Bellatrix went a little red then suddenly a great crash came up from upstairs. Jumping she sprinted down the long hallway and all though she didn't know it Kanda right behind her. She slamed the door that the Finder was sleeping in open. He was sound asleep on the floor. Bellatrix's face had a perma glare on it. She sighed and backed away. Her back hit something soft yet hard. Kanda put his hand on the small of her back, and gently pushed her foward. Bellatrix managed not to blush but she quickly turned around and walked to her room without a word.
Kanda had to find this fragment and his comrade sleeping in wasn't going to help. He walked into the room and woke him up.
They set out a little later than Kanda would have liked. Kanda wasn't in a good mood. They spent all day and half the night looking for the fragment but got nothing. He had started to think that maybe Koumi had misunderstood that there was no Innocence. Usually they would have found it after three damn months but nothing. Kanda went back to the house in a sour mood. Bellatrix was out as usual working her night job. She helped run a small Inn. He knew she wouldn't be home well after dark.
Kanda though he'd try and take a shower. Wash all the stress away. He found the shower and slowly started to relax a little.
Kanda walked out with a white towel rubbing his head. Walking to his room, he saw Bellatrix slumped in the middle of the hallway floor asleep. Kanda toke a good look at her. She was clearly exhausted, and appeared thinner than usual. Dark purple circles under her eyes told him she hadn't had enough sleep or none at all.
Kanda considered leaving her there...no he couldn't do that. He knew how cold it got in the hallways at night, she'd catch a cold.
He slowly picked her up. Her white button down shirt had some buttons missing, and some undone. Her grey skirt was a little tattered and worn. Her blue nails where chipped, her eyeshadow smeared. Her face looked colorless and sunken.
Kanda carried the girl to her room. He set her down on her bed. He looked around the room. Walls were white. Books lay all over the floor mixed in with some clothes. A large wooden dresser had a book lay open. The words appeared hand written. They were western character's he knew that. He didn't know English, but had seen some of the characters before. He slowly walked towards the book. Looking at it closer he saw it was a journal. Some of the letters were Japanese.
He hated going through someone else's things. But he couldn't help himself this time. He started to flip through the pages. One entry dated a few days ago snatched his eye.
I'm not sure how I feel about the boy staying here. I know what I feel for him, but I want him to leave soon so I can erase these feelings. It's painful knowing he'll leave..... The rest of the entry had been splattered by dried tears. Kanda quickly put the journal back, but it fell and layed open on the floor to a certain page.
Dated at least two years ago he read:
My parents death anniversary is today. How they died I'll never forget. I was about 12 when I walked into their bedroom to wake them up. They had died in their sleep. Doctors say it was the medication that they toke the night before to help with their joint pains. I heard a nurse gossiping in the Inn a few years later, that the doctor poisoned the pills to pay them back for a bill they didn't pay. Here the entry ended. Kanda stared at the page and re read it several times.
With a start Bellatrix awoke. Kanda jumped and the journal landed with a soft thud.
