I just made a new saying. |

Of what we think is the present, is actually the past.
Have you ever heard of the saying “Of what we think is the present, is actually the past”? Do know what it means? I’ve asked a few people what it means, but they’ve all got it wrong. All of them pretty much said “Today is tomorrow’s yesterday”. Then I said to them to think of when people say that they live in the past. I also told them that they have to think beyond their answer and to think logically. I’ll explain it to you so you understand it. Have you ever zoned out and didn’t know what was happening around you? Well, I have. Just today my dad was driving the car, I was in the passenger’s seat, my brother was sitting in the seat behind the driver’s seat, and my sister was sitting in the seat behind me. We were on our way to drop my sister off at her apartment after she spent the night at our house. The radio was on and my brother and sister were talking. My dad was concentrated on the road. Well, that’s when I zoned out and could only hear the music. I looked around out the window and was watching everything fly by as we drove by it. Usually people think you’d have to stare at something that wasn’t moving just to zone out. But, actually, it doesn’t really matter. Sometimes you can just make yourself zone out. But not me. I have to accidently zone out. Anyways, as the objects were flying past the car as my dad continued to drive, my mind started to play out a movie from the past. This wasn’t a movie anybody ever saw and they will never see. The movie was about what has happened in my life the past few weeks or years. My eyes continued to move as the movie continued to play. The thoughts were so real. It were as if they were happening right then. The thoughts kept rewinding and playing over and over again. Sometimes this happens to other people. Other times, people thought about one thing then went to a totally different thing. But with me, I kept thinking about the same thing. The thought was a thought that was bothering me. But, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. About five to six minutes later, my movie broke. I started to hear my surroundings again. I heard my sister laughing. I also heard the music from the radio. I tried to zone back out and think about what I just was thinking about. But, I couldn’t. I started to think that the thought was like it was happening then. But it wasn’t. So, I made up the saying “Of what we think is the present, is actually the past.” That means that my thoughts were so real, I thought it was happening right then. But when I wasn’t zoned anymore, I remembered that it was just what happened in the past. For example, say a person was thinking of what happened to them many years, weeks, or even days ago. Lets say that the person’s thought was about a baseball game they went to when they were a little kid. Then that person got zoned out. That person would then think that they were at the baseball game again. They’d see it as if it were right there in front of them again. But then a noise around the person makes it so they aren’t zoned out anymore. That person would then realize that the thought that was so real and was like it was happening right then was actually from the past. Well, have you ever had something like this happen to you? Have you ever zoned out and thought of something from the past? Have you ever zoned out and had something happen which would fit into the lines of the saying “Of what we think is the present, is actually the past”? Ask all the people you know if they know what the saying “Of what we think is the present, is actually the past” means. If they answer “Today is tomorrow’s yesterday” then they are wrong. Then give them the hint which was “Think of when people say that they live in the past”. Then if they don’t get it, just explain it to them. Now, do you really understand the meaning of the saying I made which was “Of what we think is the present, is actually the past”?
