A Thousand Petals

Just a story I wrote for an English Assignment. Its pretty bad actually, but oh well.

“I’m sick of you two arguing all the time. You’re only together because of me, and I think that is pathetic. Do you actually think I care? All my life I’ve had to put up with you two fighting all the time. I cant even remember a time when you were both happy, when we were all happy,” Yukiko screamed over the top of her two fighting parents. “Yukiko! What is the matter with you, I work every day, to have enough money for us to eat, to have food, everything. And this is the thanks I get,” her father said to her. “Well you know what. I am leaving, for good. I know my way around and I will have a better life without you two. Just give me some money and I’ll be fine. I’ll stay at a friends place if I have to, but anywhere other than here,” shouted Yukiko, while handing out her hand to her father for money. “Fine, take it,” her father handed her a few notes. Yukiko walked up to the front door and said, “Goodbye, mother, father. Now you can both go your ways and live happy lives,” she said while closing the door and walking down the footpath. She had no idea where she would go. Yukiko thought to herself I could so stay with Kai. Kai was her boyfriend of two and a half months, they both loved each other very much, although lately he wasn’t acting himself. Yukiko let the thought pass on.

Yukiko had been walking for a long time, more than an hour. She could have used transport but as a result of not having a big amount of money, she walked. It had been an extra half an hour when she got to Kai’s house. “Hello?” Yukiko said as she rapped on the door. There was stomping, then the door opened, “Yukiko,” a smile across Kai’s face appeared, “I was just thinking about you,” he said to her. “Kai, can I stay at your place for a bit, I have no where else to go, and I just left home,” Yukiko said to him sympathetically. “Sure,” just wait here for a second,” he said to her. Yukiko knew something was off about him this night, his eyes were blood shot, and there was a bottle in his hand, and the smell of something burning that didn’t smell like cigarette. She thought to herself, maybe I should go. The door suddenly opened but no one was at the door, how strange. Then she saw a figure running towards her, it was Kai, and he was wielding a knife. Yukiko screamed and started to run, she turned around and saw him at her with the knife, Yukiko instinctively threw out her fist and punched him in face, she knocked him out cold and her fell to the ground. She quickly grabbed the knife off of him and stabbed him. Yukiko ran with the knife in her hand, under the shadows of the dimly lit pathways, into a forest nearby. She then threw the knife into a big lake that she came upon while on her frenzied run. Yukiko fell to the ground, she had just killed someone and didn’t feel sad about it at all, “There’s something wrong with me,” she said to herself, “I, I just killed someone,” she then shuddered. There was a cool breeze and it was beginning to get very dark, Yukiko turned and saw a castle, an abandoned one. It was the only thing she could shelter in for the night. She ran to the top of the hill and walked through the castle door, strangely, there were a few lit candles around, but they were nearly burnt out. There was just enough light to see a big, red couch on further into the entry way. She walked up to it, laid down, and fell asleep.

There was light streaming in from the curtained windows, she went to stretch, but there was something restricting her. She opened her eyes and saw, she was in a room, but inside of a cage. It wasn’t huge, but there was enough room for her to move around in. Yukiko started to yell and pull at the bars of the cage, “Someone, help me! Get me out of here. Is there anyone there?” Just then, a man walked into the room, he came right up the cage and said “I’m glad such a pretty girl walked in here. My master will strongly approve of you,” with that he walked out of the room, Yukiko began to shout at the man, “Come back here. Get me out!” The man returned with a much handsomer man, he was wearing an elegant suit, in black, with a purple vest. He had jade coloured eyes and a fair complexion, it made his jet black hair stand out. He turned to the man she originally saw “Damien, you have found exactly what I was looking for.” “Thankyou, Master Frances,” said Damien. Frances leant forward to the cage “Tell me, young one, what is your name?” he said, in a gentle manner. “Why should I tell you, you b*****d!” Yukiko shouted at him. “Ahh, a feisty one we have here. Well would you rather stay in this cage?” he asked her puzzlingly. After she had regained composure she said, “My name is Yukiko. Will you let me out now?” she then asked him. By passing her question Frances said, “What a pretty name, Yukiko, that means snow child. Suit’s a pretty girl. Now moving along to my second question, Why does such a pretty girl like you have blood spilt apon her hands?” he asked her. Yukiko did reply, instead she backed into the far side of her cage. Frances stood up and grabbed a set of keys from his pocket and leant forward to the top of the cage and unlocked it. He offered her his hand, but instead she tried to get as far away from him as possible. “Yukiko, I’d prefer you to come out of the cage unharmed. Look at me, look at my eyes,” Frances said to her. She was hesitant at first, although in the end she looked anyways. His eyes were mesmerising, they went from a jade green to a deep burgundy. Yukiko felt herself become light headed, she then fainted.

When Yukiko had woken up, she was in a completely different room, it had a mysterious aurora to it. As she was getting up, she thought to herself, there’s no one around, its my time to escape. She then stood up and ran towards the door. Just then, the man she had met earlier blocked her path, “Where do you think you’re going, Yukiko?” he asked her. “Trying to get away from here, from you!,” shouted Yukiko. “Well, I suggest, if you want to live, you will not step a foot out of this room, if you wish to live,” he told her with a smirk growing upon his face. Yukiko had given up, so she walked over to a couch that was in the centre of the room and sat down, the man sat next to her. “Yukiko, you didn’t tell me why you have some ones blood on your hands?” he asked her, waiting for her answer. Yukiko decided to tell him why she had blood on her hands, and what had also happened earlier the day before, with her parents. Frances thought to himself, if he should tell her about him being a Vampyir. Maybe I shouldn’t tell her just yet. So instead he told her about his family, where he used to live, and how he got where he is now. Yukiko secretly begun to like him, they shared a lot in common, the same type of parents, leaving home early, living life the same way. “Well, that’s enough of this then, lets get you cleaned up yes?” Frances asked her, while standing up and offering her his hand. Yukiko grabbed her hand and stood up, “Cleaned up?” she asked him. “Yes, I have a bath prepared for you, I’ll show you the way. There is a set of clean clothes on the shelf next to the towel rack, OK?” he asked her while he started to walk towards the bathroom. He opened the door and said, “Off you go, and don’t take to long, I have things for you to do.” And with that, Yukiko walked into the bathroom and closed the door.

Frances was now in the main quarters, on the upper floor, getting things ready for Yukiko. Yukiko was just getting out of the bath, she dried herself and put on her new clothes, a simple designed kimono, but with a very extravagant obi. She tried several times to properly tie the obi but all her attempts failed, so she left the bathroom. Down that hall, Frances was waiting. He heard her open the door and saw her struggling with the obi. “Would you like me to teach you how to tie an obi, Yukiko?” he asked her, slowly walking up to her. “Yes please,” she then blushed and turned around for him. He tied the obi for her, “There you go, now come with me. I will show you what you have to do for me,” he motioned for her to follow him. They walked into the middle of the kitchen. “Yukiko, during your stay here, I would expect for you to do the following things, clean up around the castle, cook food and mostly keep me company. Its nice to have someone other than Damien to talk to. Just then Damien walked in and heard what he said, “So that’s how it is, well, Frances, I would like a drink. Thanks,” he remarked sounding a little agitated. “Damien, get your butt over here and get it yourself. I’m not going to get it for you and neither is Yukiko. Plus, Yukiko and I have to have a little chat. Ok?” he told Damien signalling to the fridge. “Yukiko, come with me,” he said. Damien snorted and walked over to the fridge as Frances and Yukiko were leaving the room and were headed for the balcony. It was sunset and the view from the balcony was, truly magnificent. They both sat down on the bench that faced out towards the lake. Yukiko sighed and said, “Frances, the view is, is PERFECT! You can see the lake from here. It looks truly magnificent.” Frances turned to her, “Yukiko, I’m going to tell you something, and you mustn’t be afraid. You seem like the kind of person that is, understanding. No matter what nature. So will you listen to what I have to say?” Yukiko didn’t know what to say, “Oh, Ok,” was all she could say. “Yukiko, I, I am a Vampyir. Not a Vampire, a Vampyir. We don’t need ‘blood’ to survive. We don’t live forever. Also we’re not affected by sunlight, although we have wings, and are able to fly,” Frances told Yukiko, but he could sense she was affected by what he said. “Ok,” was all Yukiko could muster. “Yukiko, are, are you afraid of me now? Because you must know, I will not hurt you. Ever,” he told her, trying to reassure her at the same time. “I, I’m a little afraid, well not exactly afraid, more so stunned. I wasn’t expecting to hear that. I’ve heard about the Vampyir’s before, in those myth books and novels, but I never knew they actually existed,” she said. “Although to turn one into a Vampyir, you do have to bit the person. I have, another question. Do you enjoy being human. Would you like to be a Vampyir?” with that he quickly stood up, turned his back to her and leaned over the balcony, admiring the view. Yukiko was stunned, she didn’t say anything He asked me if I wanted to become a Vampyir? How am I supposed to answer to this? “I, I will think about it. I have something to say to you to,” she told him, hoping for him to turn around, but he didn’t. Although she could tell he was listening to her. “When I first met you, I thought you were going to well, kill me. But after I’ve gotten to understand you and know more about you. For some strange reason I feel like I could share a million things with you. Frances, I love you.” Yukiko then blushed. “I, I want to be like you Frances,” she stood up and walked over to him. He turned to her, his eyes changed its shade to a deep purple colour, “Yukiko, would you like me to show you the lake. Come with me,” he then turned and walked off of the balcony, Yukiko was walking beside him. Frances noticed that Damien was still at the fridge, choosing what drink he wanted, “Damien! What do you think your doing? Your going to cool the whole house down and freeze. Look, Yukiko and I will be back soon. Were just going down to the Lake ok?,” Frances told Damien. “Fine. Ok, you two don’t be to long,” said Damien, when he finally closed the fridge and decided he wanted a coffee. Frances sighed, Damien was quite absurd most of the time, cracking jokes, being himself, but they had been friends for a long time now. To him, Damien was like his second brother.

Frances and Yukiko were finally at the lake now and it was stunning. “Frances, thankyou, for bringing me here. It looks more beautiful then it did from the balcony, the last light from the sun makes the cherry blossoms look even prettier,” she said. While sitting on a the ground, and looking at the lake. It was the biggest lake in the area and the only one. It was surrounded buy a forest of blossoming cherry blossom trees. The lake had the most crystal clear water you would ever see. “Yukiko, I have to go back to the castle for a little bit. Would it be ok if I left you here for a while. For you to think over everything. Make sure you have a clear mind?” Frances said, breaking the silence. “Yeah, sure. That will be nice. How long will you be though?” Yukiko asked him before he got up. “Only, at the most ten minutes,” he told her while standing up and slowly walking away. He turned and waved to her, she smiled and waved back.

Yukiko sat there for a while, just staring at the lake. Enjoying the rest of the sunlight when she heard crackling of leaves, and then rocks rolling around under feet. She quickly stood up, but it was to dark to see through the trees. “Hello! Is there anyone there? Frances?” she shouted, getting a little scared. She knew now it wasn’t Frances because there was not a shadow running towards her. The person attacked her. She then fell to the ground and hit her head on a rock. She felt dizzy and nearly passed out, but she was dazed. She tried to move her arms, her legs then her mouth. It Didn’t work. Yukiko could see lights and then a door squeaking on its hinges. Just then, she was carried into a room, it was nearly all dark except for the few lamps and candles that were lit, then she felt herself been thrown into, a cage. Soon after she woke up, there was a man at the cage. “Hello. Did you enjoy your trip? Now I see, Frances has been looking after you. Am I correct? Well I’m sure he wont be happy to find that you have gone missing,” with that the man started to laugh, in a slightly demonic tone while walking off and sat on the throne next to the cage.

Frances was walking towards the lake when he noticed Yukiko wasn’t there. “Yukiko, where’d you go?!” he shouted. Frances then smelt something, it wasn’t something that normally lingers around the lake. He walked up to were Yukiko was sitting before he left her, a rock not that far a away had blood on it. It was Yukiko’s. He could also smell something else. Something familiar, he thought to himself and realised. “That b*****d. Azazel! You are going to pay for this. You’re not going to escape from me this easily. We had an agreement!” Frances shouted. Azazel was his brother, and they hated each other deeply. When they were younger they got along with each other like brothers do. But when their parents died, it was time to inherit the fortunes and Frances was assigned the castle and the area around it, whilst Azazel was only given a small portion of the land. Azazel became mad and went away for a long time. He wanted to become stronger and went to another land to learn the dark forces of the earth. Frances said to his brother if he ever entered the land near his castle, he would come after him. And now was the time.

Frances was now in a rage, and he begun to transform. Big, black feathered wings sprouted from behind his shoulder, long sharp talons grew from where his nails were, his teeth became as sharp as a hundred daggers and his eyes went a cruel blood red and then finally two long curled horns adorned the top of his head. Frances screeched and flapped his wings a few times. In a matter of minutes he was carefully landing on the balcony of the castle, where he saw Damien with a shocked face staring at him. “Wha, what happened,” Damien asked him. “Damien I have absolutely no time for chat, get me my weapons. NOW!” he shouted. Damien stood up and ran towards the door, and he wrote a few runes on the wall with his finger and the wall split into two and open themselves like retracting sliding doors. There, was two long daggers, with jewels of all kinds and several ancient runes in scripted along the blades and on the handles. Next to the daggers there was a long whip, with spikes along it. It just over three metres long. “Damien, Ill have the daggers and Daggertail,” Frances shouted at him. Damien quickly grabbed the weapons and ran over to Frances, “Please, be careful master!” Damien said to him. With that Frances grabbed the weapons, nodded to Damien, and flew off. “I will find you Azazel, and when I do, it will be a battle till the end!” he said to himself.

Frances had been flying for over ten minutes when he remembered the burrow! The burrow was their underground chamber, where their families used to go and have dinner once a month. He was now just about the chamber, trying to remember where the door was near the tree but not above search for the dove. Just then a dove flew across where he was standing. The door was close, he knew it. Then he tripped over, he swore to himself and noticed there was a rather large chain. “I’ve found it!” he exclaimed. With that he lifted up the chain with brute force and the door swung outwards, he jumped down and started searching.

Meanwhile, Yukiko was huddle up in a corner of the cage when the man shouted out, “Looks like Frances is here.” Just then Frances was nearing the big hall when he heard talking. He ran into the room, “Azazel! I knew it! You b*****d! We vowed not to enter each others land but you still did. I have no choice, but to kill you!” Frances shouted at his brother. “Hahahaha!” laughed Azazel, “You think you can kill me! Ah brother I do love you, but I will be the one doing the killing.” And with that both of them screeched, Yukiko put her hands over her ears, their screeches were ear piercing. Then all of a sudden the two men lunged at each other, Frances was trying to slice at Azazel, but he could sense a truly dark force emanating from him. Then Azazel for a shot at him, Frances went flying into the wall, sending shrapnel in all directions. “Aha, brother, you have underestimated my strength, but the same goes to you as well!” yelled Azazel while slowly walking towards swords that were hanging on the wall. It gave Frances enough time to get up and regain composure. “Azazel, I loved you, when you were once my brother, but you are not him anymore. Well not at least the one I remember. Goodbye brother,” Frances said to him while pulling out Daggertail. Azazel turned around but his reaction was to late. Frances did a swift movement with his wrist and the whip came in contact with his bothers’ head, it then fell off of his body, sending blood spurting everywhere. Frances fell to the ground, he was bleeding quite a bit, and the only way for him to heal was if he drank humans blood. He turned around and noticed Yukiko was in a cage at the far end of the room, he slowly started to crawl over to her, “Yukiko, help me,” he said to her in a soft voice. “Frances! How, how can I save you!” she shouted at him, and beginning to cry. “I, I need some, some of your blood,” he told her, he finally reached the cage. “Frances, Ok,” and with that Yukiko stuck her arm out of the cage and put it near Frances mouth. He bit her arm, feeling a little dizzy but starting to heal. The big cut across his chest was fading, and in a few seconds later there were no visible signs on his body of trauma. Yukiko had passed out, he knew he had to get her back to the castle. Frances pulled off the padlock securing the cage closed and ripped off the door and grabbed Yukiko, “It will be ok,” he whispered to her.

It was two days later after the whole ordeal, and Yukiko was still asleep. Frances had been laying next to her waiting for her to wake up. Just then Yukiko had begun to wake up, “Frances, are, are you there?” she said softly, still bleary eyed. “Yes. I am here Yukiko!” he said to her. “Wha, what happened?” she asked him. “You, offered me some of you blood to heal me. That means that you’re like me now. A Vampyir,” he told her. “Really, Oh,” she said while sitting up and stretching. “You will transform, very soon,” Frances said to her. Just then Yukiko started to sprout wings from behind her shoulders and her eyes turned a deeper shade of purple. Frances smiled, “Looks like you already have.” Damien rapped on the door a few time and then barged in, “I heard talking. Yukiko! You’ve woken up. And by god, how hot are you!,” he laughed. “Damien, do you alwys have to talk to women like that? Have you any control over yourself!” shouted Frances but he then laughed, They were all laughing together. “Well, I shall be leaving you to, unless you let me join in on the action,” Damien said, a smirk appearing, he then laughed again while doing some obscene gestures. Damien turned around and walked out of the room. “That Damien, always has to ruin the mood doesn’t he?” Frances laughed. “You need to loosen up a little,” Yukiko said, and with that she leant forward and kissed him passionately. Damien came back and opened, the saw the two kissing, “Oh I see, you get a woman and I’m the lonely bystander,” he said, while turning towards the door for a second time. “Damien, you are free to go,” Frances said. “What?” exclaimed Damien. “Your always complaining of never having a girlfriend and wanting to ho out all the time,” said Frances. “Frances, really? I’m truly honoured!” Damien shouted. He ran into the room and hugged both Yukiko and Frances, “You two, enjoy your life And I’ll be gone, Plus I’ll be busy with the ladies so farewell!” he said excitedly, laughed and walked out of the room. “Oh Damien, he was the only other person who was there to keep me company, making jokes all the time. I’ll miss him, he was like a second brother to me,” Frances said, beginning to feel sad now. Damien hadn’t left yet, he was standing out side of the door, listening into what Frances was saying. He came bursting into the room and shouted, “Frances! I’ve changed my mind. May I stay here with you and Yukiko.” A smile appeared on Frances face, then Damien’s. “Of Course!” Frances exclaimed, “But there is one more thing for me to say.” Frances stood up, and looked at Yukiko and said, “Yukiko,” he reached into his pocket pulling out a ring, “Will you marry me?” he asked her. “Yes! I will marry you!” Yukiko shouted, she leant forward and kissed him. “Sheesh, can you two get a room!” said Damien.

They wed the next day. It was a simple wedding, no extravagancies, just Yukiko, Frances and Damien. Frances was already down by the lake preparing for the wedding, while Yukiko was in the upper quarters getting ready. Damien knocked on Yukiko’s room, “Yukiko. May I come in please?” he asked her, “Sure, come in” she said. “I thought to myself, a woman’s kimono would be of no use to me and I figured that you didn’t have much to wear so I decided to give you this. It was my mothers old kimono,” said Damien, at the same time handing Yukiko the kimono. There was also a headpiece, made out of silver with jade over it. “Thankyou, Damien. You are a great friend,” she said and hugged Damien. “Well, hurry up now! Frances is waiting for you down by the Lake,” said Damien, who was carrying a small flute hanging from his neck on a long piece of string. When Yukiko was ready she left her room and headed for the lake, she was accompanied by Damien, “Just to let you know, Yukiko, I am a earth faerie. And I have something installed for both of you!” he told her while walking her down towards the lake.

Yukiko and Frances exchanged their vowels, and just as they went to kiss, Damien interrupted, “You two, before you get all mushy I have something for you. Watch over the lake,” he said to them. Damien flipped the piece of string over his head and grabbed the flute and began playing a tune. Just then there was a big gust of wind and everything looked like it was swirling around. A cloud formed over the lake, and doves came flying out of it. There was another big gust of wind which lifted all of the fallen petals off of the cherry blossom trees and were all floating around above the lake. Then Damien stopped playing the flute and all the petals dropped and landed on the lake. A thousand petals.
