As I'm playing Platinum I began thinking about the next generation of pokemon games and decided to compile my wishlist of some of the features I would like to see introduced, changed or removed. I might post this in the forums later when I reopen my Pokemon Trade Center.
Pokemon Generation 5 Wishlist
- Catch all the legendaries without an event needed or make it so events are available in all countries where Pokemon games are sold (let's be fair Nintendo)
- Take advantage of the Wii and DS's compatibility but never lose the DS's portability and the main port for the game.
- Character customization or the ability to pick from the hero/heroine line up from all generations
- Likewise be able to pick you rival from the line up from all generations
- Pick your starting region and then have the ability to go to the other regions as you complete the leagues
- Be able to select the colour of your pokedex and type of bag. Come on, I'm a girl and I'm sick of pink being forced down my throat
- New transportation for snow (snowshoes or skiis) or at least speed it up
- Faster surfing please!
- Change the pokemon blob you surf on to an actual pokemon
- Bring back the ability for a small pokemon to follow you in the world (like Yellow) not just in the garden
- Be able to play the Hero, Heroine, the Rival, or Team which each follow there own storyline.
- No more insanely weird pokemon like Tangagrowth and Probopass
- A more dynamic weather system or seasons
- Better battle animations
- Faster battle calculation (Diamond/Pearl was way too slow)
- A bank!
- Play the game with your friend, or have friends join you on you journey in the game
- Underground wifi!
- Secret bases in game not just in the underground and the ability to gift plushies
- Completely remove HM's or redesign the system. Maybe make it so there is a special "HM tool kit" or base it on the actual pokemon. Scyther has arm like blades = diced up bush. Machamp the super strong pokemon = moved boulder or crushed rock. Lapras the ferrying pokemon = handy boat. I really despise having to waste a precious move slot for these moves and then having to find the move tutor to delete them later. Why must they be permanent?
- Be able to pick your profession (breeder, coordinator, etc.) and have storylines change depending on that
- More intelligent NPC's. Give them decent teams, decent movesets, and decent AI.
- Also don't give every single Team X members (or other trainers) the same 5 pokemon, and say they're from headquarters or the trainer down the street (a.k.a. ekans, zubat, mightyena, stunky, etc.). They're an evil organization specializing in stealing rare/uncommon pokemon. With 450+ pokemon to pick from Nintendo can get creative and let them at least have a chance at taking over the world.
- Make the pokemon seals more fun to use. Currently they're extremely annoying with the restrictions they put on it. Not being able to box my pokemon because of a little seal is rather silly
- More animations/cut scenes like you see on the title screen of the game to move the story along would be fun.
- Stay away from 3D!!! I like the 2D traditional look the Cube games just never worked for me the characters usually ended up looking weird and awkward. Revolution also inherited that same problem, pretty but not pretty enough
- Make contests more interesting, like they are in the show and more rewarding. It also would be great if items you equip like the blue scarf actually become visible on the pokemon.
- A more balanced level distribution from Gym Leader to Gym Leader to Elite. I find grinding seems to happen a lot more in this game then any of my other rpg's
- A real Pokemon League with a set up like real life tournaments (the battle tree system would be awesome) it also would be cool if this was ingame and wifi so everyone could enjoy it. Just no insane things (like they seem to do) with 100 opponents to battle with only breaks between every 7 battles. Come on we have real lives as well
- Gym Leaders a little more unpredictable. It's too easy to fry the grass and soak the rock. These are supposed to be elite trainers please give them the respect they deserve. It also would be neat if they had similar gym rules like in the show (i.e. 3 on 3 battles, water vs. water, etc.)
Well that's the wishlist so far, I'll probably add more as I think of it and might update it as features get confirmed when a launch date becomes reality.
