Chapter 4....

The door downstairs opened. His father's shoes clunked on the floor. "Where's he been all this time?" Sah-mule whispered. Foncé bit his lip. "He was at work." His dad couldn't get a job except for being a bar tender. He had tried every brew, every wine, beer and alcohol there was, making him perfect to recommend and serve beer. "What do we do now/" Sah-mule started rummaging through his case. "I don't know. I've never had a friend over." Sah-mule faced Foncé. "Wha!? You? Never had a friend? OVER!?" Was Sah-mule making fun of him again? Lesson learned! Never! Never ever, make friends with people who have a vitriolic sense of humor!

Sah-mule swung his feet at the end of the bed. "So... what are you gonna wear to the prom?" Foncé walked over to his door less closet. "You keep your suit in your closet?" Sah-mule walked over to see, but all he saw was a few pairs of holey jeans, a few short and stained white and gray shirts, and one black shirt; shoved away in the corner of the closet. Foncé pulled out a ladder. "No.. this is where I keep the ladder to get to my suit."

Sah-mule followed Foncé out the door and into the hall. Foncé lined the ladder up underneath the small door on the celling. "It's in the attic?" Sah-mule watched him climb up into the small hole. Sah-mule saw how small Foncé's back was, small and petite straight down to his hips. "I hope I can find one. You coming?" Foncé called. Sah-mule snapped out of his trance. "Yea," He muttered to himself. "I hope I can fit..." Sah-mule climbed up the steps of the ladder and squeezed himself through the small door way. Foncé walked over to a large black wooden chest. It had beautiful detail carved into it and silver heart- shaped lock. Foncé opened the chest- dust flew everywhere. He took out a wedding dress and carefully layed it down. He continued to dig through the clothes. He pulled out an old tuexdo. Sah-mule walked up to it to inspect it. He ripped the bow tie off. "There." Foncé gave him confused look. "What!? No one wears bow ties anymore... nerd."
"I think it should work. Just.. clean it up... a lot." Foncé brushed off the front. They heard glass breaking down below.

Foncé's eyes were wide with fear. He ran to the floor door, kicked the ladder out from underneath it and jumped down. Sah-mule noticed teh ladder was gone and really didn't want to jump. "Dammit..."

Foncé ran to the kitchen, the fridge was tipped over and wine bottles were shattered on the floor. "Hey Funky." Shawn looked at Foncé with that wild look in his eye. "Where's all ma beer, buddy?" He must had been drinking at work. He lunged at Foncé. He turned to run, but Shawn managed to grab his ankle. "C'mon, daddy just wants a beer and a kiss." Foncé broke free and ran up to the hall and the attic door. "Pull me up dammit!!! Pull me up!" He could hear his dad stumbling up behind him. "Don't be like this Funky!" Shawn wasn't far from the sound of his slurred voice. Sah-mule pulled Foncé through the door and closed it.

Everything was silent except for Shawn's slurred curses. His foot steps began to die the other way.
Foncé turned away from Sah-mule to hide his tears, but it didnt' matter. He broke out into quiet sobs. Sah-mule came over and held him. "It's gonna be okay, The bad man's gone."
Normally, Foncé couldn't stand anyone touching him in anyway, but at the moment... he didn't care! It was nice to have someone show that they cared! To have someone's arms wrapped around him and to hear a comforting voice! How he missed that... how the memories.......... burned..

heart heart heart

Foncé woke up the next day laying on a pile of clothes. Sah-mule was sleeping next to him with his arms still wrapped around him. He didn't remember the rest of the night, so he must had fallen asleep before Sah-mule, who must have held him until he fell asleep as well.
His nose was wedged between Foncé's neck and shoulder. Sah-mule was soft and warm.. nothing like the Sah-mule he had met the first day at school.

Foncé slowly slipped from Sah-mule's arms and down to the kitchen. His dad was passed out on the floor in the living room. He grabbed a box of crackers from the cabinet. It was all he could find protable enough to bring up the ladder.

He went back up stairs to grab Sah-mule's bag for him. He picked it up by it's handle and all of it's contents spilt onto the floor. Two things stood out most. A Seventeen magazine and a stuffed cat tumbled from out. It was balc with red patches all over it. One of the eyes were coming out from worn and age. Foncé knew he shouldn't, but he held the kitty. Teh door creaked open. "Why... are you going through my things?" Sah-mule walked over. "I'm not. The case wasn't locked. I was going to bring it to you while I could, sense my dad was.. asleep." Sah-mule looked at the cat.
"Patches."
"The plushie? Wait.. you made fun of my puppy!! Hypocrite!" He tossed the cat to Sah-mule. "Heh, yeah... I can't talk. I made patches a few years ago, I don't know why though. Oh, by the way.. I only read the Seventeen magazines because it's like spieing on the enemy." Foncé picked up the magazine and flipped through the pages. "The enemy?"
"Sorta... some of it's okay."
"Okay... what happens here stays here?"
"Definitely. I goota go before my mom thinks I ran away or got lost because of a hang over." Sah-mule reached into his bag pulling out a silver box. "Here, something of your own." Foncé opened the box and pulled out a knife. He unfolded the blade revealing an 8" stainless steal blade. The handle was black with a skull on it. "Are you sure?"
"Yeah, who knows. You might need it." Sah-mule smiled and winked at Foncé before picking up his bag and walking to the door. Foncé went to show him the door. "Have fun at prom." Sah-mule waved and left.

Foncé went back into the attic to work on the suit, sewing up any holes, cleaning off the dust, shining the slightly large black shoes and ironing the slacks.

For the rest of the day, Foncé worked on the suit until he fell asleep; still holding the needle.

He woke up the next morning realizing he was still in the dusty attic. He opened the box of crackers, taking small bites; careful not to get crumbs on the suit. It was finaly decent; he wanted to add a few changes with some time. He looked at the clock. 6:03 p.m; CRAP!! he was going to be late! Foncé quickly grabbed the suit in one hand and ran to the shower
