To be mature because on one's age is immature in itself. To be mature is in indeed a trait of personality, but, more importantly, it is a decision; and to base that decision simply because of an independent attribute such as age merely displays the immaturity of the person for he clearly could not make the decision based on other things.
The desire for respect, to not be treated like a child, to simply be thought of as 'mature.'
The previous reasons were all valid reasons for being mature. Maturity is subjective, and the reasons for being maturity should be based on desires rather than a societal norm.
