some, it takes time. For others, it takes another."
Vladimir glanced at Kylee for the first time since she he had introduced herself. And like the others, he gave her a good look, and said, "So that's why you were chosen to protect Ms. Ashley."
But Kylee responded with a, "I know."
Vladimir raised a brow at the girl. The wind blew, caressing the five softly. The cold nipped at their ankles, and Michelle shivered, being clad only in a dress and stockings.
"And may I ask how?"
Kylee shrugged. "You can say the plants told me."
His eyes widened, wrinkles stretching. "The plants... told you? Even without being granted the orb?"
Kyle shrugged again. "Even without an orb, you can listen to plants. You just have to listen... or that's what my Granny told me."
Vladimir's eyes returned to normal with a smile followed by a look of uncertainy. Ashley didn't understand the conversation the two were having with their eyes. The girl's eyes seemed neutral, and Vladimir was frowning. But in the end, it seemed like Vladimir lost to Kylee's stare.
"You great-grandmother is a... wise woman."
The Asian nodded, and said, "Of course. She was the Keeper of the Orb of Voice before... you know. The OCA and all."
Ashley gave Kylee an distrusting glance. Despite the laid back mask, it seemed Kylee knew more than what she let on. Michelle also seemed to sense this, and she looked at Ashley with eyes saying, "I don't trust her."
And Ashley's eyes shot right back, "Me neither."
Ashley zipped her fleece jacket up in an attempt to keep warm. Rafael shoved his hands in his pockets, making the chain hooked onto his wallet and pants jingle. Michelle tilted her umbrella towards the direction the wind was coming from to protect her from the breeze. Kylee rolled her green plaid flannel shirt's sleeves down. And as Vladimir continued to look them over, he said in a cryptic way:
"So this is how it started."
The teens sat in silence in the back of the limo. Ashley squirmed; she wasn't used to a limo ride, especially since it was her mother's limo. She didn't even know she HAD a limo. Then again, she didn't know she was the daughter of one of the most powerful women in America. Then again, her mother never told her.
Vladimir was driving the three towards the apartment section of the city, where Ashley and her mother lived. And if your wondering, no, it wasn't a huge penthouse or anything, just a normal apartment anyone could come in and rent. Not one of the richest women and her only daughter in America would rent. Oh, no. Sure, the place was nice enough, and Ashley honestly didn't mind until Vladimir had told her how much more she could have had if her mother didn't save every penny made by the OS.
Sighing, Ashley looked at the three joining her. She counted them off in her head:
Rafael: ex-boyfriend, and the wielder of the Orb of Fire. The Orb of Fire is hard to wield, and is VERY picky on who holds it. It burns intensely at the wrong people, and acts like a cute puppy around the people it likes. It can control the rays of the sun a little bit, as well the core of the Earth. Though it doesn't have many attacks, it is very strong, and strengthens easily. The main animal is the Komodo Dragon, and the Tiger Rattlesnake.
It definitely didn't like me.
Michelle: shy, a bit creepy, short, and it seems like she and Ashley were on the road to becoming best friends. The keeper of the Orb of Mist. The orb works with illusion and deals with a bit of water. Dew water can heal her. Bullets can be made by particles in the air. It can heal, major wounds can take up to nine hours though. Her main animal is the Poison Dart frog and the kind Whale shark.
And lastly, Kylee: laid back, sly, and a bit indirect. She's nice, but it seems like this, "granny," of hers was also an orb wielder. She brings forth the Orb of Plants; an orb that can control vegetation. She can talk, and heal plants, as well use them to heal herself, but not others. She can also become a tree, and blend in with one. Her main animals are the Leaf Deer and the Queen Alexandra Birdwing butterfly.
Ashley then thought about herself: the keeper of the Orb of Judgement. There wasn't too much on her orb, since it's apparently the most picky of it's keeper amongst the orbs, and there have been only seventeen holders, excluding her. And they all died before turning twenty-one.
Ashley gulped. And even worse, her main animals, or the animal that would most likely come to you in your time of need, are the African Lion and the mosquito. Both deadly, and kill more humans than Ashley would really like. And honestly, the signs were beginning to scare her.
Why the hell did her mother, the president of OS, have one of the most picky and death-causing orbs out of all 73?
"We're here, Ms. Ashley. Come, come inside you four. We have a lot to talk about." Vladimir held open the door of the limo.
Ashley came out last, before Rafael said, "Ashley, didn't you live in an apartment?"
"Yeah, why-" Ashley stopped her answer when she realized that the building before her was NOT her apartment building, but a very, very tall structure. Covering her eyes from the setting sun's final glare, Ashley whispered, "OS... Orb Syndicate."
