Everyday is the same, thought Jade, still deep within the drug-like slumber. Except for those damned days that Peony comes around…

Then, a small voice sounded near his left ear.

“Good morning Sunshine, the Earth says hello…!”

A shock of adrenaline rushed through his veins, bolting him upright.

Unfortunately, there was an object in the way of Jade’s head, and there was a sharp pain in his head.

“Owww! That hurts!” came the yell from the other side of his 5 foot wide bedroom.

Jade opens his eyes to the last person he would hope to see at 7:00am of any morning of his cursed life. Emperor Peony.

The air hissed through Jade’s teeth as he touched his injured forehead.

Peony just smiled sheepishly from the far side of the room. “Oh, yea. HAPPY BIRTHDAY JADE! Come on in!” He motioned his hand to the open door.

The people coming in from the door were people Jade had known for about 5 years. Gailardia (also known as Guy to friends), Anise, Luke (now a Duke), Tear (married to Luke now), and the cheagle Meiu. To their misfortune, this was the day they should have stayed away.

Jade was known for his fascination with reduplicating slaughtered bodies, and his temper in the morning. He had one of the worst morning tempers anyone had ever seen. But most of it had been trained out of him when he joined the Malkuth army. Most of it.

The red eyed colonel glared at the guests that entered his door. The glare wasn’t one of his worst, but bad enough that they all hid outside the little hut-like house.

“Awwww… That was your birthday party guests! Party pooper Jady.”

Jade was not amused in the least bit.

“Get out of my house, you a**.”

Peony grabbed his chest in a dramatic gesture. “That hurts, Jady!”

“Does it look like I care?”

“Yes.” Peony flashed a giant smile.

“Get out of my house.” The building rage in his eyes was starting to reach his voice.

“Ok, ok. Sheesh. You really are a party pooper.” Another burning ruby glare.

“Look, I’m leaving.” Peony backed out the front door, afraid to turn his back on Jade and his powerful fonic artes.

When the Emperor had carefully closed the small door, Jade fell back to the comfort of his warm bed and fluffy pillow. A couple more hours will do…

Then the singing began.

Loud, obnoxious singing.

For his birthday. Or to Jade, just an unnecessary day.

As he covered his head with the pillow, he never realized how much he hated crowds singing until this moment. I can zone it out…

The sound of shattering glass pulled the Necromancer out of his sleepy trance. And there were only three windows in his domain.

Mechanically he rose, walking out of the room to the next with absolutely no emotion. Not even to the shout from Peony, “s**t! Run, before he really gets pissed!” He walked to the window that a fairly quiet breeze entered. Below the window, was a little boy, looking around 5 or 6 years old. He had a fair sized rock in his hands, and chest puffed out a little.

To that little boy’s demise, Jade had one of his worst, and best, glares ready.

When he let his eyes beam little red lasers of hatred and anger, the little boy screamed and fled down the street with the rest of the crowd.

As the screaming was continuing, Jade mechanically cleaned the mess, covered the wall, and then cleaned himself up with showering and dressing in “casual clothes”. Just a green cut-off shirt with black under-armor, and tan cut-off, half way up his calves, shorts. With sandals of course, since it was always pretty warm in the city.

The quiet came shortly after that. Jade sighed softly, black circles under his eyes throbbing a little. Rubbing his temples while he shuffled back to his bed, he decided that 3 more hours were necessary to survive today.

Once he woke back up on his own time, the infamous colonel did the necessary task of eating before leaving his small kingdom in the huge city, the famous Grand Chokmah.
