Story:
Rescue Me
Chapter 1

~Annie's pov~

For any "normal" person, the first day of high school was the most important day of the entire school. What you wore, how you acted, and who you hung with defined you for the next four years. The preps had to look just perfect. The jocks had to play it cool and flirt with the preps. The nerds had to pretend to be searching for the computer lab (when really they were just avoiding the jocks). Everything was so rehearsed, so fake.
As for me, i didn't need to worry about what i looked like. I threw on a pair of baggy jeans and a black tank top, brushing through my short, choppy hair. The electric blue streaks were already fading even though i put them in three days ago. I didn't care much about how i acted, either. It's not like i cared what others thought about me. I put on my "who-gives-a-hell" look and walked to my bus stop at a steady pace.
Friends didn't matter to me, either. My only two friends, Alaric and Nicolae went to Northwestern Academy (Lucky guys). But here, my grades mattered. Music mattered. Telling people to shove it when they snicker at me mattered. But i couldn't care less about first impressions.

~Benji's pov~

BEEEEEP!
i rolled over on my side and smacked the stupid football alarm clock to the floor. It took me a second to remember why i set it so early. I flung my muscular yet somehow frail frame off the bed. Too fast. I managed to land on Nicky's toy dinosaur, Squeeker.
"Benjamin, today's the big day! Football try-outs!" My father yelled energetically from the hallway. i jumped up and pulled a random pair of jeans off the cluttered floor, pulling them on along with a random shirt. i tossled my hair a bit before deciding that i looked like the idea jock.
"Who's going to make the Northwestern High Schools varsity football team?" My father asked when i stepped downstairs for breakfast and handed my little brother his dinosaur.
"I am." I said in a shaky tone. He looked unsatisfied and i knew what was coming.
"I said, WHO'S GONNA MAKE THE VARSITY TEAM?!?!"
"I AM!" i yelled, fully pumped and suddenly sure of myself. He smiled and patted my back.
"You sure are, kid. Now go catch the bus." I ran outside in time to get to my srop before the bus pulled away. Craig and Daniel were waiting for me in the back with a bunch of hulking, intimidating seniors. The guys didn't seem nervous around them at all, so why did i? Why won't you just admit that you aren't like them?" Rob glared at me under the bleachers. "because i'm not!" "Yeah right, like i haven't heard that before."
I'm just like every other jock in this school, i told myself over and over again. Rob was wrong. Stupid Rob, thinking he knew everything about my life.
"Hey dude, check out Annie Lovett!" Criag nodged me to the direction he was staring. Annie was walking up the steps in baggy skater jeans and a punk tank top. At first glimpse, she was beautiful. Short black hair with blue tips brought out the blue in her eyes and she had a faint natural blush on her porcelin colored cheeks. Her body was, well, better than any preps at my middle school. Of course, she came from the other middle school.
"Is she single?" i asked and the guys starting cracking up.
"Sorry, she isn't into hotdog." Daniel said while Craig snickered.
"You mean, she's-"
"She's a total dike, dude! And i suggest you stay away from her, unless you want your reputation to be trampled." He said. I couldn't stop myself from staring. I've never met a lesbian before, or anyone remotely close. A huge part of me wanted to sit with her and get to know her. Maybe she would understand-
"Dude, stop!" Daniel whispered urgently. Too late. She glanced up as she took a seat only three in front of me and our eyes met. Soemthing in hers made me scared to keep looking. She seemed so guarded and tough.
The bus pulled up at the school and i gasped. It was too big, like a gapping whole into another universe just waiting to swallow me whole. The guys were saying things like 'cool' and 'the football field must be huge'. Why am i so scared. I wonder if Annie is scared, too. Afterall, she's about to enter a completely homophobic school. I had to stop myself from getting back on the bus and going home.
