“The Chiang-shih or hopping corpse”
In popular Chinese mythology, Chiang-shih(or kiang-shi, but also known as jiangshi), sometimes called hopping corpse or Chinese vampires by westerners, are reanimated corpses that hop around, killing living creatures to absorb life essence (qi) from their victims.
The Chiang-shih was not made from being bitten or any other form of transformation that is well known in vampire legends. However they are said to be born because their soul fails to leave its body do to some act of death, well violent deaths like suicides or a brutal murder something that takes a lot of rage to perform. But they may also rise if their body’s burial is postponed, although I understand how they would feel very agitated if my loved ones forgot to bury me. However the Chiang-shih did not rise from the grave but instead they would just start hopping around.
You see the Chiang-shih is not like our run of the mill vampires for they don’t drink blood, instead they would grab onto you and suck the air right out of your lungs. But don’t fret I will tell you where the Chinese got the whole blood drinking thing from okay? Well heres a few hints they talk funny, it usually rains where they are, and you can travel to several countries in one day. Well if you haven’t guessed it yet it was the crazy westerners yep the white people did it, but what can we do about it now.
And this is just a pic someone painted that i liked.
