1337 - Translates to "leet." Leetspeak is a cyberlanguage in which letters are substituted for various numbers and symbols, and occasional inncorrect capitalization. Because it is difficult to read for most people, it is considered rude and annoying, and is generally associated with n00bs.
Admin - Short for "administrator."
Administrator- The person or people who run a site.
AFK - "Away From Keyboard"
Arena - There are presently 3 arenas on GaiaOnline: Art, Avatar, and Home. Members can compete in the arenas by showing off what they have, so that other members will rate what they have done.
Auto-block - A form of godmodding where the character concerned is somehow able to block every hit, usually without explaination, however improbable/impossible such an act may be. (Example: *blocks your firewall*)
Auto-dodge - Like autoblocking, a form of godmodding where the character concerned is somehow able to dodge every blow, usually without explaination, however improbable/impossible such an act may be. (Example: *dodges the flood*)
Auto-hit - A form of godmodding where the character being victimized is given no chance to avoid an attack. (Example: *runs up and punches you*)
Auto-kill - Like autohitting, a form of godmodding where the character being victimized has no chance to avoid an attack, which results in their death. (Example: *runs up and chops your head off*) Though autohitting is often forgivable, autokilling is considered a serious offence.
Avatar - An image that represents a person. On GaiaOnline, the little person you dress up and who appears by every post you make is your avatar.
Avi - Also "avie" "avvie" "avy." Shortened version of "avatar."
BBCode - A coding language often used by forums, characterized by brackets ( [start code] and [/end code] ).
BBL - "Be Back Later"
Binary - A language consisting of 1's and 0's, generally used by computer systems.
Bot - A program used for cheating. Most sites (including GaiaOnline) consider them "illegal."
Botting - Using a bot.
BRB - "Be Right Back"
Chain letter - Also "chain mail." Any PM or email that instructs you to send it on for any reason. Chain letters are considered as SPAM, and are not allowed on GaiaOnline.
Chatspeak - A way of speaking commonly used in chatrooms and other realtime communications, it uses various acromyns and shorted words such as "brb," "u," and "l8r." Use of chatspeak on GaiaOnline is generally looked down on because and considered annoying because it can be difficult to read. Also called texttalk.
Code - Any of a variety of computer languages used to create appearances on websites, such as HTML, BBCode/PHP, and CSS.
Cyber - Often refers to "cybersex." Cybersex and the promotion of cybersex is not allowed anywhere in the forums, or in GaiaTowns.
Cybersex - Typing sexual acts with another person online. Cybersex and the promotion of cybersex is not allowed anywhere in the forums, or in GaiaTowns.
Cyberspace - Anything online is in cyberspace.
Event - On GaiaOnline, special times when all members have a chance to participate in the storyline to an extent. Lately, events seem to be getting even more interactive.
FTL - "For The Loss"

DM - "Dungeon Master" The person who decides what player's characters will experience. This term is most used by those who play Dungeons & Dragons.
Forum - A collection seperate coversations that are supposed to have a broad common topic. Unlike chatrooms, forums are not quite real time; anything already posted when the forum is accessed can be seen, unless manually deleted. GaiaOnline is mainly forum-based.
Gary-Lou - A "perfect" male character. Some forms are counted as godmodding, others are only particularly un-original.
GM - "Game Master" The person who decides what player's characters will experience.
Godmod - In roleplay, having an invincible character, autohitting, autoblocking, autokilling, autododging, or controlling another person's character in any way. Godmodding is only acceptable if you and everyone involved have a previous agreement about it.
GTFO - "Get The F*** Out"
Hacker - A person who "hacks" (accesses without authorization) into a system or account. Hacking is a serious offence that can have legal consequences.

HTML - "Hyper Text Markup Language" One of the most commonly used coding language on the internet, is is characterized by the <> symbols. Most of Gaia does not allow the use of HTML.
IC "In Character" This means that a person is role playing.
Illit - A shortened form of "illitarate."
Illitarate - Normally, this means that a person cannot read and write/type. On Gaia, it generally refers to people who do not type clearly, and who make particularly short and uninformative posts in role play. This term of usually associated with n00bs.
J/K - "Just Kidding"

Manga - The art form associated with anime, and the term for comics done in this form. GaiaOnline has its own ongoing Manga that reveals parts of the storyline involving the site NPCs.

MMORPG - Often shortened to MMO; stands for "Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game." MMOs are games played online along with numerous other people and can be either text- or graphics-based (though the text-based ones are usually called MUDs or MOOs). Examples of MMOs include World of Warcraft, Runescape, and GaiaOnline's own zOMG!
Mod - Short for "moderator."
Moderator - Moderators are the people in charge of the forums, and are the people to contact for many problems involving GaiaOnline.
n00b - An idiot or rude person, also often used for those who do not type clearly. This has nothing to do with how new or old a person is. Zeros are not always used. Sometimes also called a "nub."
n00blet - Another form of "n00b," most often used by those known for skill in roleplay and/or literacy. Zeros are not always used.
Newb - A shortened form of "newbie" that is not to be mistaken with "n00b."
Newbie - A petname for someone who is new.
Newblet - Another petname for a newbie.
Newfag - A derogatory name for a new person, sometimes associated with n00bs.
NPC - "Non-Player Character" These are characters that are not controlled by a player, but by a system or a DM/GM. On GaiaOnline, NPCs have [NPC] in front on their names in the forums, and include characters such as Gambino, Rina, Edmund, Jack, etc.
OMFG - "Oh My F***ing God"
OMG - "Oh My God"
OOC - "Out Of Character" This means that a person is not role playing, but is speaking as themselves - a person in front of a computer screen.
PC - 1. "Personal Computer" Refers to the computer a person uses. 2. "Player Character" A role play term refering to a person's own character.
PHP - - A coding language often used by forums, characterized by brackets ( [start code] and [/end code] ).
Pixels - All the little dots that make up text and images on a computer.
PM "Private Message" This refers to the special mail systems used by most forum-based sites, including GaiaOnline.
Porn - Any image depicting a sexual act or crude nudity. Porn is not allowed on GaiaOnline (that includes avatars with a nudity glitch - fix them!).
Power-play - A form of godmodding where a person's character is exessively powerful and invincible. To avoid this, be sure to check the limits in an RP before joining.
pr0n - Another term for porn, sometimes for that which is more crude than usual. Porn is not allowed on GaiaOnline (that includes avatars with a nudity glitch - fix them!).
ROFL - "Rolling On Floor Laughing"

Role play - Acting out another real or imaginary person in another real or imaginary place
RP - "Role Play" or "Role Playing" (also RPing)
RPC - "Role Playing Character" Usually applies to a person's own character.
RPG - "Role Playing Game"
Semi-lit - A shortened form of "semi-literate."
Semi-literate - Usually used in role play, it refers to people who can generally type quite clearly, but who usually make posts that average 1-5 lines. Use of an action denotation such as astrisks (*) in role play rather than typing in story fashion is also often considered semi-literate.
SPAM - Useless posts/messages that serve no other purpose than to annoy and/or take up space. Spamming is only allowed in the Chatterbox on Gaia.
Storyline - On GaiaOnline, the site-wide story that is constantly evolving. It is mainly enacted by NPCs, and is highlighted by the manga, news, and special events. On a smaller scale, various members have their own storylines for role play.

Typo - A small mistake in typing that results from unintentionally hitting a wrong key, switching keys, forgetting a key, or adding a key. (Note: Pay attention, typos can be very bad! For example, forget one letter and "public relations expert" becomes "pubic relations expert." wink
