Peter on the Sea
You know what one of my favorite scenes in the gospels is? It's after the whole story is over. He died and came back. And a bunch of the disciples are hanging out, seven of them. They're all good friends now, after spending so much time together. But they've got nothing to do anymore. So Peter says to the bunch of them, "Well, I'm gonna go fishin'. You know, that career I used to have... " And all the other guys who were with him were like, "Yeah, we'll go with you. Since we all have nothing to do, and half of us were fishermen too anyway..."

So they go out to sea in a boat to fish, at nighttime. That's when fishermen caught fish, so that they could be sold in the market that next morning as fresh. And they are there all night without catching anything, and they are all pretty bummed about it. Because it was their career, and now, apparently, they suck at it. Boy, they would've been pissed; but, well, after spending all that time with Jesus, they're not pissed about stuff... they're just pretty down, and quiet that night.

And the night is pretty much over now, and they're all thinking about old Jesus, though none of them are saying anything. They haven't really seen him much often at all, since the resurrection. Who knows what he's doing these days! And I imagine they are just depressed that night, from not catching anything; from not knowing what their God expects them to do anymore.

So the night is pretty much over. And there's a man on the shore, too far away for them to see who it is, and he's like, "Hey, you don't have any fish, do you?" and they're like, "No..." And the man says, "Cast the net on the other side of the boat, the right hand side, and you'll find some."

Well, a couple of years ago, Peter would have thought that was such bull. He would've wanted to say, "Come on man, we're pros, and we've been here all night; what do you know?" But you know, after being with Jesus all that time, well he's just kind of sad now, and he doesn't say anything; he just does it. And then, so much fish jump into the net that they can't haul it in.

And John; the sun is just rising over the mountains behind the shore; and as the fish are all jumping into the net, John just smiles, and says to his friend Peter, "It is the Lord."
